EMS Synthi AKS

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK customer

Came into stock: March 2020.

Servicing Status: Full service by KSR has already been carried out in April 2020, so this Synthi AKS is ready for sale now.

Remarks: A fabulous opportunity to own your EMS Synthi AKS, and very competitively priced!

The current owner has only owned this Synthi AKS for around 10 years, having purchased it in the UK from a non-specialist retailer, and did not have any record of any historical service work.  The Synthi AKS has had minimal use and was stored away for some years, so KSR was commissioned to carry out a full service on the EMS, to get it ready for sale through our Brokering Service.

The serial number is ‘45300KS,’ so Robin Wood at EMS is likely to have a manufacture date on this example, but it looks like a later model.

Cosmetic Appraisal:

This AKS is in good all original (unmodified) condition, and although it shows some wear to the control surface and a small mark (low-D) in the KS blue surface finish, it’s in keeping with an instrument of this age (around 45 years old).  The Spartanite case is in good condition, although has a small burn mark on the front, left of the ‘SYNTHI’ plate. The nickel catches/hinges show a normal patina, and one of the rear-hinges locks okay but doesn’t sit flat, but both lids are perfectly secure.  We have covered the key aspects instrument in the series of photos below, including an internal shot for those that like that kind of thing, so we hope these candidly show the overall prevention of this Synthi AKS.

This is a good condition example of the model/type, perfectly working, but does show some signs of use and it’s age, so it’s no museum/collector’s piece, but the price has been set to reflect that. It’s important to understand that with dealer supplied examples of the Synthi AKS being advertised for between £15K to £18K GBP these days, we know that the sales price for this example represents excellent value.

This EMS Synthi AKS did come from the owner with a couple of very worn Matrix pins, so on our advice, the owner purchased a brand new set from EMS, which are be supplied with the instrument. Also included are a brand new power-chord and cinch-jones interconnect cable.

The service by KSR covered all the critical items like the replacement of old power-regulation caps, deep cleaning and calibration, but In addition to the above, the following work can also be carried out by request. This is a costed option, so is additional to the sales prices listed at the bottom of this page:

*VCO stabilisation modification implemented in line with EMS guidelines = £480 GBP

This Synthi AKS operates on 240V or US 110V (switchable) – it will be sold with a 3-month warranty. Aside from the new set of Matrix Pins included and the new power-cable,  Cinch-Jones Synthi-to-KS cable, we can also supply a copy of the user manual (PDF only).

Sales Price: £13,900 GBP.

Availability: This EMS Synthi AKS is available for sale now.

Synth Miniatures

RL Music, in collaboration with Ronaldo Lopes Teixeira Rolt, are delighted to announce the launch of Vintage Synth Miniatures

Back in 2007, we had an idea to offer high-quilty hand-made scale reproductions of vintage synths, but exhaustive searches to find the right person or business that could help us came to nothing, so we shelved the whole thing but still had the ambition to realise that idea.

Winding forward to late 2019, we finally had some success as we made contact with a massive vintage synth fan who also happens to makes scale models. Talk about the perfect fit!

Ronaldo Lopes Teixeira Rolt, an Illustrator and graphic designer, although now retired, is a Prog Rock lover and vintage synth fan. He’s lives in São Paulo, Brazil, and has been producing artwork and models for many years as a hobby. However, more recently he’s been promoting his ‘vintage synth miniatures’ through attending synth related events in Brazil, so his models and skills have reached a wider audience, but he plans to keep this labour of love as a hobby. Ronaldo was very interested to work with us at RL Music due to the obvious synergy and shared passion for vintage synths, so we offered him a way to channel some business back to him, and satisfy our own need to build our own vintage synth miniatures collection to go with our original instruments in the RL Music Collection.

Ronaldo was invited by Mr Michel Geiss (Jean-Michel Jarre’s partner) to make an exhibition at Synthfest in France last June 2019.

UVI, the well known French Music Software Company, commissioned Ronaldo to produce 53 miniatures (keyboards and drum machines) for them.

Ronaldo, a huge Prog Rock fan, decided to build Rick Wakeman’s rig from 1973…

This second PDF (Ronaldo_the_builder) is a 1.8mb file that has images of Ronaldo himself at some synth events with his collection, and shots from his workshop.

This last PDF (pricing_summary) is the current price list to purchase the models as listed in the gallery PDF above.  It also covers some Q&A you may have, but please call or email Richard if you have any questions if not covered in the document.  This price list will be updated when new models become available. Ronaldo is entirely open to requests to make just about anything vintage keys (drum machines, sequencers etc.) related, so ask Richard at RL Music for a quote to make your favourite instrument if you can’t see it listed.

We hope you are as excited as we are about this launch. These beautifully hand-made replicas are so cool, and you know already that they are instant collectables, and we all know what happens with ‘collectables,’ so get your shopping list together and give Richard a call or email.

Crumar Stratus

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK Client.

Came into stock: Available from RL Music from February 2020.

Servicing Status: A health-check has been carried out by KSR but we will have it fully serviced as a priority once the sale has been completed.

Remarks: This is a rare instrument in 2020, and an unusual Organ/Strings combo that brings something different to the table at a time when the world was dominated by big Prophets, OBs and Jupiter polysynths in the early ’80s.

It’s a CEM based 6 note polyphonic analogue system that employs two DCOs that are then distributed through dived-down ICs.  This architecture would have been used to keep the costs down, so you can see the Stratus was aimed at the consumer market. It sounds really nice, warm and very vintage in character, and is still very affordable today.

As you can see from the pictures below, the cosmetic condition of the panels and faux wood are excellent on this 35-year-old machine, and the Stratus still has its original gig-bag and three overlays. There are some small marks to a couple of the key-tops and minor scuffs here and there, but we think you will agree, it’s a fine example and certainly the best condition Stratus we have ever seen.

We think the Stratus is cool and a low-cost way of reaching into that vintage sound, that early ‘80s electronica vibe, and offers musicians something different socially when the current generation of cheap synths are all sounding the same in a world is full of replicants.

This Stratus is sold through RL Music with a 3-month warranty and can be shipped worldwide. The synth operates on EU 220V via an IEC socket, power-cable supplied (UK plug fitted).

Demos are available by appointment only.

Price: £650 GBP.

Availability: This Crumar Stratus is available for sale now!

Roland MPG80

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK client

Came into stock: Arrived at RL Music in July 2018.

Servicing Status: A full health-check by KSR has already been carried out (July 2019), so this MPG80 is ready for sale & shipping now.

Remarks: Here’s a rare opportunity to grab the dedicated Roland MKS80 Controller, the MPG80. We very rarely see these units up or sale on their own, and if you’re an MKS80 user without one, then it’s a no-brainer!

This MPG80 was purchased by our client many years ago, with the plan to get the full combo to use it with, but they never got around to it, so it’s sat used for a while. We happen to have an MKS80 in stock at the moment, so we were able to give the MPG80 a full test after KSR had given the unit a full deep-clean.

This really good cosmetic condition MPG80 works perfectly and looks like it’s never been racked either. Being a MIDI controller is can also be used to operate any other MIDI device as well, so it’s a really useful device to have around.

As pictured below, the MPG80 is supplied with the interconnect cable required to connect to the MKS synth.

As the instrument is being Brokered through RL Music, it will be sold with a full 3-month warranty and can be shipped worldwide.

Demos are available by appointment only.

Price: £1350 GBP.

Availability: This MPG80 is available for sale now.

Multimoog

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK customer

Came into stock: June 2019.

Service Status: A full service by KSR has already been carried out (June 2019), so this Multimoog is ready for sale now.

Remarks: We are delighted to offer quite a rare machine to find in the UK these days, a Moog Multimoog.

This particular example has been in the ownership, and cared for, by Jessica Lauren (our client), for many years, and has been one of her main ‘go-to’ synths for all her live & studio work. Jessica is a very talented Jazz musician and highly skilled keyboard player. Her Multimoog can be heard on many of HER albums over the years, but she has decided it was time to let the Moog go to a new home.

It’s a brilliant mono-synth that has a sound character all of its own, boasting a punchy 24dB Moog Filter and some complex routing and performance options. In the right hands (like Jessica’s hands), this is a highly capable & versatile synthesizer.

Jessica posted a status update on your Facebook page about letting her faithful Moog go and said we could use it here, as it has some photos that will be of interest, plus it adds some provenance to the instrument – click the link below:

https://www.facebook.com/jlauren001/posts/10157447009261468

This Multimoog has been meticulously maintained over the years by KSR, so we can confirm it’s a perfectly working instrument, and used as an old Moog should be…for making music. It’s fair to say that the Multimoog is not a collector’s piece, but it’s in average cosmetic condition for its age and in pretty good shape. This is an honest machine with a fabulous provenance and will serve the right buyer for many more years to come.

The price for this Multimoog has been set to reflect it’s the condition, but looking at global prices for these models, it represents an absolute bargain, a steal, at the advertised price below, so we don’t think it will be available for long.

This Multimoog is sold through RL Music with a 3-month warranty and operates on EU 220V.

Price: £1,690 GBP.

Availability: This Multimoog is available for sale now.
