YOU WANT A FAT SOUNDING FILTER??
WE'VE GOT IT!
People talk (endlessly) about the "thick" sound of old analog synth filters. So, they are widely copied. NOBODY COPIES OUR FILTER. Because it's ALL VACUUM TUBE. It's THE ONLY TUBE FILTER.
Not only does it sound incredibly thick and massive and POWERFUL, it makes a great complementary filter effect for our brain-destroying TM-1. The TM-2 is also ideal for giving weight and power to drum machines and bass lines in techno music or remixes. Or connect it after our TX-1 AGONIZER......and DESTROY YOUR SOUND.
GUITARISTS: it works as a wah pedal, by plugging in any standard expression pedal. It's the ONLY TUBE WAH. And it will RIP YOUR FACE OFF. As Gino Robair said in his review in ELECTRONIC MUSICIAN: "If it's tube coloration you want, you've come to the right place....Put a distortion box before the TM-2, and you get a wah-wah that screams!" And we think it makes the much-vaunted Crybaby sound thin and weak and shrill!
Our TM-2 consists of two twin-t bandpass filters in parallel. Unlike any other such filter on the market, these filters use vacuum-tube pentodes. NO semiconductors. NO transistors. Thus, NONE of that thin, scratchy, transistory sound.
These two filters have their resonant frequencies spaced 2 octaves apart--one filters the all-important midrange, the other filters bass. They are voltage-control-tuned with a custom-made "Vactrol" type matched-pair dual optocoupler. The resulting sound is GIGANTIC.
Resonance or "sharpness" for the filters is adjustable. The filter outputs pass through an additional pentode which may be used as a VCA for electronic-music effects. (TM-2 may be used purely as a tube VCA by turning down the filter resonance.) Output signal is buffered, so it can drive any line-level input.
Use it as a stand-alone effects box, or mount it in your analog modular synth using our TM-M or TM-D kits. All our TM modules integrate perfectly with other synthesizer modules.
Specifications:
Frequency response less than 10 Hz to greater than 40 kHz.
Distortion from less than 0.1% to greater than 20%, depending on input signal.
Filter sweep range (approx): lower 80-200 Hz, upper 300-1000 Hz.
Filter peaking from Q less than 2 to oscillation.
Voltage gain approx. 5 with RESONANCE set to minimum and INPUT LEVEL set to maximum.
Hum and noise less than 0.5 mV at output.
Power input 10v AC to 12v AC, 50/60 Hz, 0.8 amp max at idle--derived from an appropriate plug-in AC adapter.
Inputs: 1/4" phone jacks for audio input; optional inputs for filter center-frequency CV, and for VCA CV.
Center-frequency CV jack accepts control voltage OR any industry-standard expression pedal with TRS connections (examples: Fatar VP26, Korg EXP2, Kurzweil CC1, Moogerfooger EP-1, Roland EV5, Yamaha FC7, etc.) Output: phone jack, audio, mono, 1k ohm impedance.
All Metasonix TM series modules may be used as standalone effects boxes. Or they may be mounted in 5U-high standard modular synthesizers (MOTM, Synthesizers.com, Moog) using our TM-M kit. Or, they may be mounted in Eurorack-based modular synthesizers (Doepfer, Analogue Systems, Analogue Solutions) using our TM-D kit. Our modules are the only ones in the WORLD capable of this.
