Restoration Status: KSR to service once sold, and prior to shipping to the new owner. This LAMM is in perfect working condition, but the servicing work is standard on all our vintage synths for sale, although it is more akin to a ‘health-check’ on a instrument of this fine condition.

The Memorymoog is an outstanding analogue polysynth that is unique and unrivalled in sheer power and character. Moog did something amazing creating this beautiful instrument, and they pushed the technology of the day to its limits, but then Lintronics developed this amazing upgrade to create arguably the most powerful vintage analogue polysynth ever, and a synthesizer that sits perfectly in a 21st Century production environment.

It’s not very often we get the chance to offer a LAMM for sale but we have been given the opportunity to sell this beautiful machine for our client who is downsizing their collection, and this example has been very well cared for…no expense spared.

Having a Memorymoog in stock alone would be treat enough but these Lintronics versions are highly coveted. The cost of implementing the LAMM upgrade is near the actually supply cost of the donor machine these days, plus factoring in the waiting time to have it done by Rudi means getting hold of these very special versions is almost impossible. We’ve seen demand for LAMM Memorymoogs go though the roof in recent years, what with top music professionals buying them up, and this trend is only ever going to go one way, so this should be viewed as a rare opportunity to own your own.

Information on this Memorymoog LAMM:

The LAMM upgrade on this particular model was carried out Rudi at Lintonics in 2010.
The LAMM was pro-restored within the last 2 months, and when we received it from our client a few weeks ago, it was 100% perfect operationally.
The serial number on this Memorymoog (a ‘Plus’ version originally) is #3019
The Memorymoog was originally a 110V system, but the transformer was modified to run EU 220V back in 2000.

Restoration Status: KSR to service once sold, and prior to shipping to the new owner. This Prophet 5 is in perfect working condition, but the servicing work is standard on all our vintage synths for sale, which includes reconditioning the power-supply etc.

Remarks: We are delighted to offer this very good condition Prophet 5 Rev 3.3 w/MIDI (120 program memories), which comes from a pro-studio in the UK. The synth has had regular use and maintenance – evidenced by the perfect operational condition.

These are unique sounding instruments and don’t be fooled in thinking the Prophet 6 is an alternative…it’s not. There’s a certain punch and warmth that this vintage Curtis chipset based system delivers, and you just have to listen to a-ha, Soft Cell and Genesis etc. to appreciate how influential this synth was to musicians in the 1980s….and still is today.

Did you know that the Prophet 5 can be set up to operate in different temperaments from equal-temperament. The operating system allows you to program microtonal adjustments across the keyboard, and store this in the synth memory locations. This is not something we have tried, but the user manual goes into some depth about how to achieve it.

Kent at KSR actually recently fitted a new back-up battery to this example (and loaded the factory patches), so they have already had some time to inspect the synth up close and personal. Kent commented that this Prophet 5 was in really great shape internally and had clearly been really well maintained throughout its life, including the current owners custodianship.

The operational condition is flawless, although as stated, we will service the synth again prior to handing over to the new owner. As you can see in the high-res pictures below, the overall cosmetic condition (wood cabinet, front-panel, modulation panel & rear-panel) is excellent for a 33+ year old instrument, with only minor wear from use.

Remarks: We are delighted to offer this very good condition example Yamaha CS50, which is supplied with its original legs, and has a Kenton MIDI retrofit kit fitted.

The Yamaha CS series polysynths have a beautifully characterful and distinctive sound that we have not ever heard reproduced or replicated in any other vintage synth. The CS50 has essentially the same panel layout and sound engine of that of the CS60 and CS80, including aftertouch (mono). In the right hands, and with some good reverb, this synth can be coaxed to produce some beautiful timbres whilst having a bright and very playful character, and is a wonderful instrument & a superb stepping stone to it’s more powerful siblings – the CS60 and the mighty CS80.

The CS50 has already has a full ‘health-check’ by KSR, so we know the synth to be 100% fully working, but it will have a full service post-sale (see below). The cosmetic condition of the front-panel is excellent, and tolex covering in good shape also. The only item of note is that the power-cable compartment cover has lost its original retaining catch, so there is a non-original clasp fitted to stop the cover opening (see pictures once supplied).

The CS50 is currently with us in Reading, and available to demo. We can ship this world-wide, so please ask us for a packing & shipping quote, or you are welcome to collect in it person.

This CS80 is currently located at our restoration partners – KSR in Surrey, UK.

The CS80 is in original condition, so had not had any modifications fitted (no MIDI).  We purchased this from our UK customer, who owned the CS80 since the early 1980s when it was used by them in productions under British pop band name ‘Swing Out Sister,’ although it had been stored unused for about 20 years until this year. Cosmetically it is in overall good condition but does show signs of wear & tear to the control surfaces and tolex, but a full cosmetic restoration is available if a pristine finish is required (see upgrade options below).  To keep the CS80 competitively priced, we are selling this as-is in terms of cosmetic presentation, but KSR have already carried out a full operational restoration on this CS80 to ensure it’s sold 100% perfectly working and fully guaranteed.

The CS80 has already been fully operationally restored (Level 1) by KSR, which is normally a costed service at £3K GBP alone, so the following work has been implemented:

The restoration comprises (not limited to) the total replacement of all the old CMOS Logic IC’s, all of the dual op-amps, voice card, and power supply capacitors & transistors. In addition to this the TKC circuit board, which controls the polyphonic after touch of the CS80, is fitted with a set of bypass/decoupling capacitors for each IC to greatly reduce the chance of failure of the touch response circuit. To cap this off, a full calibration is then performed (voltages to within within 3 decimal places). The actual list of work is huge, and changes out several hundred components,  and includes a 14 day burn-in test period/stress testing.

All the RL Music supplied CS80s are serviced/restored by the world renown CS80 expert Kent Spong of KSR (Kent Spong Restorations) in London. Sound on Sound magazine (SOS) did an interview article on Kent, which you can find here:

Warranty Provided:
The CS80 is sold with a 6 month warranty as standard which covers all parts and labour and telephone/Skype technical support. KSR also provide full after-sales technical support for the CS80 by phone, email and Skype post-warranty. KSR are world renown CS80 experts and currently support hundreds of these models around the world for professional musicians/studios and enthusiasts etc.

Upgrade Option 1:
If Midi is required on the CS80 then we are able to supply and install the Kenton Midi retrofit Kits for an additional £850 GBP. Payment for the Midi Kits must be made in advance as they are made to order (minimum 14 day lead-time from Kenton).

Upgrade Option 2:
Total-Restoration Upgrade
All aspects of the CS80 cosmetic presentation are addressed including re-tolexing all the exterior, re-painting and screen printing all control surfaces. This work can take up to 12 weeks to complete from receipt of deposit (minimum 20%).  For more information on what is included in this ultimate upgrade option then please call or email us for details. The Total-Restoration Cosmetic Upgrade Option costs £3000 GBP. (does not include upgrade options 1, 3 & 4)

Upgrade Option 3:
Wood Surround (in Walnut) beautifully hand crafted by Lamond Design for an additional £750 GBP.

Upgrade Option 4:
KSR have designed the special modification for the CS80 (The Cascade Unison Mod ) so that if you press a single note then you get all 16 VCOs but if you press 2 notes together then it’s 8 voices per note..then 4 notes its 4 VCO’s per note etc etc. Thus meaning that it’s a kind of polyphonic unison, and offers new creative control of the powerful sound the CS80 delivers. Nearly all CS80’s we have sold in the last few years have had these fitted and it definitely adds great sonic value with no impact on the systems reliability or longevity. The Cascade Unison Mod costs £850 GBP.

Items of Note on this CS80 for sale:
Most CS80’s have lost their ‘Pedals, Music Stand and Legs’ over the years, so we are unable to supply these original accessories to the new owner, and this example for sale does not have any either. However, this CS80 we are Brokering does come with the original lid though (as pictured), and we will supply a copy of the owners manual on PDF.

This CS80 operates on EU220V, but can be converted to US110V if required.

Remarks: We’re excited to be able to get hold of this very nice condition CS70M (with Kenton MIDI) as they really are quite magnificent synths for a whole number of reasons. These were proper old-school designed hybrid digital/analogue systems made between 1981 and 1984, and it wasn’t long after these came out that the DX7 was introduced, which seems hard to believe really.

The CS70M has for many people been overlooked, or perhaps overshadowed by it’s bigger brother – the CS80, but this instrument has ascended in popularity among aficionados, and we know this synth is highly sought after by those who truly appreciate it.

6 Voice, dual channel (stereo), aftertouch, 30 memories, ring-mod, chorus & Leslie effects, lowpass, highpass, and bandpass VCF, fully programmable and with a 4 channel polyphonic sequencer etc.

Those in the know will already tell you that this is one of the finest analogue polys ever made, and a work of audio art in its own right. It shares most of the same technology as the CS80 and many of the characteristics and tonal qualities as well. The other big ‘Hello’ is also the fact you can get really close to the CS80 sound for a lot less money…this makes it even more appealing considering the price.

The owner we are selling this magnificent machine for has owned it since 1990 (original sales receipt supplied – bought from from a music dealer in Bath), and had only ever used it at home since. The owner had Kenton fit MIDI to it in 1992 (sales receipt also supplied)

The cosmetic condition of this example is very good overall but there are signs of user wear & natural ageing to the front panel paint, and along the rear-panel in places. The faux wood laminate cabinet it in very good order with only a couple of spots where this has been worn. The pictures we have taken are honest and represent the condition well, so we grade this is ‘good original condition – 7.5 out of 10 cosmetically.’ It’s not a museum piece for sure, but if it’s the sound that’s important to you then it will deliver this beautifully.

Operationally, our trusted ‘Yamaha CS Series’ restoration experts – KSR will be carrying out a full service on the CS70M, which will ensure 100% perfect operation for its new owner.

The operational condition is flawless, although we will service the synth again prior to handing over to the new owner. The cosmetic condition is pristine and quite remarkable for a 32+ year old instrument, as you can see in the high-res pictures below, so we categorise this as a ‘collector-grade’ instrument. Very rarely do these highly sought after models come up for sale in this condition, so if you have been looking for ‘the perfect Prophet 5’ then this is certainly the one to have.

Remarks: We are delighted to offer this exemplary condition Prophet 5 Rev 3.0 that was fully pro-restored in August 2016 by a very respected UK synth tech we know well – Ben at Cyberwave (http://www.vintagesynths.co.uk).

Usefully, the Prophet 5 can be set up to operate in different temperaments from equal-temperament. The operating system allows you to program microtonal adjustments across the keyboard, and store this in the synth memory locations.

This particular example was purchased brand new, by the current owner, in 1979 from Rod Argent’s in Denmark Street, London. It has only ever been kept and used in the owners home, and we rate the condition as museum/collector grade – outstanding! It’s extremely rare to have access to buy a instrument of this age and in this condition, plus the provence of a single owner, so this is a fine opportunity to own a piece of music history, and without doubt, and excellent investment looking ahead.

This beautiful Rev 3.0 is completely factory original, so does not have the factory MIDI fitted like on the later 3.3 revision. However, we are able to supply and fit a Kenton MIDI kit if required, although this upgrade cost option is not reflected in the sales price below, so please email us for a quote for supplying & fitting this.

The operational condition is 100% perfect of course, having just been fully restored operationally by Cyberwave (and fully tested by us of course), and as such, is available for sale & shipping straight away.

Remarks: The Prophet T8 represents the pinnacle of the Sequential product line and with MIDI implementation and built in facilities like the wooden weighted keyboard and polyphonic after-touch. This Curtis chipset based system is is a joy to use and a high-grade professional instrument.

Our restorers, KSR, are experts at preparing these models, and the example that we are Brokering here has come from a ‘home use only’ UK customer, so it’s in great shape. The synth will go though a full and extensive service post-sale, but the base-line cosmetic and operational condition is very good.

Restoration Status: KSR to service once sold, and prior to shipping to the new owner.

Remarks: This beautiful vintage synthesizer is in all original condition – all front panel surfaces, wood surround and tolex in very good condition, and showing only expected amounts of wear & tear for a 40 year old instrument. This is a ‘home only’ used instrument, so kept and used in a gentle environment which is clearly reflected in the condition. Also Included in the sale is the original Yamaha Accessories Bag which contains the legs, expression (volume) & sustain pedal (supplied as-is and untested/assembled).

The original owner has owned this CS60 since 1979, and was the first synth they ever owned. As a younger man, he applied some stickers to the synth, some of which you can still see in the photos below. We removed one of the large stickers but there is residue left, so these will need some gentle removal by whomever buys it.

The CS60 is a 8 note polyphonic system with velocity, after-touch and a ribbon controller which offers the player a really organic feel into the performance of the instrument. Other key real-time control facilities, such as the LFO/ring-modulator section really make the CS60 a great players instrument – it’s all about the performance with the big CS polys. 

The resonant qualities of the Yamaha CS series filter are unmatched by any other polysynth, so they sound unique. The CS60 shares the same architecture of the CS80 (including Memories & Ribbon Spring) which is why it offers an excellent way to dial into the CS80 sound potential for an awful lot less money.

This exceptional synthesizer will be fully serviced and calibrated by our tech, and Mr CS80 himself – Kent at KSR, prior to sale. This very good condition CS60 will represent an excellent investment and an everyday useable machine for any musician looking for a unique sound

Remarks: Although these are not rare by some vintage synth standards, finding an Arp 2600 in anything approaching even good condition is a real challenge in 2016. This is why we invest such a lot of time, resources and money into getting them restored to the highest possible level that can be achieved – a FULL cosmetic and operational project restoration!

This sales listing is for an Arp 2600 synth only, so does not come with any keyboard controller. The actual version is a 2600P V3.0, manufactured between 1972 to 1974.

This Arp 2600 we are Brokering, was actually sold to the owner in 2013 by RL Music, so we are delighted to have the opportunity to re-sell such a fine example for our client.

The owner of this Arp is the highly respected EM artist, Paul Lawler (www.paullawler.org). Paul kindly gave us his permission to disclose who the owner was as he felt there was some value in the potential new owner knowing that this 2600 has been used on his recent Arcane and Contact albums. The restoration work we invested into this Arp 2600 in 2013 was extensive (what we term Total Restoration).  The work included re-Tolexing the cabinet & lid, stripped the control-panel to bare metal and had it professionally repainted and screen-printed. We had all the sliders and sockets deep cleaned and the whole synth was electronically restored including a PSU rebuild/re-cap etc. We even fitted a full set of brand new slider caps to finish it off.

This ex-RL Music prepared Arp 2600 is over 40 years old, and is in excellent condition, and only shows only the lightest of wear from 3 years of studio use at Paul’s premises.  On average we spend around £3000 GBP just in restoration costs for these models (synth & keys), and this example we are Brokering has gone through the full restorative treatment only 3 years ago. So, if you have been looking to own a beautiful condition, and electronically sorted Arp 2600, then look no further.

As this Arp has no original 3620 or 3604-P keyboard controller, the 2600 can be very simply operated via a Midi-to-CV converter, or any 1V/Oct controller for that matter. Using a multi-channel MIDI-to-CV device like the Kenton Pro-2000 means 3 note polyphonic (or paraphonic in fact) operation is achievable.

This Arp 2600 is sold with a 3 month warranty and runs on EU220V (via an IEC socket retro-fitted to the synth in 2013 by KSR). A copy owners manual will be supplied (on PDF), and a UK IEC power-cable if required.

Remarks: We’re delighted to be able to offer what we consider to be one of the finest analogue polysynths ever produced – the Roland Jupiter 8. We supplied this actual JP8 to its current owner back in 2006, so we know the synth well, and have maintained it for them over the last decade.

As many of you will know, we often need to subject these models to extensive operational and cosmetic restoration (costing over £2800 GBP) to bring them up to the highest possible standard, however, this actual JP8 had already gone through this process in 2008.

We call this ‘Total Restoration’ and the work produces an almost factory new-looking machine as all the metal the panels have been stripped and re-sprayed & screen-printed, and the aluminum end-cheeks re-anodised. Remarks: The Prophet T8 represents the pinnacle of the Sequential product line and with MIDI implementation and built in facilities like the wooden weighted keyboard and polyphonic after-touch. This Curtis chipset based system is is a joy to use and a high-grade professional instrument.

Our restorers, KSR, are experts at preparing these models and the superb example that we are Brokering here was actually fully pro-restored by RL Music & sold to its owner some 6 years ago, so its good to see it back again. This example is a really outstanding cosmetic and operational condition synth having only had home use by our customer, although the T8 will go though a full and extensive servicing again by KSR to ensure it’s ready for the new owner.

The serial number of this T8 is 00683, and is running under operating system ROMs version 3.4

Remarks: These wonderful vintage synths are so hard to find these days in really fine condition, so when our client contacted us about selling theirs, we couldn’t resist the opportunity to be able to offer this.

The Oberheim Matrix 12 is a fully midi configured 12 voice Polysynth with keyboard velocity – an excellent addition to any analogue set-up and has to be heard to be believed. The M12 offers a deep programmable architecture for those of you into tweaking but can also be a very user friendly hands-on preset machine with quick access for live use. This means they sit between that digital and analogue medium perfectly and are arguably the best of the hybrid technology of the early to mid 1980’s.

Once you’re familiar with the comprehensive programming interface of the Matrix 12 you have one of the most powerful analogue systems ever made. The M12 was the last of the old Oberheim analogue synth technology, was beautifully designed and a powerhouse of thick analogue goodness that was tragically lost from just about every synth made after, when we all decided that the DX7 was the future!

This Matrix 12 operates on EU 220V & US 110V.

We are Brokering this very rare Prophet 5 Rev 2, for and on behalf of our UK client.

This Prophet 5 Rev 2 has been fitted with Kenton Midi, and it has been previously fully pro-restored by James Walker of Synth Repair Services (within the last 3 years).

As always, opinions circulate about the good, bad and differences between the Rev 2 and Rev 3 Prophets but the fact remains that the SSM based Rev 2 simply sounds (a lot) better. Its a significantly more rounded and fuller sound (trying to avoid the word fat you’ll notice) and the fabled SSM oscillators and filters work beautifully within this earlier Dave Smith designed synth.

The system architecture does differ quite significantly to the later versions, in particular with the abundant use of the SSM chipset throughout, but that’s the point of the Rev 2 and why its the most coveted model of all the Prophet lineage. Reliability is sometimes muted as a reason to avoid them, but regular use and good care is the key to longevity with any vintage analogue hybrid device and we have seen no less or more reliability with the Rev 3 platforms – and we have seen quite a few of both. However, we have a twist to the tail here with this example as it’s had a lot of attention paid to it to make it the best it can possibly be, so read on….

What helps this particular Rev 2 in the (no expense spared) attention by the owner to have the synth improved/upgraded, some details of what has been done as follows:

All capacitors have been replaced.
A brand new Power-Supply has been fitted
New trimmers for all VCOs fitted
New resistors for the Auto-Tune circuit fitted
New DAC installed
Lots of Logic chips replaced
Kenton MIDI installed
Cassette interface installed
Full key-bed overhaul & bushings replaced

The new firmware has lots of excellent features, like unison modes, new 2nd LFO, auto-tune improvements, front panel always live etc. Perhaps the perfect Rev 2..!

So, this beautiful instrument has been meticulously maintained, and in regular (home) use since the current owner purchased it in from the USA in 2011. Prior to this, we have no history on the Prophet 5, but it’s fair to say that this example is probably the best we have ever seen, and we’re very excited to be able to Broker it for our client.
