Remarks: The DX5 packs some serious bi-timbric synthesis power, and even by todays standards is a serious pice of kit, and sounds massive!

Operationally speaking, the DX5 is very close to the mighty DX1 but without the real estate and some performance features, which means it’s affordable for most people. This was Yamaha’s intention when it was released in 1985 as a professional grade instrument.

These models are quite hard to find these days in anything approaching decent condition so when our customer purchased this example he was after something at the top end of the quality scale.

From the customer supplied pictures you can see that this DX5 is in amazing condition, and it’s supplied with two ROM Cartridges.

This particular example was very recently fully serviced by KSR so in 100% perfect operational condition. Runs US 110V & EU 220V Voltage.

Remarks: The evolution of the Ensoniq Synthesizers from the ESQ-1 developed strongly into the VFX, which uses wavetable synthesis – like the PPG et al.

This model was a powerhouse of synth technology and even featured polyphonic aftertouch, inbuilt effects and 21 note polyphonic keyboard. Even by todays standards that’s impressive, although poly AT is exceptional!

Even if you don’t use the fantastic synth for its sounds (and why wouldn’t you?), you still have an excellent MIDI keyboard controller for your soft-synths, and it transmits Poly AT & velocity.

Remarks: We have been looking for another a very early production version Moog Music Inc. Minimoog and this excellent example became available to us via a customer who wants us to Broker it for them.

We always will tell you that there is something special about owning an early model that become immediately apparent once you start playing it, it’s about the sound. Also, the cabinets that Moog were using for these earlier machines were of a high quality hard wood, and they always respond beautifully to restoration.

This #2222 serial number Minimoog also has a MIDI retrofit – more details on that will be supplied shortly, but it makes it a very useful studio machine for DAW integration etc. The overall cosmetic condition is very good for such an early model although there is some wear as you might expect. These iconic Moog synths are the most beautifully made and conceived electronic instruments, so why wouldn’t anyone want to own one!

The picture featured below was from a similar age Minimoog that we restored a few years ago, so you can see the cosmetic results.

This particular Minimoog has has the octave buffer board fitted, and the upgraded VCO board from the later Minimoogs, so it will make it track and stay in tune beautifully across the octaves.

Once the restoration has been completed, this Minimoog will be good for another 40+ years. These instruments are many peoples ‘dream synth’ so if you are after something special..to keep, then why not finally get what you always wanted.

RL Music is delighted to present for you our superb condition Pro-One from the classic Sequential Circuits family.

We purchased this particular Pro-One from a RL Music customer who has ben using the synth in current album projects for the last couple of years so it had been well looked after. This particular synth has been regularly serviced by KSR so it’s in great operational condition throughout.

This is an earlier production model that uses J-wire key contacts. The sound of this synth seems a little more aggressive than other Pro-Ones we have heard which really gives it a rather special quality. It’s probably down to the components being a little older as it just sounds more powerful somehow….very nice indeed!

The cosmetic condition is very good all round, although there are some reasonable signs of wear, so not a museum piece but more a musicians tool.

The Pro-One is a superb mono-synth, utilising CEM chip technology like its bigger brother, the Prophet 5. A really great sounding vintage analogue synth and very flexible modulation routing capability and wonderful built in arpeggio & 40 note sequencer.

This good condition example has just been fully serviced, thoroughly cleaned and calibrated by KSR, and is being sold with a full 3 month warranty.

We reluctantly sold our own ‘in-house’ Elka Synthex back in April last year which we considered to be the best condition Mk3 example we had ever seen. Remarks: The Arp 2600 is among the very finest vintage modular synths ever made and equally the most sought after. Global availability of these Mk 3 models is very scare now so we’re very pleased to have this example available for sale.

The restoration work we will undertake on this Arp includes; complete re-Tolexing of the cabinets & lids. A full system overhaul which covers: PSU rebuild, calibration/testing and the case and all sockets/switches/sliders thoroughly cleaned & system-wide calibrations. Keyboard assembly deep-cleaned with new bushings fitted etc. We may fit a new 17 inch reverb tank to this as well, depending on the tank that’s already fitted in the synth – we’ll check that during the strip-down for restoration.

These RL Music prepared Arp 2600 are almost in ‘as-new’ condition to look at and play when finished.  We can spend over £2500 UKP just in restoration costs for these models (synth & keys).

It’s not often you will find this portable version of the Korg Minipops 120, and when we were offered it we just couldn’t resist.

How about some old-school rhythm section for your music projects. This 1970s portable analogue drum machine is punchy and really warm sounding. There are variation options for the 9 patterns to give 32 patterns in all across the 10 fabulous analogue drum sounds.

There is something about real analogue drum machines that delights. We know its all been done in software now but that misses the point completely as the simplicity and character of an original pure analogue device like his is simply divine. This particular example had going through our ‘Total Restoration’ cosmetic overhaul in 2009 (over £2K in restoration alone!) and represents one of the best condition Jupiter 8 in the world – fact!

Total Restoration means the panels has been stripped and re-sprayed & re-screen-printed and the end-cheeks re-anodised. All the electronics completely overhauled, key-bed refurbished, new perspex display etc. This is the highest level restoration we offer for these wonderful synths.

This example is a 12 bit version which also has the Encore MIDI kit fitted. The owner is downsizing his vintage synth collection and wanted his most prized synth to come back to us to find new home for. Remarks: We like to mix things up a bit from time to time and offer some unusual instruments so when this Powertran Transcendent Polysynth came to our attention, we snapped it up.

Designed by Tim Orr and featured as Kit built synth in the 1981 Edition of Electronics Today International magazine, this 4 note polyphonic evolution of Transcendent (2000) family actually uses Curtis (CEM) chipset tech and sounds really good!

Okay, it might look a little clunky and quirky but the reason we like it is the sound it produces, and a Curtis based polysynth for under a £1000 has to be worth a look. We’ll try and get some video, or at least some sound samples done for you, but you’re going to be impressed!

Cosmetically, this example is in great shape and was built but a skilled tech buy the look of it. KSR will be fully overhauling the synth so everything is going to be addressed, including rebuilding the key-bed etc. so this synth is going to shine and sing like new.

Remarks: Arguably one of the most sought after synthesizers in the world and we rarely have these in stock.

We have this beautiful condition VCS3 Mk2 going through restoration that has come from an film score composers collection. We’re not permitted to say who owned it but it’s been used in quite a few scores over the last 20 years. The condition of all the control surfaces is superb with only the cabinet needing some light restorative work by KSR. The whole system will be fully overhauled prior to sale although it’s been very well maintained and looked after over the years by professionals, for a professional.

Being a Mk2 it has the Prestopatch fitted and has silver anodised aluminum panels and coloured ‘Cliff’ control knobs. The EMS has a full compliment of Matrix pins and currently operates on US 110V. We can convert this to EU voltage depending on the buyers requirements.

Remarks: Another really rare find which is in great condition, and a pretty serious piece of kit from the amazing Yamaha CS series on the 70s.

The SK30 is a 7 voice Polysynth that also featured Organ and String section – a Combo Synth. A feature rich synth of it day, with aftertouch as well for modulation options – it’s Yamaha’s answer to the Moog Opus 3 or Arp Quadra. Much of the technology, design and layout is shared with all the other ‘CS’ series of that time including the CS70M etc. The Polysynth is pretty punchy and the distinctive ‘CS’ resonant filter makes this a unique sounding instrument….al la CS50/60/80.

This SK30 operates on EU 220V.

Yamaha SY-1

How about owning the first synthesizer model ever made by Yamaha (from 1974) – the SY-1.

A nice & completely original condition super funky (mono) preset synth that sounds very similar to the mighty GX-1 upper manual (3rd tier). Arguably the perfect partner for a CS80 as well, and did you know it was the very first synth used in the film Close Encounters of the Third Kind (before the Arp 2500 in the later sequence)…a bit of trivia for you.

The architecture of the SY-1 is basically GX-1 tech and the distinctive resonant filters offer something quite different from the similar Roland or Korg present synths of the time. Lots of paddle-presets and even aftertouch with some useful real-time contour controls, like pitch attack (like the CS80). Its actually quite a little ballsy (btw – a different word for Phat) synth and very enjoyable to play….and look at.
