Remarks: A really fantastic condition example of the ‘luxury’ version of this classic mono synth – EDP’s Wasp Deluxe, manufactured from 1979 to 1981. The Wasp sounds thick and creamy and is without a doubt a design classic, and so much so that a well-known synth manufacturer is building clones by the thousands in 2020.

The Deluxe version basically provided the owner with a more traditional wood cabinet, larger speaker and a proper 37 note key-bed, so perhaps had more appeal to musicians that could actually play a keyboard rather than messing around with the touch-sensitive keyboard that came with the standard Wasp.

It’s a rare thing to find these special editions and looking at historical sales data, they have become highly collectable.  The original EDP Wasp is a brilliant creation from Chris Huggett and brought analogue synthesis to a lot of us youngsters back in the late ’70s who had little money to spend on our music passions.  We were very saddened to hear the Chris has passed away on 22nd October, another genius British synth designer gone.  Chris leaves us all with a legacy that has already stood the test time and popularity into the 21st century, any of us could only dream of achieving so much. 

Kent at KSR confirmed that this Wasp Deluxe is actually signed inside by Chris Huggett, so this was actually built by him!

Our client has not owned this Wasp Deluxe very long, having purchased it as a fully serviced example from a UK synth dealer in 2019, but he commissioned KSR to fully health-check the synth to ensure it’s 100% before placing it up for sale through us.

It’s been very well cared for, and cosmetically speaking, is in good condition, with only the expected amount of wear to the control surfaces. All the controls work perfectly, and the original wood cabinet is in very nice condition aside from some damage to the back, which you can see in the photo below.

This Wasp Deluxe operates via the external 9V DC PSU.  We were not supplied with one but a brand new external PSU will be supplied with the Wasp.

As the instrument is being Brokered through RL Music, it will be sold with a full 3-month warranty and can be shipped worldwide.

Note on Demos, and because…Covid:  The Wasp Deluxe is currently based in Surrey (UK) with our tech, Kent at KSR.  Although there are strict Covid-19 restrictions in place throughout the UK at present, Kent has very kindly offered for anyone who would like to see and demo the Wasp Deluxe before buying it, to demo it at his premises.  Kent is able to set up the synth in a place that meets distancing rules, that’s safe for him and the customer, so if you want to check the synth it out then that option is open to you. 

Alternately (recommended), Kent can produce short video demo’s to show the working condition of the Wasp, but this is by request only.  If we get a single request to do this then we will, of course, upload that to the KSR YouTube channel and probably just post it here in the listing, but Kent’s a very busy guy (good techs always are) so he’s not had the time to proactively do this for us and/or this EDP.

RL Music, in collaboration with Ronaldo Lopes Teixeira Rolt, are delighted to announce the launch of Vintage Synth Miniatures

Back in 2007, we had an idea to offer high-quilty hand-made scale reproductions of vintage synths, but exhaustive searches to find the right person or business that could help us came to nothing, so we shelved the whole thing but still had the ambition to realise that idea.

Winding forward to late 2019, we finally had some success as we made contact with a massive vintage synth fan who also happens to makes scale models. Talk about the perfect fit!

Ronaldo Lopes Teixeira Rolt, an Illustrator and graphic designer, although now retired, is a Prog Rock lover and vintage synth fan. He’s lives in São Paulo, Brazil, and has been producing artwork and models for many years as a hobby. However, more recently he’s been promoting his ‘vintage synth miniatures’ through attending synth related events in Brazil, so his models and skills have reached a wider audience, but he plans to keep this labour of love as a hobby. Ronaldo was very interested to work with us at RL Music due to the obvious synergy and shared passion for vintage synths, so we offered him a way to channel some business back to him, and satisfy our own need to build our own vintage synth miniatures collection to go with our original instruments in the RL Music Collection.

Ronaldo was invited by Mr Michel Geiss (Jean-Michel Jarre’s partner) to make an exhibition at Synthfest in France last June 2019.

UVI, the well known French Music Software Company, commissioned Ronaldo to produce 53 miniatures (keyboards and drum machines) for them.

Ronaldo, a huge Prog Rock fan, decided to build Rick Wakeman’s rig from 1973…

Remarks: We are offering up for sale, what we believe is the only opportunity to buy the last ‘as factory new’ Moog System 15 reissue left in the world. This Moog has never been touched since it left the factory in Asheville, USA. We never even took off the packing tape on the outer shipping box, so it genuinely qualifies as a mint condition instrument and as it came shipped from Moog.

There is #34 on the shipping box, so that’s possibly the serial/production number, but without opening it up, we wouldn’t know. The Moog System 15 comes included with all the documentation, certificate and cables ex-factory so a little time capsule already.

We purchased this brand new Moog back in 2016, and the intention was to keep it, unboxed, for use in the future, and to add to our Vintage Moog Modular collection. However, due to ongoing investments into the RL Music brand, including a new website we are having built, we now need to raise some cash, so reluctantly we will have to let this beautiful instrument go to another custodian.

There is plenty of information on the internet (and from Moog of course) about this beautifully re-made classic from the original Moog companies 1973 portable Modular line-up, and what a superb job of reproducing this they have done. It’s a hand-built instrument that oozes quality, heft and presence, with a ‘no expense spared’ approach to manufacturing it. We had the opportunity to Broker another System 15 reissue in 2019, and we can attest that this is most certainly not a low-budget clone, and sounds almost indistinguishable from the vintage original…bravo!

The pictures showing the front-panel and inner/retail box are for illustration only and our from our library of another System 15 reissue we sold for a client in December last year, so not the unboxed example we are selling now. The two pictures showing the shipping box and the ‘#34’ are of the actual instrument, or at least the outer-shipping-box with the modular synth inside its retail box, which we took in our storage unit, or Synth Storage Emporium, as we like to call it.

Of the only 150 produced there are no Moog System 15 reissues left in the world for sale from authorised Moog dealers. This sale is a unique opportunity to buy a factory-new machine that’s not had a hand touch it since it left the factory.

Whoever buys this Moog will be offered the opportunity (free of charge) for our synth tech, Kent Spong at KSR, to health-check to operational condition, but this will mean the packaging will need to be opened up to do this. This option is available, but we are not proactively going do anything to the Moog unless with strict instructions, and post-purchase, by the new owner. The Moog will be sold with our standard 3-month warranty.

Remarks: This is a rare instrument in 2020, and an unusual Organ/Strings combo that brings something different to the table at a time when the world was dominated by big Prophets, OBs and Jupiter polysynths in the early ’80s.

It’s a CEM based 6 note polyphonic analogue system that employs two DCOs that are then distributed through dived-down ICs.  This architecture would have been used to keep the costs down, so you can see the Stratus was aimed at the consumer market. It sounds really nice, warm and very vintage in character, and is still very affordable today.

As you can see from the pictures below, the cosmetic condition of the panels and faux wood are excellent on this 35-year-old machine, and the Stratus still has its original gig-bag and three overlays. There are some small marks to a couple of the key-tops and minor scuffs here and there, but we think you will agree, it’s a fine example and certainly the best condition Stratus we have ever seen.

We think the Stratus is cool and a low-cost way of reaching into that vintage sound, that early ‘80s electronica vibe, and offers musicians something different socially when the current generation of cheap synths are all sounding the same in a world that is full of replicants.  

This Stratus is sold through RL Music with a 3-month warranty and can be shipped worldwide. The synth operates on EU 220V via an IEC socket, power-cable supplied (UK plug fitted).

Remarks: We are brokering this very good condition example for a UK client who has owned it for 30+ years, although it’s not been in much use in recent times, so they have asked us to find a new custodian for it.

A very powerful mono synth from Yamaha’s ‘CS’ family, the CS30 is a remarkably flexible system, and although it takes a moment to get your mind around the programming logic, that’s certainly half the fun in mastering them. 

The CS30 is an extremely capable synthesizer with some excellent routing & shaping facilities, characterised by the fabled ‘CS series’ resonant filters which deliver a very musical tone. The sine wave on the VCOs can be set up to output one of the most potent basses we have ever heard from a mono synth, something not many people will appreciate. The built-in 8 step sequencer makes this synth unique in the CS series and is one of only a few vintage synths that featured this beneficial facility. There are a useful amount of inputs for control including CV/Gate so you can hook her up quickly to a Midi to CV converter. There is also an audio-in for running external signals through the synth, which is a nice touch.

This example is a Japanese market model, so runs on 100V. We can provide a step-down transformer if needed (subject to your requirements & quotation).

Remarks: A really beautiful condition example of one of the best looking and sounding hybrid analogue polysynth of its generation – The Arp Quadra.

Produced between 1978 to 1981, the Quadra was adopted by many of the great bands of that era, probably the most notable being Tony Banks of Genesis – it’s beautiful and distinctive sounds can be heard in many of their albums of that period.

As the name suggests, the Quadra is 4 instruments in one, so a Bass synth, Polysynth, Lead synth, and String synth..all of which it does exquisitely well, and the built-in phase-shifter is to die for.  This all adds up to make this ‘must-have’ vintage keyboard for any serious fan.

Our client has owned this Quadra for over 10 years and very well cared for in his home. They commissioned James Walker to fully operationally overhaul the Quadra in 2009, so it’s had one of the worlds best synth-techs apply his skills to bringing the Quadra up to full spec with the required re-capping, new keyboard-bushes and calibrations etc.  As mentioned above, we will ask KSR to fully health-check and apply any service actions required post-sale.

Cosmetically, this 38+ year-old vintage analogue polysynth is in fantastic conditions you can see from the photos, with only some signs of wear to the metal panel in places. The main control surface is in remarkable condition with all the controls (slider/keys) intact and all mylar membrane switches working perfectly. The leather end-cheeks are in super condition throughout, with just some light wear as you would expect for a device this age.

This Arp Quadra operates on EU 220V.  We do have a user manual (in PDF format).  As the instrument is being Brokered through RL Music, it will be sold with a full 3-month warranty and can be shipped worldwide.

Servicing Status: KSR have already fully serviced this Arp 2600 & 3604-P in November 2019, so they’re ready for sale now.

Remarks: We present the stunning and iconic Arp 2600 semi-modular which contains the sought after (and so-called) pre-lawsuit Moog 4012 style filter. This instrument is at least 45 years old (built between 1972 to 1974) looks beautifully vintage and sounds absolutely amazing.

This Arp 2600 is a version 2600P v3.0, with original 4012 Filter + 3604P Keyboard controller. It features Semi-normalised – 3 VCOs (type 4027-1), 4 pole Lowpass VCF, VCA, Ring Modulator, 2 EGs, sample & hold Noise, Mic Preamp, 17 inch Spring Reverb, Voltage Processor and Four Octave Keyboard….the list goes on.

This Arp combo has been in the ownership of our client for 30+ years but has been stored for quite a while, so KSR were commissioned to carry out a complete overhaul to get it up to spec and ready for sale through us. Details of the work carried out as follows:

Notes on the cosmetic condition:

The control surfaces/panels on the synth & keyboard have been deep cleaned. To retain authenticity, the original tolex was left untouched but deep-cleaned, and actually is in pretty good shape considering this instrument is 45+ years old. The bright-work (nickel-plated components like catches and hinges) were improved using hand polishing techniques but they are predicability showing signs of ageing, with a natural patina, but we actually feel this is part of the charm of an un-cosmetically restored example, and to some owners, an important character to keep original.

Notes on the restoration:

The operational restoration on this 2600 & keyboard has been extensive, and mostly all Arp 2600 systems we see these days need this level of attention. KSR had undertaken a complete ground-up rebuild of the electronics with full test and calibrations and PSU rebuild etc. Each and every slider was split apart, cleaned and rebuilt, every jack cleaned & tested, and a system-wide check of all connectors, and solder joints etc. The keyboard was stripped and completely overhauled, and new neoprene bushes fitted etc. Where possible, all the original parts were retained to ensure continuity and authenticity but some ageing components like power conditioning caps have been replaced, but only were absolutely necessary.

The original 3604-P keyboard is certainly useful, and not only is it the historically correct partner for this model of 2600, but also the exact serial number match, so they were paired when manufactured (see serial# picture below). in reality, the 3604-P offers limited access to the extensive inputs into the main synth, so to get the most out of the 2600 we would recommend using a multi-channel Midi to CV device like the Kenton Pro-2000 which can give you 3 note polyphonic control if needed, although any 1V/Oct analogue controller/sequencer etc., will work fine. We can supply a Kenton Pro-200 but is not included in the sales price below, so please ask us for prices.

This is a fantastic opportunity to buy one of the most iconic vintage synths ever made, original cosmetics and paired synth and keyboard. The sales price has been agreed with our client to keep it very competitive and by far the best value example in the UK and Europe at the time of posting this page.

These outstanding synthesizers are hard to find in decent condition, so here is a rare opportunity to own an original example that will only appreciate in value and add something special to your studio/home.

Remarks: A really nice condition example of the sampler that started off the legendary series: The E-mu Systems Emulators, from 1981 until the 1990s.

The Emulator 1 was a truly groundbreaking instrument that is commonly considered to have stared a music revolution in the use of samplers in popular music. Early adopters were some of the biggest names in the industry, like Michael Jackson (Quincy Jones), Stevie Wonder, Genesis etc. There’s plenty about the history that can be found on-line, but the Emulator 1 is something very special, for a number of good reasons.

The Model number of this Emulator 1 is 6008 (serial #470 – out of 500 built), which makes this a later production version 8 Voice system, manufactured in 1983. The unique architecture of the E1 delivers the 8 voices in a 5/3 keyboard split, so 5 voices in the lower half, 3 at the top above the mid-point keyboard split. This E1 also has the RS232 port fitted, so with the right software/hardware, you can access the system remotely.

The E1 comes with 30 floppy disks, including 8 from the original Production Set (all real instruments, harps, clavinets, tympani, orchestra hits etc) and a multi-sampling disk. We have a PDF document detailing the library which we will supply with the instrument.

Our client has owned this Emulator 1 since 1993, and has used it on countless recordings, but has not been using it for a while now, so has decided to pass it on. It’s been very well cared for, and cosmetically speaking, is in good condition, with only the expected amount of wear to the painted metal cabinet.  KSR has already fully serviced this Emulator 1, including re-bushing the key-bed, so all the controls work perfectly, and the load/play/sampling functions are 100%, so it’s good to go.

This Emulator 1 operates on EU 220V. We do have a printed user manual supplied form the owner which will be supplied with the sampler.

We are Brokering this EML-101 for a UK customer.

Came into stock: October 2019.

Restoration Status: KSR has already health-checked this pre-restored instrument and gave a 100% pass, so it’s ready for sale now.

Remarks: A super condition example of a rare machine to see available for sale these days and in the scheme of things, not all that well known either.  To any aficionado of vintage analogue synthesisers, Electronic Music Laboratories involvement with music instrument goes back to the late 1960s, and much like the British EMS products, share a similar boutique feel to them, was sold to education facilities (universities and schools etc.) and oozes charter and uniqueness.  

The EML-101 was the third product to come out of Connecticut, in the USA, from 1972 and much like the Arp 2600, is 4 x VCO, 3 x VCF semi-modular system that offers duo phonic operation and patchable break-out to really dig into the sound design possibilities.  The architecture of the EML differs from what Arp and Moog were doing in their designs at that time as it uses op-amps to deliver much from stability in tuning, and reliability in general.

This particular example has been subjected to a sympathetic restoration, having a beautifully made wood cabinet & catches/handles for the keyboard and main synth.  The main control panel was left original, so shows a natural patina for its age, retaining that vintage feel and look.  Internally, the circuits are all in outstanding condition, being well mounted internally and of course, the whole system is fully operational.  The keyboard has had new bushes fitted and plays beautifully.  The mains transformer has been upgraded to a high-quality toroidal one with a very professionally installed voltage rectifier circuit. It operates on 220~240V rather than the original US voltage – this has made the 101 very stable and it has a very low noise floor. Surprisingly so for such an old instrument (47 years at most).

Our client, the owner, did not commission the restoration, so we don’t have any information on who did the work, but it’s of the very highest standard and certainly equal to anything we could have achieved if it had been one of our own projects.

Our client purchased the EML-101 from a Swedish collector/musician about 3 years ago, so it’s not been in his possession all that long, but they told us that It is an early version as it doesn’t have the ‘SEQ IN’ socket on the patch-bay, but has the ‘CM2’ out socket.

Kent at KSR has given a full health-check of the EML-101 and told us ‘it was perfect’ so there were no service items to carry out.  This verifies what our client told us as well, so we’re confident this is ready for sale and shipping now.

As mentioned above, the EML-101 runs on 220~240V, sold with a full 3-month warranty and a copy of the owners manual will be supplied (PDF) as well.

We are Brokering this very good condition DK1 for a UK customer.

Restoration Status: KSR has already fully serviced this DK1 so it’s ready for sale now.

Remarks: The (David Cockerell designed) EMS DK1, aka ‘The Cricklewood,’ analogue keyboard controller was made to pair with the EMS Synthi & VCS3.  The manufacturing date for this controller will be from between 1969 to 1972, so at least 47 years old.  The serial for is #2118, so Robin at EMS might have the manufacturing date for this in his archive.

This DK1 has just been subjected to complete service by Kent at KSR, so is certified 100% fully operational.  No deeper restoration has been applied to it other than some cleaning, so the wood and tolex has not been stripped or replaced, although it was not needed anyway as the overall presentation is very good.

You will notice that there has been a small slide-switch added to the control panel (between the input change toggle switches).  Our client, the owner, did not have this implemented, and has no knowledge of it, but Kent at KSR has told us that is serves no purpose and had no circuitry to it, so it’s a legacy mod that had some function for the keyboard in the last 40+ years, but no longer does anything.   The switch is non-functional, so does not interfere with the normal operation of the DK1.

Cosmetically speaking, the modification mention above could be removed and the whole panel restored to look standard, and if this was our own DK1 we might have invested into having that work carried out.  However, what we decided to do when discussing the with our client was to leave it as-is and price the DK1 accordingly, to reflect the effect the switch has to the presentation.  There is also a chrome cliff-knob cap missing.

The DK1 has two independent channels of CV, these can set to different modes, and the keyboard has its own built-in VCO for modulation options, plus as “Dynamic Channel’ output and a VCA.  You would connect the DK1 to the Synthi or VCS3 via the Cinch-Jones keyboard interconnect cable, and optionally, a second 1/4 inch jack cable for the ‘input ch2’ into the synthesizer.

The ‘Dynamic Channel’, can be used to operate the  DK1s 37 note velocity-sensitive keyboard. This means the velocity action sends a separate control voltage.  This would commonly be used for loudness control, providing you set the matrix-patch on your Synthi or VCS3 to operate that way. The ‘Dynamic Channel’ can actually be set to control almost any facility on the Synthi or VCS3…which is what these amazing synths are all about really.

If you need it, We are able to supply the Cinch-Jones keyboard interconnect cable to run the DK1 into either a Synthi or VCS3, price upon request.

Remarks: A nice condition example of the final production version of the iconic Roland VP330 Vocoder Plus with MIDI.

The VP330 was always loved for the rich analogue strings and alone make this instrument worth having, but the vocoder section with the external mic & synth inputs can deliver some very exciting voicing effects and timbres/triggering etc.  The VP330 has been used by many great artists, including Vangelis (Blade Runner), William Orbit and many others, so it has a long and distinguished history of use and a loving fan base. 

As mentioned above, Kent at KSR has carried out a full service on this VP330, and he told us that is was a ‘very nice clean example’ so there were no significant items to address in getting the instrument ready for sale.  Everything works 100% of course, including the retrofitted Kenton MIDI kit.  The main control surfaces/keys are all still looking good, with only some normal amount of water through age and use, and all the controls are present and intact.  The faux wood cabinet is in good condition also, with just some normal wear in places.

Restoration Status: KSR to service once sold, and prior to shipping to the new owner.

Remarks: A truly exemplary condition example of the late version (Mk3) Elka Synthex – with the factory MIDI. We actually sold this beautiful example to the owner, our client, back in 2015, so it’s an ex-RL Music restored Synthex Mk3! Due to health reasons, our client has very reluctantly had to consider letting the Synthex go, so we collected in person from them, to ensure maximum safety in handling in getting it back to us.

This has to be one of the finest analogue polysynths ever made and was used by all the top artists of the ’80s, especially JMJ. Built-in 4 track sequencer 8 voice polyphonic, twin oscillator 24 dB/octave low pass filter 6 & 12 dB/octave bandpass filters 12 dB/octave high pass filter. The specification doesn’t tell you that this is a silky smooth performer and in the right hands can deliver and almost polyphonic modular experience…just an amazing machine.

The overall condition of this Synthex is exemplary and has most definitely been treated with love and care throughout its life, and whilst our client has owned it they have had it set up in their home with a dust cover over it when not in use. It’s a stunning machine, a collector grade instrument: 9.9 out of 10.

We reluctantly sold our own ‘in-house’ Elka Synthex back in 2017, which we considered being the best condition Mk3 example we had ever seen. This Synthex now available, certainly matches that in quality, and will represent a fine instrument and investment for anyone looking for the best condition Synthex in the world.

KSR will be conducting a full service/health-check on the operational side, even though it was fully restored by them in 2015.

Servicing Status: A full service by KSR has already been carried out (July 2019), so this Prophet 5 is ready for sale & shipping now.

Remarks: We are delighted to offer this super condition Prophet 5 Rev 3.2 with a Kenton MIDI retrofit installed. This synth has been in the ownership of our client for at least 20 years, although they told us it was in storage for at least the last 10 years, so they commissioned Kent at KSR to give the Prophet 5 a full overhaul/service etc.

The Kenton MIDI kit works flawlessly and brings the P5 into the DAW environment nicely which keeps the synth in step with all the modern music tech.

The service included full system overhaul (re-capped/calibration etc) and clean and keyboard assembly deep-clean with new bushings. The wood case has been also been refinished by hand. All the potentiometers and micro-switches were cleaned as well so all are smooth to touch and operate. We decided to leave the patches in the Prophet 5 as they are actually really nice, but we can install the factory resent if the buyer of this prefers.

These are unique sounding instruments and don’t be fooled in thinking the Prophet 6 is an alternative…it’s not. There’s a certain punch and warmth that this vintage Curtis chipset based system delivers, and you just have to listen to a-ha, Soft Cell and Genesis etc. to appreciate how influential this synth was to musicians in the 1980s….and still is today.

Did you know that the Prophet 5 can be set up to operate in different temperaments from equal-temperament? The operating system allows you to program microtonal adjustments across the keyboard, and store this in the synth memory locations. This is not something we have tried, but the user manual goes into some depth about how to achieve it.

Kent at KSR commented that this Prophet 5 was in really great shape internally and had clearly been really well maintained throughout its life, including the current owner’s custodianship.

The operational condition is flawless, and as you can see in the high-res pictures below, the overall cosmetic condition is very good for a 35+ year-old instrument, with only minor wear from use. The rear/back panel does show some marks and wear to the factory painted surfaces, so we wouldn’t rate this is a collector grade example, but certainly 8 out of ten, and it looks beautiful where it counts.

This Prophet 5 is sold through RL Music with a 3-month warranty and can operate on US 110V or EU 220V. Also, a user manual (PDF) will be supplied with the synth plus a UK IEC power-cable if required.

Remarks: The classic rack polysynth combo is considered by many enthusiasts to be one of the best sounding vintage analogue rack-synths ever.

The MKS80 Super Jupiter is powerful velocity and pressure sensitive 8 voice/16 VCO analogue polysynth with that big vintage Roland sound, and a stack of modulation and editing facilities.  The accompanying MPG80 controller is an essential piece of kit if you want to really dig down into the programming and open up the synth’s capabilities, and is a joy to use.

This unit is the much sought after Rev.5 version of the MKS80 (see PCB pictures below) featuring the Roland IR3R03 VCO and VCF/VCA IR3R05 chipset, amongst other architectural differences to the earlier versions. Many say the Rev.5 comes closest to sounding like the Jupiter 8, but we’ll leave that debate to the internet to continue.

Both the operating panels MKS80 & MPG80 programmer are in excellent cosmetic condition as you would expect from a rack system, and the interconnect cable for the MPG80 is present. In addition, there original Roland M-64C Memory Cartridge is also supplied with this combo, providing additional samples for the MKS80.

Both units work perfectly and contain many of their original patches, and they’re simple to set up in your studio and get to work with straight out of the box. This combo has come to us from a private owner who is downsizing his synth collection, which is all in fantastic condition, so home use only for many years, which the overall condition verifies.

This combo sounds and operates like all MKS80 should, so if the sound is more important than looks, then this instrument will make a good studio workhorse for your vintage analogue poly needs.

Remarks: Much has been written on these incredible synthesizers and it’s understandable when you use them as they really can deliver a thick analogue wall of sound, and are perfect pad and brass sources just for starters.

The Xpander lineage includes the Matrix 6 and 12 and is a fully midi configured, 6 voice Polysynth – an excellent addition to any analogue set-up and has to be heard to be believed. he Xpander offers a deep programmable architecture for those of you into tweaking but can also be a very user-friendly hands-on preset machine. This means they sit between that digital and analogue medium perfectly and are arguably the best of the hybrid technology of the early to mid-1980s.

This example is a Japanese build unit (serial #700151), that works perfectly, and as mentioned above, has just been fully serviced by KSR. The cosmetic condition is excellent, as you can see from the pictures below. Kent at KSR has also restored the wood end-cheeks on the Xpander, so the whole presentation is superb.

This Oberheim Xpander has come to us from a private owner who is downsizing his synth collection, which is all in fantastic condition, so home use only for many years, which the overall condition verifies. We’re very pleased to be able to offer this wonderful synthesizer as a Brokered deal, and we will be fully servicing it and selling it with a 3-month warranty.

Remarks: A fabulous opportunity to own a vintage EMS Synthi A, and this example is in super all original condition throughout.

This Synthi (serial #4024) was purchased brand new by our client Father-in-Law in 1972 so they are the original and only owner of this instrument. There have not been any modifications made to this Synthi so it’s factory spec. Being an early model, the sound of this Synths sublime, and a real connoisseurs/collectors machine that we would grade as 9.5 out of 10.

Since 1973, this Synthi A was used in numerous avant-garde music projects by the owner, who was an experimentalist musician, that published an album in the early 70s using this Synthi A (amongst other items). Since the death of the owner, this Synthi A has been kept in storage, unused, since the early 1980s. This is a bit of a ‘barn find’ for the family, so they had commissioned Kent at KSR to undertake a full restoration of this Synthi, which was completed 7 days ago, so the EMS is now in perfect operations condition.

Cosmetically, this is in excellent all original condition throughout, with hardly any noticeable wear to the control panel. The Spartanite case is undamaged and looks almost like new, and the nickel catches/hinges are in very good condition. This Synthi A also comes with a full complement of Matrix pins and the proprietary power-cable.

These iconic and truly amazing pure analogue music instruments are in great demand by professional users, and prices are being driven up fast on the second-hand market around the world, so now might be a good time to invest in one before they become ‘Vintage Buchla or RA Moog Modular’ prices. The price of this Synthi A has been agreed with the owner to stimulate a faster sale, so it’s available at a fantastic price and by far the best value in the world today, for a vintage EMS synthesizer.

We can’t think of a more iconic, truly portable synthesizer ever being made, and even today the design of the Synthi is considered a triumph of feature and form…incredible.
