Service Status: 

A full service was carried out by Ben Rossborough at Cyberwave EMS in November 2023, including it being retrofitted with the 80017A VCF VCA Juno-106 voice chip Filter IC clones from Analogue Renaissance.

Remarks: 

Without any doubt a true vintage synth and a very useable and practical analogue polysynth keyboard for live use as well as studio.  The is among the first factory fitted MIDI synths from Roland in the early 80s, and with its on-board effects (chorus) and a really warm 24db/Oct filter, it sounds (and is) really retro whilst the DCO’s provide strong tuning stability.

The more advanced MIDI control on the 106 (SysEx) means you can use external patch-editors (Mac & PC) although in truth it’s not all that complex to program from the front panel…which is a big part of the joy of owing a vintage synth like this.

Background:

Our client purchased this many years ago, and the Juno 106 had only ever been used at his home but they now work abroad so the synth had been stored away for some time. It was recently sent over to Ben at Cyberwave for a full service as it had been stored for a while, and the full suite of brand new VCF/VCA installed as mentioned above, so it’s a  good to go.

The cosmetic condition is outstanding, excellent as you can see from the photos included in this listing that we took.

Remarks: This Juno 60 was purchased by our client some years ago and was only ever used in the home.  The cosmetic condition is very good, and the whole synth only shows light indications of use & wear to the control surface and faux wood cabinet, but overall, it’s a very nice machine at an exceptionally good price. 

The design of the Juno 60 has to be one of the best Roland ever produced in terms of simplicity of sound design and warmth of character. The Juno 60 has been a ‘go-to’ synth for working musicians wanting that vintage sound for quite a while now.  It kind of defies logic that a DCO synth could deliver such a lush and musical tone, and it’s won the hearts and minds of all synthesists who’d had the opportunity to own or play one.

This synth sounds and operates like all Juno 60 should, and KSR has just fully serviced the synth, so it’s 100% working perfectly and good to go.  The price has been agreed with our client to reflect the overall condition and to try for a quick sale, so it’s likely the best value Juno 60 in the world being sold from a dealer.

This Juno 60 is sold through RL Music with a 3-month warranty and operates on EU 220V.  It does have an old flight case, but it’s worn and has no handle. If you were to collect the Juno 60 from us, the flight case would serve as useful protection for transport in person, but we will not ship the synth in the case.  There’s also a printed b&w copy of the owner’s manual; we also can supply this in a PDF if needed.

Remarks: 

The consumer version of the Juno 106, has been gaining popularity in recent years simply due to the price point on the 106 having gone up so much.  The HS-60 is architecturally identical to the Juno 106 (aside from the speakers obviously), so for the savings against the 106 it’s looks like a good deal in 2022.

Produced around 1985, the HS-60 is a 6 voice DCO based polysynth that sounds the same as a Juno 106, which is a really good thing as the 106 is a super sounding vintage synth.  It all comes with MIDI.

Background:

Our client purchased this HS-60 only a few years ago, and the Roland has only been used at his home.  It had previously been retrofitted with the 80017A VCF VCA Juno-106 voice chip Filter IC clones from Analogue Renaissance, so it’s all been sorted.

This wonderful 6 voice system came from a time when Roland made such cool looking synths and had a warm and timeless vintage sound to them. The Juno 6 was many peoples first polysynth and we have had many tell us that they sold theirs years ago and regretted it – well, you can have one again…and a really beautiful example as well.

Although lacking MIDI, this synth has a nostalgic appeal and is perfectly useable to make music today but you have to use your hands and not a remote computer to play it. The digitally controlled/generated oscillator keeps the system in perfect tune, and this model has the exact same sound and programming capability of the Juno 60 but without the extra price.

As you can see from the pictures below, the cosmetic condition of the panels and faux wood is excellent. The only item of note is a small ‘etched’ number into the paint on the back-plane, next to the output section, which was presumably for an asset ID for some previous owner.

This Juno 6 is sold through RL Music with a 3-month warranty and can be shipped worldwide. The synth operates on EU 220V (UK plug fitted).

Restoration Status: KSR to service once sold, and prior to shipping to the new owner.

Remarks: A truly exemplary condition example of the late version (Mk3) Elka Synthex – with the factory MIDI. We actually sold this beautiful example to the owner, our client, back in 2015, so it’s an ex-RL Music restored Synthex Mk3! Due to health reasons, our client has very reluctantly had to consider letting the Synthex go, so we collected in person from them, to ensure maximum safety in handling in getting it back to us.

This has to be one of the finest analogue polysynths ever made and was used by all the top artists of the ’80s, especially JMJ. Built-in 4 track sequencer 8 voice polyphonic, twin oscillator 24 dB/octave low pass filter 6 & 12 dB/octave bandpass filters 12 dB/octave high pass filter. The specification doesn’t tell you that this is a silky smooth performer and in the right hands can deliver and almost polyphonic modular experience…just an amazing machine.

The overall condition of this Synthex is exemplary and has most definitely been treated with love and care throughout its life, and whilst our client has owned it they have had it set up in their home with a dust cover over it when not in use. It’s a stunning machine, a collector grade instrument: 9.9 out of 10.

We reluctantly sold our own ‘in-house’ Elka Synthex back in 2017, which we considered being the best condition Mk3 example we had ever seen. This Synthex now available, certainly matches that in quality, and will represent a fine instrument and investment for anyone looking for the best condition Synthex in the world.

KSR will be conducting a full service/health-check on the operational side, even though it was fully restored by them in 2015.

Remarks: Time capsule Alert! We were delivered the Juno 60 from our client today and can really only describe this machine as in factory new condition. Our Client stepped out of his time machine and handed it to us….well, it has certainly felt like that looking at the condition of this Juno 60.

This completely original and unmodified Juno 60 was purchased new by our client in 1983 from a well-known music store on in the South of England (Eddie Moors’ Music) and has been kept at the owners home since. It has been used regularly throughout its life and the operational condition was perfect when we tested it this morning. This is a really rare find and the Juno 60 even comes with all its original documents and program data cassette! A very much loved and cared for instrument and the cosmetic condition reflects this perfectly as it’s immaculate.

The Juno 60 is the same synth as the Juno 6 but the 60 has programmable memories and MIDI Capability. As with its sibling, the sound engine is the same beautifully warm vintage Roland sound, but having the memories on the 60 makes it more of a ‘go-to’ synth for working musicians wanting that vintage sound.

This factory standard Juno 60 is in ‘collector grade’ condition 9.9 out of 10.

Remarks: What’s a Juno 60 VSE?  Well, these customised versions have some very nice cosmetic restoration, and a complete operational refurbishment to produce a unique Juno 60.  Here are the highlights:

>Brand new solid Oak cabinets were hand made by Lamond Design.

>Panels are stripped and repainted, (black or white) – to RL Music specifications. The panels were then screen-printed using different graphic colours to complement the background finish.

>We supply & fit a new Minerva MIDI kits.

>KSR final assembly and fitting of MIDI kits PLUS full electronic overhaul and key-bed refurbishment, staining and hand finishing of wood cabinets and then 7 day soak-test.

In February 2012, KSR had totally disassembled 2 x Juno 60 to begin the project restoration.
