Arp Odyssey Mk1

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our customer

Came into stock: 1st August 2013

Restoration Status: Full project restoration being undertaken now with an ETA on completion of around October 2013.

Remarks: We were excited when we heard our customer wanted us to Broker his white-face Mk1 Odyssey as we haven’t seen one of these for a while.

This Odyssey is being completely stripped down and rebuilt from scratch. Due to it’s age and the usual cosmetic wear you see on these models, we are having the control surface cosmetically re-finished on the synth which includes re-spraying and re-screen printing etc. Once finished this instrument is going to look, and feel to play, like a brand new synth.

The (1972-74) Mk1 Odyssey is said to be the most sought after version of the Odyssey family of synths, certainly a very pretty machine. The Mk1 features the 4023 super smooth 2 pole filter which keeps the bass intact when the resonance is cranked right up – a cracking sounding synth! This Mk1 has also had the CV/Gate/Trig/Filter input modification implemented (along the back-plane of the synth) which is a very useful upgrade.

Although this is a Brokered sale, the synth is being fully restored pre-sale due to the time it takes to undertake these kinds of project restorations. The full cosmetic/operational restoration is being carried out now and will take a couple of months to complete but the synth can be reserved at any time.

This Mk1 Odyssey is sold with a 3 month warranty and runs on EU 220V.

Guide Price Post-Restoration: £3290 to £3390 GBP.

Availability: This Mk1 Odyssey is now SOLD as at 23rd December 2013.

Library picture supplied below, but high-res pictures of the actual synth will be available post-restoration

Rhodes Chroma

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our customer

Came into stock: 1st August 2013

Restoration Status: KSR to service once sold, and prior to shipping to the new owner.

Remarks: We’re are delighted, and honored, to be able to offer you another Rhodes Chroma from our current stock list. This particular example being customer owned, is in excellent and all original condition throughout.

Unlike our other Chroma for sale on th RL Music website, this customer owned machine does NOT have the CC+ CPU upgrade so is priced accordingly, but the restoration work we commit to in preparing these machines for sale remains the same regardless.

The key to restoring one of these fabulous instruments is finding a good quality example in the first place, and our customer machine qualifies beautifully. This superb example will be subjected to an extensive restorative overhaul, both cosmetically and operationally, to produce something similar to the library shot you can see below from a previous restoration we did. KSR, our synth restorers, will also fit a brand new 5 volt PSU to the system thus providing rock solid stability for the CPU and other critical functions of the Chroma system etc.

The Chroma is a very well loved and supported vintage model within the synth community. Chris Ryan has an excellent website dedicated to the model which has been a, excellent source of knowledge and support generally: rhodeschroma.com

As with all Brokered Sales, the synth will be fully restored post-sale before it’s sent to its new owner. We do this to ensure that the instrument leaves us in perfect operational condition, and it is backed up by our full warranty to give the new owner complete peace of mind. The servicing is carried out as a priority once the the sale has been completed, and although it will delay shipping/delivery by a short time, we know from experience that customers are happy to wait.

This Rhodes Chroma is sold with a 3 month warranty and has been converted to operate on EU 220V.

Guide Price Post-Restoration: £4500 GBP.

Availability: This Rhodes Chroma is now SOLD as at 22nd May 2014.

Library picture supplied below from previous Chroma we restored, but high-res pictures of the actual synth will be available post-restoration

Minimoog #8230

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our customer

Came into stock: 1st August 2013

Restoration Status: KSR to restore once sold, and prior to shipping to the new owner.

Remarks: An excellent condition mid-series production version Minimoog (made around 1977) owning a serial number of 8230. This make this vintage Moog over 36 years old!

A note on the restoration:

We use all the original cosmetic components (no new cabinets or metalwork) and do not change any electronic components that would compromise the integrity of the iconic Minimoog character. The synth is complete dissembled and stripped down to bear wood and then the cabinet is re-stained and finished to a very high standard as you can see from the library pictures from previous project restorations. There might be some components that we will replace due to age like PSU capacitors, trim-pots and some Op Amps etc but these are mostly off-the-shelf components. The Keyboard is completely stripped and rebuilt with a full set of new bushings and the final calibration and test ensures the Moog will be the best you can find. The finished product is stunning cosmetically and 100% perfect operationally and good for another 36 years at least.

Guide Price Post-Restoration: £4130 GBP.

Availability: This Minimoog is now SOLD as at 2nd October 2013.

Yamaha CS60

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our customer

Came into stock: 22nd January 2014

Restoration Status: KSR to service once sold, and prior to shipping to the new owner.

Remarks: This beautiful vintage synthesizer is in pristine condition – all front panel surfaces, wood surround and tolex in excellent condition. This is a ‘home only’ used instrument, so kept and used in a gentle environment which is clearly reflected in the condition.

The CS60 is a 8 note polyphonic system with velocity, after-touch and a ribbon
controller which offers the player a really organic feel into the performance of the instrument. Other key real-time control facilities, such as the LFO/ring-modulator section really make the CS60 a great players instrument – it’s all about the performance with the big CS polys.

The resonant qualities of the Yamaha CS series filter are unmatched by any other polysynth so they sound unique.

The CS60 shares the same architecture of the CS80 (including memories) which is why it offers an excellent way to dial into the CS80 sound potential for a awful lot less money.

This exceptional synthesizer will be fully serviced and calibrated by our tech, and Mr CS80 himself – Kent at KSR, prior to sale. This stunning CS60 will represent an excellent investment and an everyday useable machine for any musician looking for a unique sound

Runs on 110V but can be converted to EU 220V upon request.

As with all Brokered Sales, the synth will be fully serviced post-sale before it’s sent to its new owner.

Korg PS3100

It’s been quite a while since we have one of these wonderful synths in stock and we managed to find this from a UK seller who had owned it for some 20 years. They had not used for most of that time so stored it safely. That’s a good thing in some respects as it’s completely original and untampered with so a solid base to start the restoration from.

Our restoration work on this instrument started in August 2012 with a complete strip-down by KSR and the old (worn out) cabinet being taken up to Ross Lamond, of Lamond Design. We commissioned Ross to hand-build a replacement solid Walnut cabinet (no expense spared) and the results have been sublime. In the meantime, Kent at KSR spent around 6 weeks meticulously overhauling the synth so that, once the hand-made cabinet had arrived, he could marry the electronics & Walnut enclosure together and go through final testing etc.

This was a detailed and time consuming restoration but the results speak for themselves. The synth works beautifully and looks like new.

The PS3100 is a fully polyphonic synthesizer that uses divide-down technology to great effect. Much has been written about it’s fabled Resonator but it’s much more than just about that. Features such an ensemble, temperament adjust for each Oscillator and being semi-modular as well makes this a powerful instrument, and In skilled hands this is a very creative tool indeed. The PS3100 has to be one of the most wonderfully ambient & rich sounding polyphonic synths ever made.

This Korg PS3100 is sold with a 3 month warranty and can operate on EU 220V & US 110V.

Price: £5500 UK Pounds

Availability: This Korg PS3100 is now SOLD as at 21st July 2014.

Yamaha CS70M

Came into stock: Due at RL Music late June 2013

Restoration Status: KSR will undertake full restoration once in receipt of instrument from RL Music in early July.

ETR (estimated time from restoration): September 2013

Remarks: We’re excited to be able to get hold of this super condition CS70M as they really are quite magnificent synths for a whole number of reasons. These were proper old-school designed analogue systems made in the early 80s, and it wasn’t long after these came out that the DX7 was introduced, which seems hard to believe really.

The CS70M has for many people been overlooked, or perhaps overshadowed by it’s bigger brother – the CS80, but time is a funny thing and we think this synth is about to become highly sought after.

6 Voice, dual channel (stereo), aftertouch, 30 memories, ring-mod, fully programmable and with a 4 channel polyphonic sequencer…sweet!

Those in the know will already tell you that this is one of the finest analogue polys ever made, and a work of audio art in its own right. It shares much of the same technology at the CS80 and many of the characteristics and tonal qualities as well. The other big ‘Hello’ is also the fact you can get really close to the CS80 sound for a lot less money…this makes it even more appealing.

There are a few demos on YT of these but we like this rather ambient-noodling one from ‘MoreAnalog’ because it demonstrates nicely how the CS70M has the CS80 vibe we are talking about: “Yamaha CS70M – an amazing legend”

Guide Price Post-Restoration: £ – to be confirmed

Availability: This CS70M is now SOLD on deposit, as at 24th June 2013.

Arp Odyssey Mk3C

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our customer

Came into stock: Arrived at RL Music in mid-May 2013

Servicing Status: Full service by KSR will commence post-sale.

Remarks: If you are after the Arp Odyssey Sound, need MIDI but don’t need a keyboard then this customised Mk3 is the one for you.

This is actually a fantastic modification and we have never seen one done like this before. Our customer, the current owner, said he bought it like it is now but the work was clearly done by a professional in the past as the MIDI is full spec and the audio-out is by XLR only.

Made to look like an Arp 2600, this now desktop synth is a perfect musicians tool and the overall condition is very good, but cosmetically it’s got some wear. Having said that, this has been modified to work perfectly with a DAW or any MIDI keyboard, so it’s an every-day useable synth, and sounds perfectly like a MK3 Arp Odyssey.

Runs on EU 220V.

As with all Brokered Sales, the synth will be fully serviced post-sale before it’s sent to its new owner. We do this to ensure that the instrument leaves us in perfect operational condition, and it is backed up by our full warranty to give the new owner complete peace of mind. Oberheim Xpander

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our customer

Came into stock: Arrived at RL Music in mid-May 2013

Servicing Status: Full service by KSR will commence post-sale.

Remarks: Much has been written on these incredible synthesizers and its understandable when you use them as they really can deliver a thick analogue wall of sound, and are perfect pad and brass sources just for starters.

The Xpander lineage includes the Matrix 6 and 12, and is a fully midi configured, 6 voice Polysynth – an excellent addition to any analogue set-up and has to be heard to be believed. he Xpander offers a deep programmable architecture for those of you into tweaking but can also be very user friendly hands-on preset machine. This means they sit between that digital and analogue medium perfectly and are arguably the best of the hybrid technology of the early to mid 1980’s.

This Oberheim Xpander has come to us from a long standing RL Music customer who is downsizing his synth collection, which is all in fantastic condition. We’re very pleased to be able to offer this wonderful synthesizer as a Brokered deal, and we will be fully servicing it and selling it with a 3 month warranty.

Yamaha DX7

We are Brokering this Mk1 Yamaha DX7 for, and on behalf of, a long standing UK customer

Came into stock: In stock and available – 16th May 2013.

Restoration Status: Recently fully serviced in Q1 2013.

Remarks: The legendary Mk1 DX7 has seen quite a strong rise in popularity in recent years and drifted positively back into peoples conciseness.

The Mk1 is built like a tank, which is a throw back to the old analogue days when synths were made to a very high quality. This is a truly mass-produced instrument by any standards but even after 30 years still feel fresh to the touch, at least this example does. The sound of the DX7 is familiar but surprisingly dynamic and exciting, and knowing this single model changed at least a generation of popular music is actually wonderous.

As you can see from the customer supplied pictures, this DX7 is in super condition and is supplied with its original manual.

This particular example was very recently fully serviced by KSR so in 100% perfect operational condition. Runs US 110V & EU 220V Voltage.

Yamaha DX5

We are Brokering this Yamaha DX5 for, and on behalf of, a long standing UK customer

Came into stock: In stock and available – 16th May 2013.

Restoration Status: Recently fully serviced in Q1 2013.

Remarks: The DX5 packs some serious bi-timbric synthesis power, and even by todays standards is a serious pice of kit, and sounds massive!

Operationally speaking, the DX5 is very close to the mighty DX1 but without the real estate and some performance features, which means it’s affordable for most people. This was Yamaha’s intention when it was released in 1985 as a professional grade instrument.

These models are quite hard to find these days in anything approaching decent condition so when our customer purchased this example he was after something at the top end of the quality scale.

From the customer supplied pictures you can see that this DX5 is in amazing condition, and it’s supplied with two ROM Cartridges.

This particular example was very recently fully serviced by KSR so in 100% perfect operational condition. Runs US 110V & EU 220V Voltage.

Ensoniq VFX-SD

Came into stock:  April 2013

Servicing Status: Currently being serviced by KSR

ETR (estimated time from restoration): May 2013.

Remarks: The evolution of the Ensoniq Synthesizers from the ESQ-1 developed strongly into the VFX, which uses wavetable synthesis – like the PPG et al.

This model was a powerhouse of synth technology and even featured polyphonic aftertouch, inbuilt effects and 21 note polyphonic keyboard. Even by todays standards that’s impressive, although poly AT is exceptional!

Even if you don’t use the fantastic synth for its sounds (and why wouldn’t you?), you still have an excellent MIDI keyboard controller for your soft-synths, and it transmits Poly AT & velocity.

Operates on EU 220V and sold with a 3 month warranty.

We reluctantly sold our own ‘in-house’ Elka Synthex back in April last year which we considered to be the best condition Mk3 example we had ever seen. This Synthex now in stock surpasses even our own machine and will represent a fine instrument for anyone looking for the best condition example in the world.
