Remarks: This Jupiter 6 (serial # 333020) was purchased by our client some years ago and is only ever used in the home.  The cosmetic condition is excellent, and the whole synth only shows light indications of use with some marks to the panels, which we hope the photos provided will show, but this is a high-quality 40 years old vintage instrument.

The Jupiter 6 has been a hugely popular polysynth since it arrived in 1983. It offers aficionados that beautiful vintage polyphonic analogue Roland sound for a very reasonable cost compared to its sibling, the Jupiter 8.  Prices for these models in recent years have seen a significant uplift as vintage polysynths are getting rarer and rarer to find in good condition.

Our client, the owner of the synth, purchased it in 2005 from a UK seller, and this being a 240V machine would suggest it’s always been in the UK, so not an import. The JP6 has never been gigged, and the cosmetic condition stands as a testament to it being exceptionally well cared for throughout its 40 years since manufacture. 

This JP6 has the hugely popular Europa Modification implemented, which expands the capability of this already superb vintage polysynth; we also have printed copies of the Europa User manuals, which we will supply upon sale to the new owner. Additionally, the original aluminium end-cheeks have been overlayed with retro-style hardwood wood pieces, which are in excellent shape.  This ‘bolt-on’ cosmetic mod can be removed if unwanted, but it’s something we have seen on a few JP6, and it either adds or subtracts to the synth, which depends on your viewpoint.

Remarks: 

The TR-909 is simply a classic sounding analogue drum machine and used by a huge array of top artists with thousands of reviews on-line so we’re not going to tell you anything new here. Most professional musicians we know have at least 2 or even 3 of these machines and they usually get very heavy studio and live use which is a testament to the rugged, stable and reliable design from Roland in the mid 80s.

Our client has owned this TR-909 for a few years having rescued it from a secondary school music department clearcut as it was marked for being thrown out, so we’d say that was a really very good save and result.

MIDI was fitted as standard by Roland on these models.

This TR-909 is fully operational and the cosmetic presentation (see pictures below) is very good with some marks/wear and signs of it age (39+ years), and the name of the school was etched into the base of the machine but it’s not visible when in use. Also, someone has used indelible pen indicating that the unit is fully earthed….good to know.

This is a good honest example that works perfectly and very recently has recently had a full service and battery fitted, and the price has been agreed with our client to reflect the condition, so is the best value TR-909 available in the world right now, being sold from a specialist dealer.

Service Status: 

A full service was carried out by Ben Rossborough at Cyberwave EMS in November 2023, including it being retrofitted with the 80017A VCF VCA Juno-106 voice chip Filter IC clones from Analogue Renaissance.

Remarks: 

Without any doubt a true vintage synth and a very useable and practical analogue polysynth keyboard for live use as well as studio.  The is among the first factory fitted MIDI synths from Roland in the early 80s, and with its on-board effects (chorus) and a really warm 24db/Oct filter, it sounds (and is) really retro whilst the DCO’s provide strong tuning stability.

The more advanced MIDI control on the 106 (SysEx) means you can use external patch-editors (Mac & PC) although in truth it’s not all that complex to program from the front panel…which is a big part of the joy of owing a vintage synth like this.

Background:

Our client purchased this many years ago, and the Juno 106 had only ever been used at his home but they now work abroad so the synth had been stored away for some time. It was recently sent over to Ben at Cyberwave for a full service as it had been stored for a while, and the full suite of brand new VCF/VCA installed as mentioned above, so it’s a  good to go.

Background:

Our client purchased this Schmidt 8-Voice in December 2017, and as the instrument was built to order for them, they took delivery of it on 21st September 2018. It has resided in a home studio since then and kept under a dust cover when not in use, so is in as-new condition with actually very little use. Our client confessed that due to demands of running his own business, he has not had much time to actually play the Schmidt, and feels it should go to someone else who can get better use from it.

It was originally shipped from Schmidt securely contained within a custom flight-case, and our client had retailed that, so the instrument will be supplied with this case as part of the sale.

We have a copy of the original sale s receipt which might be available to the new owner, subject to our clients approval as it does contain personal details of course, but this forms part of the instruments provenance.

Remarks: A good all original condition Yamaha DX-1, which we have previously sold to the current owner but they are now Brokering it back through us for re-sale.

What is there to say on this 1983 flagship synthesizer that has not already been written, but it’s a very rare machine with only 140 reported to have ever been manufactured, so a really unique find in 2023. Classic Gear -The Yamaha DX1: Owning and Recreating the King of FM

Cosmetic Condition:

The overall condition of this example is very good, with the normal amount of wear we would expect to see on a synth this age, size and quality. We sold this DX-1 to our EU customer, so it was shipped out of the UK against the original sale and then was re-imported in May this year, having been sent straight to Kent Spong at KSR for some servicing, where the instrument currently resides. 

The photos below were taken at KSR, so are un-doctored and show the overall presentation.

Operational Condition:

The following declaration is made in good faith and is an honest account of the current operational condition of this example.  

All the controls, LEDs, functions of the control panel work as they should, so LED buttons are all operational.  However,  Bank A Voice 5 button feels slightly different to operate than the others which suggests the component is faulty, but it does function, although it can be intermittent. We are not aware of a replacement for this part as it would appear to be a DX-1 specific component but we are declaring this as a known issue.

The LDC display is fully working with all segments showing properly and brightness is perfectly readable.  The volume LED indicator on the right hand side, next to where to says ‘DX-1  ’ on the front panel has one of the tiny LED segments that is dimmer than all the rest (the 14db) and one that does not work (the 96 db) – I’ve attached a photo I took when we had it set up in the workshop .

The sliders top the right of the instrument all work correctly.

The modulation and pitch-wheel both operate correctly.

The DX- sound engine itself operates correctly.  There are some classic ‘DX’ patches loaded in the system, I did try to edit some sounds and all the edit functions were available are working, although I didn’t save those changes.

The professional weighted 73 note wood keyboard was fully working in terms of triggering notes, and the velocity was 100% working across all keys.

The Polyphonic After-Touch (Poly-AT) is not operating at more than 30% of the keyboard. Kent has gone though each key to check the after-touch sensors and there are many that simply are not working.  Kent at KSR does not currently have any supply for replacements, so this is not something Kent has a resolution for, but the owner is aware and this is factored into the sale price.

In consulting with Kent at KSR on the reality on getting the Poly-AT system fully restored, as I know this would be of interest to any potential buyer,  Kent told me that every DX-1 he had seen had similar issues as there are no replacement parts for the Poly-AT sensors at present.  He said that in the last 6 years he had serviced two DX-1 owned by MI professionals, and both those machines also had significant Poly-AT sensor failures, so it would seem to be consistent with the age of these machines.  I personally would be very suspicious of anyone selling a DX-1 stating that the Poly-AT system was 100% based on this reality.

Summary:

We have seen people advertising the Yamaha DX-1 from £60,000 to nearly £150,000 GBP in recent years, which is eye-watering, but with such a small production run plus is being such an historic instrument with A-list users like Dire Straits and Michael Jackson et al, it’s not hard to understand why people might value them this high.  With the declared operational condition of this particular DX-1 in mind, we have agreed with our Client, the owner, to price this example much more realistically. The price below is not subject to VAT in the UK as this is a commission sale but it might be subject to import duties in your own country, if you are purchasing outside the UK.

This DX-1 has multiple power settings so it’s able to operate in any country around the world without he need for any external power-supplies to step-up or down. We will also supply  a PDF copy of the owners manual.

Remarks: A beautiful condition Roland Jupiter 8 (12bit model) – Serial Number: 161512, which has been retrofitted with a Groove MIDI kit.

We are always very happy to sell any Jupiter 8 and this one is an excellent representative example that has MIDI as well. What can we say that hasn’t already been written about the JP8…honestly, nothing new.  However, we’ve seen relative values for this flagship vintage analogy poly-synth climb sharply in recent years, so they’ve become unaffordable to most people, which is a real shame.

The overall condition is excellent, with far less than he normal amount of wear we would expect to see on a synth this age, so this example has been very well cared for throughout its existence. The photos below tell the story, but even the base of this JP8 is in great shape.

We discussed the price at some length with our client and agreed keep the sale price as reasonable as is possible for this model, so we think you will find this cheaper by far than any currently available JP8 for sale in the world right now, in comparable condition, with MIDI, fully serviced and sold with a guarantee.

Remarks: Much has been written on these incredible synthesizers and it’s understandable when you use them as they really can deliver a thick analogue wall of sound, and are perfect pad and brass sources just for starters.

The Xpander lineage includes the Matrix 6 and 12 and is a fully midi configured, 6 voice Polysynth – an excellent addition to any analogue set-up and has to be heard to be believed. he Xpander offers a deep programmable architecture for those of you into tweaking but can also be a very user-friendly hands-on preset machine.  This means they sit between that digital and analogue medium perfectly and are arguably the best of the hybrid technology of the early to mid-1980s.

This example is a USA built unit that works perfectly, and as mentioned above, has just been fully serviced by KSR.  The cosmetic condition is excellent, as you can see from the pictures below, with only minimal wear and marks to the painted surfaces.

This Oberheim Xpander has come to us from a private owner who purchased this from new in 1986, so it’s a single owner machine. 

The Xpander runs on US115~230V (switchable), is supplied with an IEC cable with UK-plug fitted and photocopy of the June 1984 user manual by Daniel Soferan. In addition, an original factory presets cassette is also supplied.

Remarks: The classic rack polysynth combo is considered by many enthusiasts to be one of the best sounding vintage analogue rack-synths ever.

The MKS-80 Super Jupiter is powerful velocity and pressure sensitive 8 voice/16 VCO analogue polysynth with that big vintage Roland sound, and a stack of modulation and editing facilities.  The accompanying MPG80 controller is an essential piece of kit if you want to really dig down into the programming and open up the synth’s capabilities, and is a joy to use.

This unit (Serial #633634) is the much sought after Rev.5 version of the MKS-80 (see PCB picture below) featuring the Roland IR3R03 VCO and VCF/VCA IR3R05 chipset, amongst other architectural differences to the earlier versions.  Many say the Rev.5 comes closest to sounding like the Jupiter 8, but we’ll leave that debate to the internet to continue.

The cosmetic condition of this MKS-80 is outstanding, with only very light markings in evidence that this rack-synth has been very well looked after by our Client, whom has owned this instrument around 22 years, and only ever used in his home.

The MKS-80 work perfectly and contains many of their original patches, and they’re simple to set up in your studio and get to work with straight out of the box.

Remarks: The demand for high-quality examples of the world’s most famous drum machine never relents, so we were delighted to be able to offer this good condition TR-808 with MIDI.

Our client has owned this TR-808 since 2018, having purchased it then from a reputable UK vintage synth dealer, so it had been fully serviced and prepared for sale at that time, and the dealer also fitted a MIDI-in modification for our client, through the TR-808 Din-Sync socket at back of the unit, although the switch next to the socket still provides the option to just use the Din-Sync if preferred. 

Our client purchased the Stardust cover, so this is supplied in the sale.

Remarks: 

It’s not often that digital synths make it into the ‘vintage’ club, but the JD-800 has long been recognised as one of those machines that really stood out. We think it was not just the sound engine but the control surface that pandered to our need for dedicated access to functions other than all the usual menu-diving synths made in the 90s, so this was a huge appeal.

Background:

Our client purchased this JD-800 in the last 90s, although it’s hardly been used in the last 10+ years, so he commissioned KSR to fully refurbish the synth, which covered the key-bed issues these models suffer with. The synth was never used outside the home and comes supplied with the M-512E Memory Card (512K).

Condition:

The cosmetic condition of the outer plastic case in general, all control surfaces and the keys is very good, with just some small signs of reasonable wear for a 30-year-old synth.  You can see from the pictures that this JD-800 is fully 100% intact. All its original knobs & slider caps are present, and the key-bed has had the well-documented ‘glue’ residue issue fixed by KSR.  

The JD-800 is a EU220V version, and we will supply the synth with an EU-type 2-Pin cable that Roland used for these.

Remarks: This Jupiter 6 was purchased by our client some years ago and is only ever used in the home.  The cosmetic condition is excellent, and the whole synth only shows very light indications of use & ware – this is remarkable for a keyboard nearly 40 years old!

Remarks: This more modern analogue synth, although over two decades old now (vintage yet?), has some serious curb appeal and could never be accused of lacking facility or punch.

The A6 is an inspired design by Alesis, but with production ceasing some years ago, the synth achieved cult status amongst synthesists, so another great synth for the halls of fame and used by too many artists to list.

The current owner has owned the A6 for only a few short years and only ever used it at home (smoke & pet free etc.), so the cosmetic and operational condition of the A6 is pristine. We sold this A6 to our customer back in 2018, so we know this machine’s quality is very high.

Our customer purchased one of the excellent quality Stardust synth covers for the A6 (pictured below), which is included in the sale.

Remarks: The demand for high-quality examples of the world’s most famous drum machine continues to grow, so we were delighted to be able to offer this outstanding condition TR-808. 

Our client has owned this beautiful condition TR-808 for several years and had it fully serviced a few years ago by KSR who also retrofitted the Kenton MIDI kit into it. Kent at KSR has just given the drum machine a full health check so it’s all ready for its new owner.  It also comes with the perspex overlay, which is showing its age now but it’s done a fine job of protecting the panel.

Plenty has been said & written about this iconic instrument, and the significant number of clones/copies, and even Roland’s TR08, are all made in homage to the iconic status that the original machines hold.  It sounds great of course and is one of those ‘must-have’ instruments if you’re serious about your vintage analogue sound.

The operational condition is flawless, and as you can see in the high-res pictures below, the cosmetic condition is fabulous with only a tiny amount of any noticeable wear, which for an instrument that’s now 40+ years old is quite something.

We present the rare and rather epic Memorymoog (standard Mk1 version), in excellent cosmetic condition and was previously sold to our client after it had been fully overhauled to top operational condition in 2017.

Background:

Our client purchased this Memorymoog from RL Music in late 2017 and had a Kenton MIDI retrofit kit added to it at that time.  The Moog has been used only in a home studio since then and had been back to KSR for a check over and calibration.

Condition:

Although no cosmetic restoration has been carried out other than deep-cleaning to all the exterior surfaces, the cosmetic condition is 100% original and excellent, as you can see from the pictures below.

Being an ex-RL Music restored Memorymoog, we are proud to see this instrument looking so beautiful and perfectly working, so a testament to the investment made into its preparation 5 years ago.

Health-Check & Servicing:

KSR has already full assessed the Memorymoog for us before we put this up for sale, so we know it’s in perfect working order, but we will have another health check carried out post-sale, which will add around 14 days to the post-sale completion. A full system-wide operational restoration by KSR was carried out in 23rd August 2017.

Remarks: 

The consumer version of the Juno 106, has been gaining popularity in recent years simply due to the price point on the 106 having gone up so much.  The HS-60 is architecturally identical to the Juno 106 (aside from the speakers obviously), so for the savings against the 106 it’s looks like a good deal in 2022.

Produced around 1985, the HS-60 is a 6 voice DCO based polysynth that sounds the same as a Juno 106, which is a really good thing as the 106 is a super sounding vintage synth.  It all comes with MIDI.

Background:

Our client purchased this HS-60 only a few years ago, and the Roland has only been used at his home.  It had previously been retrofitted with the 80017A VCF VCA Juno-106 voice chip Filter IC clones from Analogue Renaissance, so it’s all been sorted.

Condition:

The cosmetic condition is excellent, but check out pour photo’s to verify that.  addressed then.

Operationally it’s 100%, but we will have KSR fully check the HS-60 post-sale and any service items needed will be addressed.
