Remarks: 

We present a fabulous opportunity to own a stunning condition late production version Arp 2600 that comes partnered with its companion keyboard controller, the 3620. In addition, this beautiful 2600 is complete with the 1621 Sequencer. This iteration of 2600 represent the final production version, often referred to as the ‘Black & Orange,’ or 2601 v2.0 (possible v3.0)

This production version contains the post-lawsuit Moog 4072 style filter. This instrument is at least 43 years old (likely built in 1979).

Background:

Our client purchased this Arp 2600/3602 and 1621 Sequencer together brand new from Chase Music in Manchester on 16th January 1980 – we have the original sales receipt, although will not publish this as it contains personal data, but it will be provided to the buyer of this Arp combo. The provenance is therefore perfect for this 43+ year old equipment. 

Our client had assembled a modest & much valued vintage synth collection over the years, all of which we have the honour for selling for him as he has made the difficult decision to let these instruments pass to new owners/custodians. These beauty vintage Arp instruments have all been cherished, played & enjoyed only ever at home, during his 43 years of ownership.

Servicing:

As mentioned in the introduction, the Arp 2600 Synth, 3602 Keyboard and 1621 Sequencer, all went through a complete professional service by Jim McKenna Singing Cat Services in April/May 2023, as part of the pre-sale diligence in getting it ready for sale and be in top operational condition for the new owner. Also, our client had James Walker at Synth Repair Services carry out a minor service service on the 2600 on 18th April 2016. We have the original receipt so will provide this to the new owner pos-sale but again, we will not publish this online as it contains personal data,

Condition:

We consider all three instructs to be in outstanding condition, stunning, but you can decide yourself by looking at the pictures below. As province goes it does not get any better than a single owner instruments, and they are all 100% completely original machines, so no mods, so true survivors and highly collectable like this.

The Tolex covering on both the synth and keyboard is in exception condition with only some tine blemishes in places, and the nick plated fixtures and fitting are all present and have the expect patine for an instrument of this age. The console surfaces for both instruments is exemplary and all the original control knobs and slider caps are present.

The 1621 Sequencer is also in absolutely top cosmetic condition, probably the very best example we have seen, and is also equipped with all it’s original slider caps and program buttons, which are so bright and white they look like new!

Accessories Included:

Included with the sale of the Arp 2600 & 1621 Sequencer is an assortment of cables, 12 in all of differing lengths, which will get you started with you patching. The only proviso on these OE cables are that they are at least 43years old so may not be reliable. We do not cover these parts under any warranty against defects, so we would recommend you purchase some new 3.5mm cables for a more reliable operation as we consider these parts as consumables in real terms.

In addition to the patching cables,  there are 2 foot-pedals included, one is an OE Arp pedal and the other is a third-party device. As with the cables, we do not cover these items under warranty but they are included within the sale as a courtesy.

Health-Check:

As this Arp 2600 3260 & 1621 Sequencer were serviced in May this year, so all items does not need any further attention, but as part of our post-sale process, we will ask Kent Spong at KSR to carry out a health-check on the Arps once the sale has completed.  This will add a couple of weeks to the post-sale timeline.

Both the Arp 2600 & 1621 Sequencer operate on EU220V~UK240V. The 2600 comes with a proprietary power-cable that has a UK type plug fitted to it and the sequencer is supplied with a UK tyre IEC cable.

Remarks: This Roland Juno 60, JSQ-60 and Boss KM-60 were purchased by our client brand new (from our Client’s memory) around 1983 from a music shop based in Chelmsford, and all three items have only ever been used in the home.  The cosmetic condition is outstanding for all three machines, pristine and almost (if not) as-new condition. These are usable vintage instruments, so they have intrinsic value as such but the condition of this collection more than qualifies as something a collector would cherish.

We are going to try and sell this collection as a bundle for two reasons; 

Firstly as they were all bought together and have been used together for 40 years, so it would be ideal to not split them up if possible.

Secondly, as these actually all make excellent partners in terms of operating and mixing, especially with that stunning condition analogue keyboard mixer, the KM-60

The Juno 60

The design of the Juno 60 has to be one of the best Roland ever produced in terms of simplicity of sound design and warmth of character. The Juno 60 has been a ‘go-to’ synth for working musicians wanting that vintage sound for quite a while now.  It kind of defies logic that a DCO synth could deliver such a lush and musical tone, and it won the hearts and minds of all synthesists who’d had the opportunity to own or play one. 

This is, we feel, the cleanest all original example we have had through our business, with the buttons and keys so clean and white, it’s like looking at a brand new machine. Included in the sale is the original Roland Patch Program Data Cassette and owner’s manual.

This synth sounds and operates like all Juno 60 should, and KSR has fully serviced the synth, so it’s 100% working perfectly and good to go.  Aside from the DCB Port, there is no modern MIDI retrofit to this example, but as it’s in such beautiful original condition it would be such a shame to drill holes into the pristine metal panel.  Kenton still produces a Pro-DCB MIDI converter, so we would recommend going this route to maintain the originality for MIDI functionality, but if you must have a more sophisticated MIDI access then please call and speak to us about what options are available and costs etc.

The price has been agreed with our client to reflect the outstanding condition as we both recognise this to be a vastly superior quality example to what most people are trying to sell online around the world. 

The Juno JSQ-60

This was Roland’s solution to a dedicated polyphonic sequencer for the Juno 60, which connects via the proprietary DCB port on the synth from a Roland sequencer. A useful 2000-step unit that’s simple to use and an effective partner for its time.

As you can see from the photos, the unit comes still contained within its original EO retail packaging. The cosmetic condition is excellent with only tiny areas showing any imperfections, and we have provided some photos below that show all angles of the sequencer so you can get a feel for it’s overall quality.

KSR has fully serviced the synth, so it’s 100% working perfectly and good to go, and we have purchased a brand new 9V DC 1A external power supply (UK model) for this, which is included in the price.

The Boss KM-60 6-Channel Analogue Mixer

A very well-known and sought-after analogue mixer that Boss produced in the late 1970s. It’s a stereo 6-channel machine that offers onboard EQ, effects send and panning,  some lovely VU-meters and a beautiful aesthetic that fits perfectly with the Juno-60 and JSQ-60.  There’s a lot of love for this little mixer, we used to own one back in the day so know it well and have fond memories of our ownership. Certainly, you can buy a lot more ‘mixer’ these days, but period-correct equipment has a unique appeal and the KM-60, especially in this condition, is very much collectable and only set to become more desirable as the years go by.

As you can see from the pictures, it’s is fantastic cosmetic condition with only the smallest evidence that tells you this mixer is over 40 years old.

KSR have fully serviced the mixer, cleaned all the potentiometers and jack-sockets and re-capped the PSU, so it’s 100% working perfectly.  We all know that mixers impart a lot of character to the tone of the instruments used through them, and the KM-60 was produced with the Roland product set being sold at that time in mind, so the Juno-60 is the perfect partner for it. Its a trackable mixer but this example has never been used that was so is completely unblemished…stunning.

In Summary:

The Juno 60, JSQ-60 and KM-60 are all sold through RL Music with a 3-month warranty and operate on EU/UK 220v~240v. 

Our client, the owner, also provided original printed copies of the Juno-60 Owners Manual and the JSQ-60 Owners Manual, although the latter shows some historic water damage to the paper. 

The Juno-60 and KM-60 use a hard-wired flex that terminates to a UK-style 3-pin plug. They are able to operate within the EU without any external power-regulation transformers, although your own country-type plug would need to be fitted. The JSQ-60 operated from a brand new 9V DC 1A external power supply (UK plug-type version).

Service Status: 

Full service by KSR was carried out in Summer 2021, but a health check will be carried out post-sale.

Remarks: 

First released in 1987,  The Emulator III was the benchmark, state of the art pro-sampler/synthesizer/workstation.  This was a very expensive bit of high-end kit that was used by all the major artists of the day.  Fully utilised for integration with ‘Macintosh’ computers equipped with MIDI, SMPTE, SCSI etc.  Yes, we’ve all moved on from SCSI, and we use DAWs mainly for digital sequencing now, but this was a serious machine for serious musicians in the 80s and was used on countless hit records. 

Winding forward 35+ years, the Emulator III sampler/synth/workstation is still a revered machine, sounds superb with its 16 Curtis 3387 analogue filters, and for aficionados of this genre of equipment, is highly collectable.

Background:

Our client, the owner of this Emulator III, purchased it from a dealer in the USA a few years ago and then wanted to have it fully optimised with a brand new Nalbantov USB floppy disk drive emulator with library installed, a new OLED display and the 4Mb Ram card upgraded to 8Mb so these upgrades are included. 

Condition:

The cosmetic condition is excellent with just some tiny signs of wear to the case & control surfaces.  You can see from the pictures we took that this example is full 100% intact, and in really super condition overall.

Health-Check & Servicing:

As mentioned above, this Emulator III has been through the hands of Kent at KSR back in the summer of 2021, but we will have this fully checked again and any service items needed will be applied, but the PSU was recently re-capped & OLED Display fitted (2021).  Please allow at least 2 to 3 weeks delay once the EIII is sold before we can effect a hand-over to the new owner, or ship it etc.

The EIII operates on either US110V or EU220V. A UK type IEC cable will be supplied in the sale.

Remarks:

A really fantastic condition example of the ‘luxury’ version of this classic mono synth – EDP’s Wasp Deluxe, manufactured from 1979 to 1981. The Wasp sounds thick and creamy and is undoubtedly a design classic, and so much so that a well-known synth manufacturer is building clones by the thousands in 2022. In addition, the Wasp comes with the original companion, EDP Spider Sequencer, so this has to be a collector’s dream.

The Deluxe version of the Wasp basically provided the owner with a more traditional wood cabinet, larger speaker and a proper 37-note keybed, so perhaps had more appeal to musicians that could actually play a keyboard rather than messing around with the touch-sensitive keyboard that came with the standard Wasp.

It’s rare to find these special editions, and they have become highly collectable.  The original EDP Wasp is a brilliant creation from Chris Huggett and brought analogue synthesis to many of us youngsters, who back in the late ’70s had little money to spend on our music passions.  We were very saddened to hear that Chris passed away on 22nd October 2020, another genius British synth designer gone.  Chris leaves us with a legacy that has already stood the test of time and popularity into the 21st century. Any of us could only dream of achieving so much.

The Spider Sequencer is also a super rare find and a super addition to the Wasp synth.  This is a 256-note step and 84-note real-time sequencer which interfaces with the EDP Wasp or Gnat. There are controls for entering notes in step/real-time and transposing sequences by semi-tones, whole-tones, major-3rd, or perfect-5th, as well as control for speed. It also has CV/Gate outputs for connecting it to other synths.

Background:

Our client has owned this Wasp Deluxe & Spider Sequencer since new, and looking at the condition of both units; we’d say that they were cherished and very well looked after.

Cosmetically, both machines are in outstanding condition, and as KSR has just completed a detailed service, they are 100% fully functional.

This Wasp Deluxe & Spider both operate via external 9V DC PSUs, of which two have been supplied by our client. The seq-to-synth interconnect cable has also been supplied. In addition, there is an original EDP Wasp user manual, which has to be collectable on its own!

Our client has asked us not to split the Wasp & Spider as they have been together for around 40 years, and we agree that it would be a shame to split them.

Servicing Status: KSR have already carried out a full service on this A6 in July 2022;

Remarks: This more modern analogue synth, although over two decades old now (vintage yet?), has some serious curb appeal and could never be accused of lacking facility or punch.

The A6 is an inspired design by Alesis, but with production ceasing some years ago, the synth achieved cult status amongst synthesists, so another great synth for the halls of fame and used by too many artists to list.

The current owner has owned the A6 for only a few short years and only ever used it at home (smoke & pet free etc.), so the cosmetic and operational condition of the A6 is pristine. We sold this A6 to our customer back in 2018, so we know this machine’s quality is very high.

Our customer purchased one of the excellent quality Stardust synth covers for the A6 (pictured below), which is included in the sale.

Kent at KSR has gone through the A6, checking the power supply, the operational functions/switches, memory etc., and deep cleaning all the potentiometers, so there are no ‘jumping’ encoders, which is a known weakness of these machines.  As you can see from our photos, it’s cosmetically like new.

This Andromeda A6 is sold through RL Music with a 3-month warranty and can operate on US 110V or EU 220V. The A6 is supplied with an IEC power cable (UK 3-pin type).

Our UK client has kept the Serge in his home studio since purchase, and admitted themselves that it has had very little uses since it was purchased, so here’s a fantastic opportunity to get a professionally build system now, without all the wait and import hassles, and any VAT added for UK buyers.

Cosmetic Appraisal:

As you can see from the pictures, the 3-panel system is in ‘as-new condition and comes fully enclosed in a custom Gator flight case.  There’s not much to add here as it’s all in beautiful condition.

Also included in the sale is a substantial collection of used and brand-new (unopened) banana-jacks, un-racked multiples modules and the power supply, which has all the correct power-distribution board/connectors to run the individual panels.  

This Serge Modular operates on EU 220 via the external power supply (pictured below). The Serge is sold with a 3-month warranty.

Our client, the owner of this superb condition collection, originally purchased the OB-Xa from us in 2017, when we had fully restored it that year, so it’s been good to see this synth again.  Our client went to a lot of time, expense and trouble to subsequently source the DX and DSX machines from collectors, and was only ever interested in absolutely top condition examples.  All three machines have been located in our client’s home studio since he purchased them.

In addition, our client had made some very high-quality (branded) covers for the OB-Xa and DX Drum Machine.  The DSX also has the original proprietary interconnect cable to run the sequencer into the OB-Xa. We’ve included multiple pictures here to show all these items.

Condition:

The cosmetic condition is excellent with just some small signs of wear to the control surfaces and wood end-cheeks of all three machines.  You can also see from the pictures we took that all three instruments are fully 100% intact, so all have their original Oberheim knobs, faders etc.   

This OB-Xa is an 8 voice system that has the 120 program memory upgrade fitted, as well as a Kenton MIDI kit.

Health-Check & Servicing:

As mentioned above, this system has been through the hands of Kent at KSR as a pre-sales health check and everything was 100% operational, but we will have all three instruments fully checked again post-sale and any service items needed will be applied, but the OB-Xa was fully restored in 2017, as mentioned.

The OB-Xa & DSX operates on either US110V or EU220V, the DX is an EU voltage model. A UK type IEC cable will be supplied in the sale for all three machines. We also can produce a PDF copy of the user manual for the OB-Xa and DSX.

Remarks: A very rare opportunity to own what has to be one of the most impressive looking synths of its era (1980), the mighty Prophet 10 and this example comes with a MIDI retrofit.

We could never have imagined that we would have to say this, but this Prophet 10 is the vintage original model (there’s a clue in the pictures), so not the 2020 Dave Smith re-issue Prophet 5 with extra voicing.

Who wouldn’t have had their mind completely blown away when this came to the market in 1980, a twin keyboard mega-polysynth…just wow!  And, to add the cherry on top, it was a Prophet 5 (CEM based version) with 10 voices, and stackable.  So yes, it’s huge in every respect; footprint and that fabled Prophet sound.

The current owner, our client, has only owned this for a short time, having purchased it in the UK from a specialist vintage keys dealer in 2019 (not us) – it was sold to our client as a  fully serviced unit. KSR has fully health-checked the Prophet 10 for us and it all checks out fine (it was serviced properly), although the original micro-cassette that would have been used to store and recall the poly-sequences on those tiny magnetic tape cartridges, no longer works (very common). 

Cosmetic Appraisal:

Overall, this Prophet 10 is in very good condition but does show some normal signs of use and its age.  We have taken some septic pictures that highlight the most obvious blemishes, but we think it’s a nice example that would make anyone a very proud owner.

It must be true that time travel is possible because we have a vintage Pro-one sat here that looks like i’s just come from the Sequential Circuits production line in 

The Pro-One is a superb mono-synth, utilising the fabled Curtis CEM chip technology, like its bigger brother, the Prophet 5. A really great sounding vintage analogue synth and very flexible modulation routing capability and wonderful built-in arpeggio & 40 note sequencer. 

This Pro-One has come to us from our UK client who has owned it since new, having bought it in the early 1980s, so only one owner!  It comes with its original retail packaging and has a pristine copy of the owners manual.  The condition of the Pro-One can only be described as mint.  It’s immaculate, unmarked.

What can we add to the huge body of praise that you can find online for this super little mono-synths, it’s got heart, full of character, punchy, versatile…perfect.

To answer the obligatory question on these models, yes, this is (J-Wire) version, most were.  KSR has just fully serviced the synth, which included a new set of neoprene keyboard bushes, full calibration, re-cap of PSU, deep-clean of all pots, switches etc.  The synth was clean and in top condition, but age still plays its part in needing to maintain these instruments, so most of the servicing was minimal to ensure furniture continuity.  The wood end-cheeks were pristine, so di not need any treatment.

Remarks: Another EMS Synthi AKS, and very competitively priced!

The current owner has only owned this Synthi AKS from new and used it at home for home recording until around 1984 when it was stored away until KSR was commissioned to carry out a full service on the EMS to get it ready for sale through our Brokering Service.

The serial number is ‘ 4471KS,’ so Robin Wood at EMS is likely to have a manufacture date on this example, but it looks like an earlier production model.

Cosmetic Appraisal:

This AKS is in good all original (unmodified) condition, and although it shows some wear to the control surface, but it’s in keeping with an instrument of this age (around 45+ years old).  The Spartanite case is in good condition, and the nickel catches/hinges show a normal patina.  We have covered the key aspects instrument in the series of photos that KSR did for us, as you can see below, so we hope these candidly show the overall presentation of this Synthi AKS but if you need more then please just ask.

This is a good condition example of the model/type, perfectly working, but does show some signs of use and its age, so it’s no museum/collector’s piece, but the price has been set to reflect that. It’s important to understand that with dealer-supplied examples of the Synthi AKS being advertised for between £15K to £18K GBP these days, we know that the sales price for this example represents excellent value.

This EMS Synthi AKS did come from the owner with very worn Matrix pins, so we would recommend a full new set be purchased for this instrument for best results when patching it up, which we can still source from EMS directly for around £260 GBP.  You can specify if you would like these supplied with the instrument upon purchase.

Also included in the sale is the cinch-jones KS interconnect cable, the proprietary EMS power-cable, and three Presto-Patch blocks for the Presto-Patch fitted to this particular model.

The service by KSR covered all the critical items like replacement of old power-regulation caps, deep cleaning, and calibration, but In addition to the above, the following work can also be carried out by request. Remarks: We are Brokering this Analogue Solutions Vostok and Oberkorn Sequencer for our UK based client.  Both items have only had very light use at our clients home, so are in almost ‘as-new’ condition and fully operational.

Our client purchased the Vostok around 2010, so believes this is version 2,  and the sequencer is the Oberkorn 3 Version.  

There is a lot of information on the internet about these models, so we won’t go into any detail here, but these pure analogue instruments are beautifully made, boutique, buy Tom Carpenter of Analogue Solutions.  Tom builds some amazing instruments, and currently is offering an EMS Synthi 100 type, console synthesizer which blows our minds! You can fully appreciate the talent and love of analog synths with all of Tom’s creations.  The Vostok has a clear nod toward the Synthi A of course, but all the AS models are built to an exceptionally high standard and made to last.

Remarks: This particular example has been very well cared for throughout the time my client has owned it (since 1990), a testament to that is the beautiful cosmetic condition throughout, and only ever used in the home.

The operational condition of this particular example is 100% perfect. It was fully serviced by James Walker, a renown UK tech, in May 2019 (service receipt available). 

The cosmetic condition is stunning, so this would easily qualify as a collector’s piece, but it sounds so good it should be played every day, as well as just appreciated.

Remarks: We are brokering this very good condition example for a UK client who has owned it for 30+ years, although it’s not been in much use in recent times, so they have asked us to find a new custodian for it.

A very powerful mono synth from Yamaha’s ‘CS’ family, the CS30 is a remarkably flexible system, and although it takes a moment to get your mind around the programming logic, that’s certainly half the fun in mastering them. 

The CS30 is an extremely capable synthesizer with some excellent routing & shaping facilities, characterised by the fabled ‘CS series’ resonant filters which deliver a very musical tone. The sine wave on the VCOs can be set up to output one of the most potent basses we have ever heard from a mono synth, something not many people will appreciate. The built-in 8 step sequencer makes this synth unique in the CS series and is one of only a few vintage synths that featured this beneficial facility. There are a useful amount of inputs for control including CV/Gate so you can hook her up quickly to a Midi to CV converter. There is also an audio-in for running external signals through the synth, which is a nice touch.

This example is a Japanese market model, so runs on 100V. We can provide a step-down transformer if needed (subject to your requirements & quotation).

Remarks: A really beautiful condition example of one of the best looking and sounding hybrid analogue polysynth of its generation – The Arp Quadra.

Produced between 1978 to 1981, the Quadra was adopted by many of the great bands of that era, probably the most notable being Tony Banks of Genesis – it’s beautiful and distinctive sounds can be heard in many of their albums of that period.

As the name suggests, the Quadra is 4 instruments in one, so a Bass synth, Polysynth, Lead synth, and String synth..all of which it does exquisitely well, and the built-in phase-shifter is to die for.  This all adds up to make this ‘must-have’ vintage keyboard for any serious fan.

Our client has owned this Quadra for over 10 years and very well cared for in his home. They commissioned James Walker to fully operationally overhaul the Quadra in 2009, so it’s had one of the worlds best synth-techs apply his skills to bringing the Quadra up to full spec with the required re-capping, new keyboard-bushes and calibrations etc.  As mentioned above, we will ask KSR to fully health-check and apply any service actions required post-sale.

Cosmetically, this 38+ year-old vintage analogue polysynth is in fantastic conditions you can see from the photos, with only some signs of wear to the metal panel in places. The main control surface is in remarkable condition with all the controls (slider/keys) intact and all mylar membrane switches working perfectly. The leather end-cheeks are in super condition throughout, with just some light wear as you would expect for a device this age.

This Arp Quadra operates on EU 220V.  We do have a user manual (in PDF format).  As the instrument is being Brokered through RL Music, it will be sold with a full 3-month warranty and can be shipped worldwide.

Restoration Status: KSR to service once sold, and prior to shipping to the new owner.

Remarks: A truly exemplary condition example of the late version (Mk3) Elka Synthex – with the factory MIDI. We actually sold this beautiful example to the owner, our client, back in 2015, so it’s an ex-RL Music restored Synthex Mk3! Due to health reasons, our client has very reluctantly had to consider letting the Synthex go, so we collected in person from them, to ensure maximum safety in handling in getting it back to us.

This has to be one of the finest analogue polysynths ever made and was used by all the top artists of the ’80s, especially JMJ. Built-in 4 track sequencer 8 voice polyphonic, twin oscillator 24 dB/octave low pass filter 6 & 12 dB/octave bandpass filters 12 dB/octave high pass filter. The specification doesn’t tell you that this is a silky smooth performer and in the right hands can deliver and almost polyphonic modular experience…just an amazing machine.

The overall condition of this Synthex is exemplary and has most definitely been treated with love and care throughout its life, and whilst our client has owned it they have had it set up in their home with a dust cover over it when not in use. It’s a stunning machine, a collector grade instrument: 9.9 out of 10.

We reluctantly sold our own ‘in-house’ Elka Synthex back in 2017, which we considered being the best condition Mk3 example we had ever seen. This Synthex now available, certainly matches that in quality, and will represent a fine instrument and investment for anyone looking for the best condition Synthex in the world.

KSR will be conducting a full service/health-check on the operational side, even though it was fully restored by them in 2015.
