Roland Juno 60

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK client

Came into stock: Arrived at RL Music in early September 2018.

Servicing Status: A full service by KSR has already been carried out (August 2018), so this Juno 60 is ready for immediate sale & collection/shipping.

Remarks: This is fast becoming the most popular (and affordable) vintage analogue polysynth in the world.

The design of the Juno 60 has to be one of the best Roland ever produced in terms of simplicity of sound design and warmth of character. The Juno 60 has been a ‘go-to’ synth for working musicians wanting that vintage sound for quite a while now. It kind of defies logic that a DCO synth could deliver such a lush and musical tone, and it’s won the hearts and minds of all synthesists who’d had the opportunity to own or play one.

This factory standard Juno 60 has been in the ownership of our client for over 25 years and was only ever used at his home during his ownership, and although showing signs of its age cosmetically, it works perfectly and needed little in the way of any operational attention.

We have taken a number of photos that highlight the cosmetic blemishes on this Juno 60, so you will see it is in good around condition, but far from perfect, so the sales price has been agreed with our client to reflect this. This synth sounds and operates like all Juno 60 should, so if the sound is more important than the looks, then this instrument will make a good studio workhorse for your vintage analogue poly needs.

The Juno 60 is an EU220V machine, so is supplied with a UK-plug fitted to the power cable. We will supply a copy of the user manual on PDF.

Price: £1690 GBP.

Availability: This Juno 60 is available for sale now.

Roland System 700

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our client

Came into stock: Arrived at RL Music in April 2018

Restoration Status: Kent Spong of KSR completed the full 6-week restoration on 22nd June 2018, so the system now resides with RL Music in Reading, UK.

We probably don’t need to make much in terms of introduction here, but with there only believed to be 40 System 700 ever made, then you will appreciate this instrument was scarce even when it was in manufactured during the period of 8 years from 1976.

As electronic musical instruments go, this is considered by many to be the Holy Grail of synthesizers, and is without any doubt, amongst the very best designed and built analogue modular synthesizers ever made. It’s not for us to sell the virtues of such an outstanding instrument as the worlds most accomplished synthesists have shown the capability of these beautiful creations, so we will just talk here about this particular instrument that’s available for sale.

Provenance

This System 700 has very recently (March 2018) been purchased from its original owner in Japan. The owner purchased it new from Roland and had it kept in their home all that time, and although they could not recall the exact date it was bought, it was certainly around 40 years ago. The incredible instrument has been imported directly into the EU from Japan and is now being offered by RL Music for sale.

Cosmetic Condition

Upon arrival at RL Music, we checked over the system and found it to be 100% intact with all the controls, ancillary hardware (including all lids), knobs, sliders caps, switches, keys, cables and serial plates etc., all to be present and correct.

The condition of the Tolex covering on each and every Block is excellent, and the anodised control surfaces & screen print on each individual module to be superb, with only minimal wear…remarkable! Kent carried out some light restorative re-finishing to the Tolex to bring back its depth-of-colour and lustre. There is a ‘Roland” badge missing off the Block 4 lid, but all others are present on the other lids.

There is a small scuff on the sequencer panel, and some of the anodising on certain modules has oxidised due to age, but otherwise, this is a close to perfection as is possible, and the dream of most of us to own. KSR stripped each panel and deep-cleaned the anodised surfaces (very carefully).

Operational Condition

Kent carried out a 6-week complete overhaul of the system, so every jack-socket, sliders, block-connector, DIN-socket, interconnect cables and switches have been deep cleaned & lubricated. The twin VU meters were replaced with NOS Roland meters as the originals were no longer working.

Each and every Module was removed, tested, deep-cleaned and fully calibrated. A number of the power-regulation capacitors were replaced due to the originals having failed due to age. The PSU has been fully refurbished.

The Keyboard was stripped and fully overhauled.

Every single function and detail of the modular system has been methodically & fastidiously addressed, and after investing over £15K GBP in restoration costs, it now works flawlessly and looks stunning!

Configuration

This is a slightly non-standard configured system, and a manufactured later in the production run of these professional studio systems, from what we could ascertain, so here is a full configuration breakdown:

Block 1-Main Console (sn: 590069)
This is the Heart of the System, and it contains all the basic modules necessary for a professional system. It has 3 x VCO, 1 x Low Pass VCF, 1 x LP/BP/HP VCF, 2 x VCA, 2 x LFO, 1 x Dual ADSR Envelope Generators, Noise, Ring Mod, Voltage Processor, S/H, Envelope Follower, Integrator (Lag Processor), 1 x Mixer, 2 X 5 multiples, Headphone Monitor Module, and an Output Module, which includes Stereo VU Meters, a six-position test-tone, Phase Shifter, Spring Reverb, and voltage controlled Panning. Most common module connections (power, cv, gate) are made internally for easier patching.

Block 2 – Keyboard Controller (sn: 630116):
The 61-key two-voice Keyboard with Portamento and Pitch-bend controls.

Block 3 – Sequencer (sn: 800097):
This offers 3 x 12 step sequencer with Pulse Shaper, Clock Oscillator, and Series / Parallel output sections – considered one of the best analogue sequencers ever made.

Block 4 – VCO Bank (sn: 800002):
6 x VCO, 1 x Dual ADSR Envelope Generator, 2 x LFO, Sample and Hold and 1 x Mixer.

Block 5 – VCF/VCA Bank (sn: 800003):
1 x Low Pass VCF, 1 x LP/BP/HP VCF, 2 x VCA, Noise Generator, Ring Modulator, 1 x Dual ADSR Envelope Generator, 2 x Mixers and 2 x Gate Delay.

Block 6 – Interface/Mixer (sn: 780089):
1 x Frequency-to-Voltage Converter (with VDU) Interface with Envelope Follower & Gate Signal Generator, a VCA, 9-channel Audio Mixer, and a Multimode Filter.

Block 7 – Phase Shifter/Audio Delay (sn: 800001):
A 2-channel Phase Shifter and a 2-channel Audio Delay, Amplifier, Envelope Follower, Integrator (Lag Processor), 2 x Mixers and a Sample & Hold.

What does it sound like?
It sounds incredible and can be huge or beautifully musical and subtle…like any quality modular system, but the System 700 has its own sound and unique character. Kent at KSR actually wrote a short track with the System 700 just after he had completed the restoration work, so if you click the link below you can listen to the piece on his Soundcloud account:

https://soundcloud.com/ksr80/uphill-700

The System 700 is a professional grade instrument, with a price tag to match back in the late 1970s, and recent specialist auction prices ( £110K GBP at VEMIA November 2017) show that these have risen very sharply in price. Demand has always been very high for anything System 700 related, either in the Lab Systems or separate Blocks being sold, but finding a full system is exceptionally rare.

Now the System 700 has been meticulously restored, we are selling it with a full 6-month warranty, and we will ship worldwide. A quote for custom packing (by us), shipping & insurance to get it to you will be produced upon request. Delivery by us (in person) is possible for most UK destinations – prices subject to address.

This beautiful behemoth of a synthesizer runs on 110V. We are not supplying any 1/4” jack audio cables with the sale, and unfortunately, the original owners manual was not supplied to us, but we do have a high-quality version in PDF which we will include in the sale.

This is one serious music machine and words simply can’t describe the power and potential for infinite sound creation possibilities. There is such a lot to say about this legendary and beautiful modular system but we just haven’t enough room here on our website so please call or email us to discuss your requirements.

Price: £92,000 GBP

Roland Jupiter 6

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK client

Came into stock:  Available from RL Music as at 13th July 2018.

Restoration Status: A full service by KSR has already been carried out (completed in July 2018), so this Jupiter 6 is ready for sale now.

Remarks: This Jupiter 6 was purchased new by our client in the early 1980s, and only ever used in the home. The cosmetic condition is outstanding and the whole synth only shows very light indications of use & ware – this is remarkable for a keyboard over 35 years old! We would grade this as a 9 out of 10 cosmetically, Collector-Grade!

The Jupiter 6 has been a hugely popular polysynth since its arrival in 1983 and offers aficionados that beautiful vintage polyphonic analogue Roland sound for very reasonable cost, certainly when compared to its sibling, the Jupiter 8. Prices for these models in recent years has seen a significant uplift as vintage polysynths are getting more and more rare to find in good condition, let alone the condition of this example we have available.

This JP6 has not had any modifications to its factory spec. This is often important for buyers who prefer to either leave them as stock or upgrade them according to their own needs & budget, depending on what retrofit solutions may be available in the marketplace.

The Jupiter 6 is a professional-grade vintage instrument that’s only ever going to become more sought after and rarer, so here is your opportunity to buy a beautiful condition example, fresh from the hands of a master synth restorer (Kent Spong), and fully guaranteed by RL Music.

Runs on EU 220V or 110V (switchable) and is supplied with the original Roland owners manual.

Price: £3390 GBP.

EMS VCS3 Mk2 Jul06

EMS VCS3 Mk2

Updated: 6th July 2018

We will shortly have a stunning example of the world famous EMS VCS3, a modified Mk2 version, coming up for sale shortly, and this sweet machine comes with a fascinating provenance.

This VCS3 was previously owned by the composer; Edward Williams, who drew inspiration from it and used it in the first series of the BBC’s Life On Earth series. More info on all of that to follow next week once we collect the VCS3 from KSR, so please keep checking our sales pages for updates.

Roland TB-303

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK client.

Came into stock: Available from RL Music as at 6th July 2018.

Servicing Status: A full service by KSR has already been carried out (late June 2018), so the Roland TB-303 is available for sale now.

Remarks: Acid!!! An immaculate and usefully rack-mounted example of the machine that defined a genre of music, the Roland TB-303.

This Roland TB-303 forms part of a larger collection of vintage synths that we are brokering as part of an Estate clearance. The owner of this TB-303 had this bass/seq machine maintained with no expense spared, and at some time in the last 10 years, they had it professionally mounted into the rack-plate you can see in the pictures below. The work was done beautifully but required the original plastic TB-303 case to be screwed into for the fixings. This modification may not bother many people as having the unit racked make a lot of sense in today’s space-limited studios.

Cosmetically, this 34-year-old vintage analogue instrument is in near pristine condition, aside from the mounting screws as mentioned above. We took a picture of the battery compartment as well, just to show has clean everything is on this TB-303. KSR has only just fully serviced it, so it’s 100% perfect operationally – this is a real keeper!

The original external Roland PSU was not supplied to us so we have purchased a brand new external 9V AC PSU for the unit. We also have the original user manual, box and other docs for this (pictured) which are included in the sale. As the instrument is being Brokered through RL Music, it will be sold with a full 3-month warranty and we can ship worldwide.

Demos are available by appointment only.

Price: £1750 GBP.

Yamaha CS70M

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our customer

Came into stock: September 2017.

Restoration Status: A full service by KSR has already been carried out (completed on 11th October 2017), so this CS70M is ready for sale now.

Remarks: We’re excited to be able to get hold of this really lovely condition CS70M as they really are quite magnificent synths for a whole number of reasons. These were proper old-school designed hybrid digital/analogue systems made between 1981 and 1984, and it wasn’t long after these came out that the DX7 was introduced, which seems hard to believe really.

The CS70M has for many people been overlooked, or perhaps overshadowed by it’s bigger brother – the CS80, but this instrument has ascended in popularity among aficionados, and we know this synth is highly sought after by those who truly appreciate it.

6 Voice, dual channel (stereo), aftertouch, 30 memories, ring-mod, chorus & Leslie effects, lowpass, highpass, and bandpass VCF, fully programmable and with a 4 channel polyphonic sequencer etc.

Those in the know will already tell you that this is one of the finest analogue polys ever made and a work of audio art in its own right. It shares most of the same technology as the CS80 and many of the characteristics and tonal qualities as well. The other big ‘Hello’ is also the fact you can get really close to the CS80 sound for a lot less money…this makes it even more appealing considering the price.

The UK owner we are selling this magnificent machine for has owned it for over a decade and the synth has been in regular use during that time, with periodic maintenance carried out to keep it in top workmen order. MIDI has already been retrofitted to this CS70M, which adds a lot of value when integrating into a modern studio setup.

The cosmetic condition of this example is extremely good overall with only light user wear & natural aging to the control surfaces. The faux wood laminate cabinet it in very good order with only a couple of spots where this has been worn. We would grade this is “very good original condition – 8.5 out of 10 cosmetically.’

Operationally, our trusted ‘Yamaha CS Series’ restoration experts – KSR have already carried out a full service on the CS70M, so it’s 100% perfectly working and ready for its new owner.

There are a few demos on YT of these but we like this rather ambient-noodling one from ‘MoreAnalog’ because it demonstrates nicely how the CS70M has the CS80 vibe we are talking about: https://youtu.be/1_jy9ERBTPs

This CS70M is sold through RL Music with a 3-month warranty and can operate on US 110V or EU 220V. Also, we can supply a PDF photocopy of the user manual, and of course, the proprietary Yamaha power-cable.

Price: £6990 GBP

Remarks: This Jupiter 6 came to us as part of a larger collection of vintage synths that we are brokering as part of an Estate clearance. The owner of this JP6 had this beautiful synthesizer maintained with no expense spared, so this synth literally feels and plays like brand new..amazing!

Like all the vintage synths we are Brokering for the estate, this Jupiter 6 is in exemplary condition, and we would describe it as looking ‘nearly new’ to even the closest inspection. Operationally it’s 100% perfectly working and cosmetically pristine – we would grade this as a 9.9 out of 10 cosmetically, Collector-Grade!

Yamaha CS80

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our EU client.

Came into stock: Available from RL Music as at 28th June 2018, and this CS80 is currently located at our restoration partners – KSR in Surrey, UK.

Servicing Status: A full health-check by KSR has already been carried out (June 2018), so this CS80 is ready for sale now.

Remarks: This CS80 is an exemplary condition example that we sold to our client, the owner, in 2015 when the instrument was subjected to what we term a ‘Total Restoration.’

This CS80 we are offering for sale can be considered among the very finest examples in the world. It is still a 40-year-old instrument with its original keys & buttons etc., but the restoration work invested into it, plus the modifications listed below, mean this is a very special machine, and we have produced only a small number of these very high-level restored examples in the last 16 years for discerning customers around the world.

The CS80 has already been fully cosmetically and operationally restored (Level 2) by KSR. Only RL Music get the ‘’Level 2’ restoration as this includes a much higher level of detailed restoration by KSR, including a full key-bed restoration and point-to-point cabling/solder-contacts integrity checking for the entire loom etc. The Level 2 operational restoration normally costs £4000 GBP (in 2018). We’re pleased to confirm this CS80 already had this work applied of course and is included in the sale price.

The following work has been implemented:

The restoration comprises (not limited to) the total replacement of all the old CMOS Logic IC’s, all of the dual op-amps, voice card, and power supply capacitors & transistors. In addition to this the TKC circuit board, which controls the polyphonic aftertouch of the CS80, is fitted with a set of bypass/decoupling capacitors for each IC to greatly reduce the chance of failure of the touch response circuit. To cap this off, a full calibration is then performed (voltages to within 3 decimal places). The actual list of work is huge, and changes out several hundred components,  and includes a 7 day burn-in test period/stress testing.
All the RL Music supplied CS80s are serviced/restored by the world renown CS80 expert Kent Spong of KSR (Kent Spong Restorations) in London. Sound on Sound magazine (SOS) did an interview article on Kent, which you can find here:

http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jun13/articles/kent-spong.htm

Warranty provided on this CS80:
The CS80 is sold with a 6-month warranty as standard which covers all parts and labour and telephone/Skype technical support. KSR also provide full 12-month after-sales technical support for the CS80 by phone, email and Skype post-warranty. KSR is world renown CS80 experts and currently, support several hundred CS80 around the world for professional musicians/studios and enthusiasts etc.

Upgrade Option Fitted -1:
If Midi is required on the CS80 then we are normally able to supply and install the Kenton Midi retrofit Kits for an additional £850 GBP. We’re pleased to confirm this CS80 already has a new Kenton MIDI kit fitted (in 2015), so is included in the sale price below.

Upgrade Option Fitted – 2:
Total-Restoration Upgrade
Most of the major aspects of the CS80 cosmetic presentation are addressed including re-tolexing all the exterior (and lid), re-painting and screen printing all control surfaces. This work normally takes up to 12 weeks to complete.  For more information on what is included in this ultimate upgrade option then please call or email us for details. The Total-Restoration Cosmetic Upgrade Option costs £3500 GBP. We’re pleased to confirm this CS80 already had the Total-Restoration Cosmetic Upgrade applied, and is included in the sale price.

Upgrade Option Fitted – 3:
Solid wood surround (in Walnut) beautifully handcrafted by Lamond Design, is normally supplied for an additional £850 GBP. We’re pleased to confirm this CS80 already has a solid Walnut surround fitted, and is included in the sale price.

Items of Note on this CS80 for sale:
Most CS80′s have lost their ‘Pedals, Music Stand and Legs’ over the years, so we are unable to supply these original accessories to the new owner, and this example for sale does not have any either. However, this CS80 does come with the original lid, which has been re tolexed of course. We will supply a copy of the owners manual on PDF.

This CS80 operates on EU220V but can be converted to US110V if required (subject to quotation).

We can have the CS80 professionally packed (custom crated) and shipped pretty much anywhere in the world (subject to quotation).

Price: With ‘average to tatty’ cosmetic condition, and fault-ridden examples of CS80 selling privately for £17,000+ GBP these days (if you can find one), we are inviting offers for this superlative & upgraded example in excess of £22,000 GBP.

Availability: This CS80 is now SOLD as at 9th August 2018.

Arp 2600 Price Reduction! Jun26

Arp 2600 Price Reduc...

Updated 26th June 2018.

We have the privilege to Broker a very special custom re-finished Arp 2600 that’s been available on our website for a couple of months now. Our Client who owns this one-of-a-kind 2600 has been keen for us to find a buyer, so has agreed a significant price reduction so we can get this synth into a new home as soon as possible.

We’ve updated our sales page today with a huge price change on this instrument, so please click this link to find out more: http://www.rlmusic.co.uk/rlm3/arp-2600c/

Arp 2600

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK customer

Came into stock: Arrived at RL Music on 15th February 2018

Restoration Status: A full service by KSR has already been carried out (completed in February 2018), so this Arp 2600 is ready for sale now.

Remarks: We have a remarkable opportunity for you to own a true one-off example of what is considered to be one of the finest vintage synths ever made – the Arp 2600, but with a lot of extra added value.

Standard Arp 2600 features: Semi-normalised – 3 VCOs (4027=1), 4 pole Lowpass VCF (4012), VCA, Ring Modulator, 2 EGs, sample & hold Noise, Mic Preamp, Spring Reverb, Voltage Processor and Four Octave Keyboard….the list goes on. This is an Arp 2600 (2600P V3.0). There is no Keyboard controller included with this sale.

What is different about this Arp 2600?

Wood Cabinet: As you can see from the pictures below, our client decided to have a custom Walnut cabinet made (by Lamond Design) in 2017 for the synth, replacing the original plywood/tolexed case. the cabinet was hand-made by Ross Lamond and finished (stained and waxed) by Kent Spong at KSR. The results are sublime, and as far as we know, this is unique…stunning! All the metal hardware was also replaced with the black anodised fittings to the case. KSR spent 4 days carrying out this highly skilled work.

Metal Control Panel: The main control panel has been stripped, repainted and screen printed to produce an ‘as new’ finish. This is expensive and very time-consuming work and the panel restoration was completed at the end of 2017. KSR had to strip down the Arp completely so the panel could be sent away for the cosmetic treatment, so the synth has been fully rebuilt by KSR and serviced – around 50 hours work in total (not including the cabinet refinishing work).

Modifications by CMS (Phil Cirocco): Our client commission CMS in the USA to carry out some mods on this Arp 2600, so here is a list of what’s been done to this synth:
>Variable octave switches and pot for all 3 VCOs, range of 2 octaves
>Sync switches 2-3, 3
>17″ reverb tank upgrade
>1/4″ input and outputs (main in/outs)
>Upgraded PSU – running EU 220V
>All sliders were chemically cleaned and lubricated, VCO trimmers replaced
Our client spent over $2000 USD with CMS for these modifications in 2017 – to find out more about CMS then please click this link: http://www.discretesynthesizers.com/arptronics/arp2600.htm

Our client has invested thousands of pounds on having this Arp 2600 prepared to such a high standard and it certainly stands out as a unique and stunningly beautiful example. The sales price does reflect the investment made and quality of the finish, the technical preparation by two of the industries leading vintage synth specialists, and finally, the warranty sold by RL Music on this instrument. We think it’s fair to say that there’s a fair amount of extra value with this machine.

This custom rebuilt Arp 2600 operates on EU 220V. it’s sold with a 6-month warranty. Included in the sale is proprietary Arp power-cable, and we will also include a PDF copy of the user manual.

Price: £7500 GBP.

Availability: This custom rebuilt Arp 2600 is now SOLD as at 9th July 2018.

Pictures of this Arp 2600 are below – high-res pictures available on request.

King of Synths Jun13

King of Synths

Updated 13th June 2018.

We got the ‘go ahead’ this week from our client to Broker his ex-RL Music restored CS80 (pictured here). Kent at KSR is running through the pre-sale prep now as it’s at his workshop but we can tell you that this CS80 was fully cosmetically and operationally restored by us in 2015, had MIDI and a solid Walnut surround (by Lamond Design) fitted – one of the very finest CS80 we ever sold!

We’ll be updating our sales page shortly with all the details on this truly outstanding CS80, and have some high-res pictures available as well of course. This represents the pinnacle of what we can achieve in restoration terms for this King of Synths, so it’s a rare opportunity to own ‘the perfect CS80.’

Arp Odyssey Mk3

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK client.

Came into stock: Available from RL Music as at 13th June 2018.

Servicing Status: A full service by KSR has already been carried out (June 2018), so the Arp Odyssey Mk3 (model 2821) is available for sale now.

Remarks: We’re very pleased to be able to offer this truly stunning condition example of one of the world best-known & loved vintage synths – much cloned but never surpassed!

This Odyssey Mk3 forms part of a larger collection of vintage synths that we are brokering as part of an Estate clearance. The owner of this Odyssey had this beautiful synthesizer maintained with no expense spared, and at some time in the last 10 years they had ALL the sliders replaced with new original Arp stock (NOS), so this synth literally feels and plays like brand new..amazing!

Cosmetically, this 37+ year-old vintage analogue instrument is in outstanding cosmetic & operational condition and we would rate this as a Collector Grade – 9 out of 10. As mentioned above, KSR has only just fully serviced it, so it’s 100% perfect operationally – this is a real keeper!

The (last produced in 1981) Mk3 Odyssey is arguably the prettiest iteration of the Odyssey family with the striking panel colours and unique design feature with the exposed keys (same as the Quadra), well we think so anyway.
