EMS Synthi AKS

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK.

Came into stock: Available from RL Music as at 13th June 2018.

Servicing Status: A full health-check by KSR has already been carried out (June 2018), so this Synthi AKS is ready for sale now. The AKS was also fully serviced in July 2017 by SSC in London.

Remarks: A fabulous opportunity to own your EMS Synthi AKS, and this example is in stunning condition throughout.

This Synthi AKS was owned by our clients family since 1994 and it had been in constant use and maintained regularly during their ownership at their home studio, up until quite recently.

These iconic and truly amazing pure analogue music instruments are in great demand by professional users, and prices are being driven up fast on the second-hand market around the world, so now might be a good time to invest in one before they become ‘Vintage Buchla or RA Moog Modular’ prices.

We can’t think of a more iconic, truly portable synthesizer ever being made, and even today the design of the Synthi is considered a triumph of feature and form…incredible.

This EMS Synthi AKS did come from the owner with a partial set of worn Matrix pins, which we have used to picture it with, but the pins are in need of replacing to ensure a reliable contact within the matrix panel, so we always recommend you also purchase a brand new (full) set of matrix pins, which we get supplied from EMS directly. Please ask us for a quote if you would like this option.

KSR has just given this Synthi AKS a full health-check, clean and calibration so it’s 100% fully operational, and as you can see from the pictures, in superb all original condition (completely un modified). Cosmetically, this 40+ year-old vintage analogue instrument is in near pristine condition and we would rate this as a Collector Grade – 9 out of 10.

This Synthi AKS operates on EU 220V. We were also supplied with the original EMS user manual for this model. The Cinch-Jones Synthi-to-KS cable and power-cable is also included. As the instrument is being Brokered through RL Music, it will be sold with a full 3-month warranty and we can ship worldwide.

Demos are available by appointment only.

Sales Price: £11,500 GBP.

Korg VC-10

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK.

Came into stock: Available from RL Music as at 13th June 2018.

Servicing Status: A full service by KSR has already been carried out (June 2018), so the VC-10 is available for sale now.

Remarks: A good condition example of the wonderful vintage Korg VC-10 Vocoder. This unique and super little 20-band vocoder was made between 1978 and 1982 and followed the ‘MS Series’ design ethos.

This is very simple but characteristic machine, and the built-in keyboard makes it easy to use as an effects processor as well as a more traditional human voice synthesizer.

The Original gooseneck mic is, unfortunately, missing (common) but the original Korg mics that came with the unit were not of audiophile quality anyway, so you can use an unbalanced 1/4 jack input on the front panel. RL Music is able to fit a new XLR socket to replace the original proprietary 3 pin Korg mic socket, so please contact us for a quote to have this implemented if needed.

Here’s nice demo from Junkie XL who talks about this own VC010 – he’s clearly a big fan of this super little vocoder:
https://youtu.be/Q5tUgh1Uvj8

This VC-10 was owned by our clients family since 1994 and it had been in constant use and maintained regularly during their ownership at their home studio, up until quite recently.

Cosmetically, this 37+ year-old vintage analogue vocoder is in good original condition and shows the normal amount of wear for an instrument of this age, and has been priced to reflect this. As mentioned above, KSR has only just fully serviced the VC-10, so it’s 100% perfect operationally.

This Korg VC-10 operates on EU 220V. We do have a user manual (in PDF format). As the instrument is being Brokered through RL Music, it will be sold with a full 3-month warranty and we can ship worldwide.

Demos are available by appointment only.

Arp Odyssey Mk3

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK.

Came into stock: Available from RL Music as at 13th June 2018.

Servicing Status: A full service by KSR has already been carried out (June 2018), so the Arp Odyssey Mk3 (model 2821) is available for sale now.

Remarks: We’re very pleased to be able to offer this truly stunning condition example of one of the world best-known & loved vintage synths – much cloned but never surpassed!

This Odyssey Mk3 forms part of a larger collection of vintage synths that we are brokering as part of an Estate clearance. The owner of this Odyssey had this beautiful synthesizer maintained with no expense spared, and at some time in the last 10 years they had ALL the sliders replaced with new original Arp stock (NOS), so this synth literally feels and plays like brand new..amazing!

Cosmetically, this 37+ year-old vintage analogue instrument is in outstanding cosmetic & operational condition and we would rate this as a Collector Grade – 9 out of 10. As mentioned above, KSR has only just fully serviced it, so it’s 100% perfect operationally – this is a real keeper!

The (last produced in 1981) Mk3 Odyssey is arguably the prettiest iteration of the Odyssey family with the striking panel colours and unique design feature with the exposed keys (same as the Quadra), well we think so anyway. The Duophonic Mk3 features the beautiful Arp 4075 discrete four-pole 24dB lowpass/high pass filter. It has CV/Gate/Trig/Filter/Audio/Pedal I/O along the back-plane of the synth, plus the XLR output etc.

This Mk3 Odyssey operates on EU 220V. We do have a user manual (in PDF format). As the instrument is being Brokered through RL Music, it will be sold with a full 3-month warranty and we can ship worldwide.

Demos are available by appointment only.

Price: £1800 GBP.

Availability: This Mk3 Odyssey is now SOLD as at 15th June 2018.

Arp Quadra

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK Client.

Came into stock: Available from RL Music as at 1st June 2018.

Servicing Status: A full service by KSR is being carried out at the moment, so the Quadra is currently located at the KSR workshop in Surrey.

Remarks: An really beautiful condition example of one of the best looking and sounding hybrid analogue polysynth of its generation – The Arp Quadra.

Produced between 1978 to 1981, the Quadra was adopted by many of the great bands of that era, probably the most notable being Tony Banks of Genesis – it’s beautiful and distinctive sounds can be heard in many of their albums of that period.

As the name suggests, the Quadra is 4 instruments in one, so a Bass synth, Polysynth, Lead synth, and String synth..all of which it does exquisitely well, and the built-in phase-shifter is to die for. This all adds up to make this ‘must have’ vintage keyboard for any serious fan.

Here’s an excellent demo from a friend of ours – Marko Ettlich, otherwise known as RetroSound. Marko delivers a beautiful demo of the Quadra in this short 3:50 piece:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksuG-f_HsRA

Our client has owned this Quadra for over 15 years and it has been in constant use and serviced regularly during their ownership at their home studio. Cosmetically, this 37+ year-old vintage analogue polysynth is in truly fantastic condition and we would rate this as a Collector Grade – 9 out of 10. The main control surface is in remarkable condition with all the controls (slider/keys) intact and all mylar membrane switches working perfectly. The main metal case and leather end-cheeks are in super condition throughout, with just some light wear as you would expect for a device this age.

We are due to collect the Quadra from KSR w/c 4th June, as it’s being serviced at the moment, so we will get some high-res pictures organised once we have the synth back here with us in Reading.

This Arp Quadra operates on EU 220V. We do have a user manual (in PDF format). As the instrument is being Brokered through RL Music, it will be sold with a full 3-month warranty and can be shipped worldwide.

Demos are available by appointment only.

Price: £8,990 GBP.

Availability: This Arp Quadra is available for sale now and can be reserved on deposit (20%).

Roland Juno 60

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK Client

Came into stock: Available at RL Music from 31st May 2018

Servicing Status: Full service by KSR will commence post-sale.

Remarks: Time capsule Alert! We were delivered the Juno 60 from our client today and can really only describe this machine as in factory new condition. Our Client stepped out of his time machine and handed it to us….well, it has certainly felt like that looking at the condition of this Juno 60.

This completely original and unmodified Juno 60 was purchased new by our client in 1983 from a well-known music store on in the South of England (Eddie Moors’ Music) and has been kept at the owners home since. It has been used regularly throughout its life and the operational condition was perfect when we tested it this morning. This is a really rare find and the Juno 60 even comes with all its original documents and program data cassette! A very much loved and cared for instrument and the cosmetic condition reflects this perfectly as it’s immaculate.

The Juno 60 is the same synth as the Juno 6 but the 60 has programmable memories and MIDI Capability. As with its sibling, the sound engine is the same beautifully warm vintage Roland sound, but having the memories on the 60 makes it more of a ‘go-to’ synth for working musicians wanting that vintage sound.

This factory standard Juno 60 is in ‘collector grade’ condition 9.9 out of 10.

We’re very pleased to be able to offer this immaculate vintage synthesizer as a Brokered deal, and we will be fully servicing it and selling it with a 3-month warranty.

This Juno 60 is, without doubt, one of the finest condition examples we have ever seen. It also is supplied with its original Roland Factory Programs A/B Cassette, Juno 6 Operation Manual and Patch Program Data Sheet (all pictured below).

Runs on EU 220V.

If you want MIDI to be fitted to this Juno 60 and have a preference to which Kit you like then please contact us about the supply and/or installation cost as this is not included in the sales price below.

As with all Brokered Sales, the synth will be fully serviced post-sale before it’s sent to its new owner. We do this to ensure that the instrument leaves us in perfect operational condition, and it is backed up by our full warranty to give the new owner complete peace of mind. The servicing is carried out as a priority once the sale has been completed, and although it will delay shipping/delivery by a short time, we know from experience that customers are happy to wait.

Price: £1890 GBP.

Korg Trident Mk1

Came into stock: Available from RL Music from 23rd May 2018.

Restoration/Servicing Status: KSR has already fully serviced this Trident Mk1, so it’s ready for sale now!

For those of you who are unsure of what this machine is let us tell you that it is one of the very last best kept vintage analogue secrets left in the world. This is an SSM technology based – Synth, Brass and String Machine and packed full of modulation, voicing and timbre controls as well as onboard effects in the form of an absolute killer Flanger and beautiful Ensemble. Simply…It’s gorgeous!

Being a Korg, the build quality of this 1980 produced synth was very high, a testament to the fact that it’s still working perfectly, all the original controls are intact and it’s built like a tank.

This Trident was purchased from a UK owner who had owned it for 25+ years and kept at home. The operational condition is remarkably good, and the synth has just been serviced by KSR. The cosmetic condition is also good for its age, with the main control surfaces only showing what we would expect to be reasonable wear for a nearly 40-year-old instrument.

The wood cabinet does show has some inevitable wear & tear, but we have not applied any restorative work to it to keep the sales costs down. The price below reflects the condition, and the Trident Mk1 represents the best value example in the world…by far!

The Trident is sold with our standard 3-month warranty and runs on EU220V voltage. We will also include a copy of the owners manual (PDF).

Price: £2290 GBP.

Availability: This Korg Trident Mk1 is SOLD as at 30th May 2018.

Roland VP330 Plus

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our customer

Came into stock: Arrived at RL Music on 17th May 2018.

Servicing Status: A full assessment was by KSR carried out on 11th May – a full service by KSR will commence post-sale.

Remarks: An immaculate condition example of the final production version of the iconic Roland VP330 Vocoder PLus.

The VP330 was always loved for the rich analogue strings and alone make this instrument worth having, but the vocoder section with the external mic & synth inputs, can deliver some very exciting voicing effects and timbres & triggering etc. The VP330 has been used by Vangelis (Blade Runner) to William Orbit and many contemporary artists, so it has a long and distinguished history of use.

Our client has owned this VP330 Vocoder PLus since 1987 and it has been in regular use, and serviced regularly, during their 31 years of ownership. Cosmetically, this 35+ year-old vintage Roland is in truly fantastic condition and we would rate this as a Collector Grade – 9.5 out of 10. The main control surfaces are all still looking fresh, with and all the controls intact. The faux wood cabinet is in excellent condition also.

Our own vintage synth restorers – KSR, have very recently fully health-checked the synth as part of the pre-Brokering assessment, so we’re happy it’s fully operational, with all functions/control working smoothly and as you would expect, but the VP330 Plus will be fully serviced post-sale.

This VP330 Vocoder PLus operates on EU 220V and is supplied with the user manuals in PDF format. As the instrument is being Brokered through RL Music, it will be sold with a full 3-month warranty and can be shipped worldwide.

Elka Synthex Mk2

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our customer.

Came into stock: Arrived at RL Music on 17th May 2018.

Servicing Status: Full assessment by KSR carried out on 11th May – full service by KSR will commence post-sale.

Remarks: A really super condition example of the Mk2 Elka Synthex, so MIDI utilised and with MIDI sockets installed (retrofitted).

This has to be one of the finest analogue polysynths ever made and was used by all the top artists of the 80′s, especially JMJ. Built-in 4 track sequencer 8 voice polyphonic, twin oscillator 24 dB/octave low pass filter 6 & 12 dB/octave band-pass filters 12 dB/octave high pass filter. The specification doesn’t tell you that this is a silky smooth performer and in the right hands can deliver an almost polyphonic modular experience…just an amazing machine.

The Synthex was very well cared for during its lifetime at the current owner home (16 years), so the cosmetic condition is excellent, as you can see from the pictures. The main control surfaces are in fantastic condition, and the wood cabinet is in well above average condition for its age, so if you are after a really reliable example that works perfectly and looks beautiful, then look no further.

Our own vintage synth restorers – KSR, have very recently fully health-checked the synth as part of the pre-Brokering assessment, so we’re happy it’s fully operational, with all functions/control working smoothly and as you would expect, but the Synthex will be fully serviced post-sale.

This Synthex operates on EU 220V and is supplied with the user manuals in PDF format. As the instrument is being Brokered through RL Music, it will be sold with a full 3-month warranty and can be shipped worldwide.

Roland 700 Lab

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our customer.

Came into stock: Arrived at RL Music on 17th May 2018.

Servicing Status: Full service by KSR has already been carried out so the synth is ready for sale & shipping now!

Remarks: A very rare opportunity to own stunning vintage
modular system from the Roland 700 lineage – the System 700 Lab.

This is a very powerful 3 oscillator normalised system with 1/4 inch jack In/Out for expanded sound creation possibilities and is based entirely on the system architecture of the full System 700. Unusually, we also have a full Roland System 700 for sale at the moment – so you can see that the Lab is the same size as one of the lower wing cabinets.

This is a standard configuration system, so has not been modified from its original factory specification, and the serial number is 660042. This contains all the basic modules necessary for a professional system. It has 3 x VCO, 1 x VCF, 1 x VCA, 1 x LFO, 2 x ADSR EG, Noise (white & pink), Ring Mod, S/H and a Mixer.

The 700 Lab is in excellent all original condition, with only light wear to the modules surfaces, although there is some oxidisation to the anodising, which we are seeing as normal for these 40+-year-old instruments. The Tolex covering and chromed/nickel-plated parts are all intact and in excellent order, although there are a couple of small indentations on the back of the cabinet along the edges.

We would rate this as a collectors condition example – 9.5 out of 10. KSR has just fully serviced the system so it’s 100% perfect operationally.

This is a 1V/Oct system that can be accessed via any suitable CV/Gate controller or MIDI to CV device. To get the most out of the 700 Lab we would recommend using a multi-channel Midi to CV device like the Kenton Pro-2000 which can give you 3 note polyphonic control if needed. We can supply a Kenton Pro-200 but is not included in the sales price below, so please ask us for prices.

This System 700 Lab is sold with our normal 3-month warranty and runs on EU 220V. There was no user documentation supplied by the owner, but we will supply a copy of the System 700 Synthesizer Instruction Manual in PDF format.

Price: £22,990 GBP.

SCI Pro-One

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our customer

Came into stock: Arrived at RL Music on 10th May 2018.

Servicing Status: Full service by KSR has already been carried out so the synth is ready for sale & shipping now!

Remarks: RL Music is delighted to present you this great condition Pro-One from the classic Sequential Circuits family.

The Pro-One is a superb mono-synth, utilising Curtis CEM chip technology like her bigger brother, the Prophet 5. A really great sounding vintage analogue synth and very flexible modulation routing capability and wonderful built-in arpeggio & 40 note sequencer.

This Pro-One has come to us from a UK customer who has owned it since the 1980s, but in recent years it had become unused, so they decided to let it go to someone else who can enjoy using it again.

The synth is in really good original condition, but this is not a collectors machine as it does show some cosmetic blemishes around the mod-wheels and another under the LFO section. We understand that there was some sticky tape left there some years ago and the residue has left some marks the case. We felt this minor cosmetic flaw needs highlighting to any potential new buyer, but the sales price has been agreed with our client to reflect this.

This is an early model (J-Wire), with the PSU mounted to the PCB. KSR has just fully serviced the synth, which included a new set of neoprene keyboard bushes, full calibration, re-cap of PSU, deep-clean of all pots, switches, a full overhaul of the key-bed and also restored the wood end-cheeks (stained & waxed).

As you can see from the pictures, this Pro-One is looking great and is 100% perfectly working – sold with our normal 3-month warranty.

Runs on EU 220V, and we will supply a copy of the user manual (on PDF).

Price: £1290 GBP.

Availability: This Pro-One is now SOLD as at 11th June 2018.

Roland System 700

Came into stock: Available from RL Music from 16th April 2018

Restoration Status: KSR will commence full restoration on the system from w/c 23rd April 2018. The (estimated) time to completion is between 5 to 7 weeks.

We probably don’t need to make much in terms of introduction here, but with there only believed to be 40 System 700 ever made, then you will appreciate this instrument was scarce even when it was in manufactured during the period of 8 years from 1976.

As electronic musical instruments go, this is considered by many to be the Holy Grail of synthesizers, and is without any doubt, amongst the very best designed and built analogue modular synthesizers ever made. It’s not for us to just extol the virtues of such an outstanding instrument because the worlds most accomplished synthesists have proven the capability of these beautiful creations in their music, so we’ll just talk here about this particular example that’s available for sale.

Provenance

This System 700 has only very recently been purchased from its original owner in Japan. The owner purchased it new from Roland and had it kept in their home all that time, and although they could not recall the exact date it was bought, it was certainly around 40 years ago. The incredible instrument has been imported directly into the EU from Japan and is now being offered by RL Music for sale.

Condition

Upon arrival at RL Music, we checked over the system and found it to be 100% intact with all the controls, ancillary hardware (including all lids), knobs, sliders caps, switches, keys, cables etc., all to be present and correct. The condition of the Tolex covering on each and every Block is excellent, and the anodised control surfaces & screen print on each individual module to be superb, with only minimal wear…remarkable!

There is a small scuff on the sequencer panel, and some of the anodising on certain modules has oxidised due to age, but otherwise, this is a close to perfection as is possible, and the dream of most of us to own.

The functional condition of each and every function of the modular system has not yet been tested as Kent Spong of KSR will be undertaking a full restoration on this shortly, but we have checked it at a higher level and are satisfied this machine lives and is awesome!

The restoration will entail a full strip-down and rebuild of every single module from scratch, so several weeks work of meticulous cleaning, testing, calibrating and power conditioning. More on the restorative work will be reported on once this has been completed, but Kent at KSR has a lot of experience working on the Roland System 700 technology, so we know this instrument will be in superlative condition once completed.

Configuration

This is a standard configuration system, so has not been modified from its original factory specification:

Block 1-Main Console (sn: 590069)
This is the Heart of the System, and it contains all the basic modules necessary for a professional system. It has 3 x VCO, 2 x VCF, 2 x VCA, 2 x LFO, 2 x ADSR EG, Noise, Ring Mod, Voltage Processor, S/H, Envelope Follower, Integrator (Lag Processor), Mixer, 2 X 5 multiples, Headphone Monitor Module, and an Output Module, which includes Stereo VUs, a six-position test-tone, Phase Shifter, Spring Reverb, and voltage controlled Panning. Most common module connections (power, cv, gate) are made internally for easier patching.

Block 2 – Keyboard Controller (sn: 630116):
The 61-key two-voice Keyboard with Portamento and Pitch-bend controls.

Block 3 – Sequencer (sn: 800097):
This offers 3 x 12 step sequencer with Pulse Shaper, Clock Oscillator, and Series / Parallel output sections – considered one of the best analogue sequencers ever made.

Block 4 – VCO Bank (sn: 800002):
6 x VCO, a dual ADSR envelope generator, LFO, Sample and Hold, 2 x 5 Multiples, and a small Mixer.

Block 5 – VCF/VCA Bank (sn: 800003):
2 x VCFs, 3 x VCAs, 2 dual ADSR envelope generators, 2 x 5 Multiples, and a Gate Delay.

Block 6 – Interface/Mixer (sn: 780089):
A Frequency-to-Voltage Converter Interface, a VCA, 9-channel Audio Mixer, and a Multimode Filter.

Block 7 – Phase Shifter/Audio Delay (sn: 800001):
A 2-channel Phase Shifter and a 2-channel Audio Delay, 4 input Analog Switch, Envelope Follower, Integrator (Lag Processor) and a 2 x 5 multiple.

The System 700 is a professional grade instrument, with a price tag to match back in the late 1970s, and recent specialist auction prices show that these have risen very sharply in price. Demand has always been very high for anything System 700 related, either in the Lab Systems or separate Blocks being sold, but finding a full system is exceptionally rare.

Post-restoration by KSR, this System 700 will be sold with a 6-month warranty and will be ready to ship worldwide. A quote for custom packing (by us), shipping & insurance to get it to you will be produced upon request. Delivery by us (in person) is possible for most UK destinations – prices subject to address.

This beautiful behemoth of a synthesizer runs on 110V. We are not supplying any 1/4” jack audio cables with the sale, and unfortunately, the original owners manual was not supplied to us, but we do have a high-quality version in PDF which we will include in the sale.

This is one serious music machine and words simply can’t describe the power and potential for infinite sound creation possibilities. There is such a lot to say about this legendary and beautiful modular system but we just haven’t enough room here on our website so please call or email us to discuss your requirements.

Price: £POA

Availability: This Roland System 700 is available for sale now and can be reserved on deposit (20%).

We have taken a pre-restoration picture of the actual System 700 for sale, for your enjoyment, so please click on the thumbnail below. Post-restoration, we will organise detailed and numerous high-res pictures of the instrument, and upload them here, unless it is sold in the meantime.

Moog System 55

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK customer

Came into stock: Arrived at RL Music in April 2017

Restoration Status: A full cosmetic and operational restoration by KSR has already been carried out (completed in 23rd August 2017), so this Vintage Original System 55 is ready for sale now.

Remarks: We have been granted a unique opportunity here as these Vintage Original Moog System 55 (with RA Moog 950 Keyboard & Garage) are super rare instruments, and highly sought after. We weren’t given a lot of detailed background information on this system other than the last owner purchased it from a well known Moog collector in Italy several years ago. The Italian musician/collector used this system as a part of a larger Moog Modular set-up, which explains why the configuration is not quite late 1970s factory stock.

Our client (the current owner) had commissioned KSR to undertake a full system-wide overhaul of the entire instrument, to prepare it for sale. The restoration included refinishing all the cabinets as well, so the fit & finish on this 40+-year-old Moog is sublime, and of course, it works flawlessly.

This is THE mother of all synthesizers and although there are a plethora of analogue instruments in modular format to choose from these days (which is wonderful), nothing will hold the mystique, power and sheer collectability of an original Moog. These Vintage Moogs come with very strong & proven investment potential, so aside from being outstanding music instruments, they keep giving in other ways also.

The System 55 was the last of the great “walls-of-Moog” and this system being from around 1976, represents the most stable and reliable in terms of module build versions. This particular System 55 has clearly been lovingly cared for, for 40+ years.

Notes on the cosmetic condition:

All cabinets and control surfaces on the main synth sections are in excellent and original condition. The RA Moog 950 keyboard & Garage have their original wood cabinets which are also in excellent condition, although all the cabinets do have a few signs of natural ageing and use, however, the keys are undamaged, having an even colour. The module faceplates themselves are in excellent condition (as are the internal circuits) but there are inevitable signs of some wear from around the locating screws, although this is something we would expect to see in a modular system of this age.

The top cabinet did not come with a rear-enclosure board fitted. Many modulars of this age do not have rear-covers, but KSR have offered to manufacture and fit one if the buyer of the system would like one fitted. There would be no charge for this, but the top cabinet would need to go back to KSR to have that carried out.

We would rate the whole system as 9 out of 10 cosmetically – collector grade.

Notes on the restoration:

An IEC socket was fitted as standard on these late 70s systems. The power-supply has been completely reconditioned, it runs on US 110V or EU 220V, although set on EU 220V whilst here in the UK of course.

All the 1/4 inch jack-sockets have been replaced with high-quality Switchcraft® panel mount sockets to improve connectivity. KSR implemented this upgrade with the owner’s permission as 40+-year-old sockets can be very intermittent in connection, regardless of cleaning, and this can be very frustrating for users of voltage controlled/audio systems like these.

Each and every module and been tested, cleaned & calibrated, and where necessary, any decoupling (power regulation) caps replaced. The 950 Keyboard has been stripped and completely overhauled, with every key cleaned, and the key-bed & contacts cleaned.

All Cinch-Jones S-Trig connectors cleaned/deoxidised.
Wiring loom integrity checked.

Other than the items noted above, no components that affected the sound character of the Moog were replaced (or needed to be in fact). We retained the original knobs though as these are a major cosmetic component to the aesthetic of this authentic vintage instrument.

Thousands of pounds have been spent on the restoration work which has taken Kent Spong of KSR, over 3 months to complete.

Arp 2600C

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK customer

Came into stock: Arrived at RL Music on 15th February 2018

Restoration Status: A full service by KSR has already been carried out (completed in February 2018), so this Arp 2600 is ready for sale now.

Remarks: We have a remarkable opportunity for you to own a true one-off example of what is considered to be one of the finest vintage synths ever made – the Arp 2600, but with a lot of extra added value. The ‘C’ is for Custom!

Standard Arp 2600 features: Semi-normalised – 3 VCOs (4027=1), 4 pole Lowpass VCF (4012), VCA, Ring Modulator, 2 EGs, sample & hold Noise, Mic Preamp, Spring Reverb, Voltage Processor and Four Octave Keyboard….the list goes on. This is an Arp 2600 (2600P V3.0). There is no Keyboard controller included with this sale.

What is different about this Arp 2600?

Wood Cabinet: As you can see from the pictures below, our client decided to have a custom Walnut cabinet made (by Lamond Design) in 2017 for the synth, replacing the original plywood/tolexed case. the cabinet was hand-made by Ross Lamond and finished (stained and waxed) by Kent Spong at KSR. The results are sublime, and as far as we know, this is unique…stunning! All the metal hardware was also replaced with the black anodised fittings to the case. KSR spent 4 days carrying out this highly skilled work.

Metal Control Panel: The main control panel has been stripped, repainted and screen printed to produce an ‘as new’ finish. This is expensive and very time-consuming work and the panel restoration was completed at the end of 2017. KSR had to strip down the Arp completely so the panel could be sent away for the cosmetic treatment, so the synth has been fully rebuilt by KSR and serviced – around 50 hours work in total (not including the cabinet refinishing work).

Modifications by CMS (Phil Cirocco): Our client commission CMS in the USA to carry out some mods on this Arp 2600, so here is a list of what’s been done to this synth:
>Variable octave switches and pot for all 3 VCOs, range of 2 octaves
>Sync switches 2-3, 3
>17″ reverb tank upgrade
>1/4″ input and outputs (main in/outs)
>Upgraded PSU – running EU 220V
>All sliders were chemically cleaned and lubricated, VCO trimmers replaced
Our client spent over $2000 USD with CMS for these modifications in 2017 – to find out more about CMS then please click this link: http://www.discretesynthesizers.com/arptronics/arp2600.htm

Our client has invested thousands of pounds on having this Arp 2600 prepared to such a high standard and it certainly stands out as a unique and stunningly beautiful example. The sales price does reflect the investment made and quality of the finish, the technical preparation by two of the industries leading vintage synth specialists, and finally, the warranty sold by RL Music on this instrument. We think it’s fair to say that there’s a fair amount of extra value with this machine.

This custom rebuilt Arp 2600 operates on EU 220V. it’s sold with a 6-month warranty. Included in the sale is proprietary Arp power-cable, and we will also include a PDF copy of the user manual.

Price: £8500 GBP.

Availability: This custom rebuilt Arp 2600 is available for sale now.

Arp 2600 Tonus &...

We are Brokering this Arp 2600 Tonus & 3604-p keyboard for and on behalf of our UK client.

Came into stock: Available from RL Music from 20th March 2018

Restoration/Servicing Status: KSR will fully service this Arp 2600 post-sale.

We present the stunning and iconic early-1970s Arp 2600 semi-modular which contains the sought after (and so-called) pre-lawsuit Moog 4012 style filter. This instrument is around 45 years old and just looks and sounds absolutely amazing.

This very early Arp 2600 Tonus, with original 4012 Filter + 3604P Keyboard controller, features: Semi-normalised – 3 VCOs, 4 pole Lowpass VCF, VCA, Ring Modulator, 2 EGs, sample & hold Noise, Mic Preamp, Spring Reverb, Voltage Processor and Four Octave Keyboard….the list goes on

We previously sold this actual Arp 2600 Tonus back in 2009 to our client we are Brokering it for, so it’s great to see the synth back again looking so beautiful still. The ‘Total Restoration’ work restoration was also carried out in 2009 on this Arp, and covered all cosmetic and operations aspect of the synth, details as follows:

Notes on the cosmetic condition:

The control surfaces/panels on the synth & keyboard were stripped, repainted and screen-printed. The Tolex covering and bright-work was in need of restoration (as is common on the old Arp systems), so KSR re-Tolex’d both units, and replaced all the exterior nickel-plated components. The Keys on the 3604-P were in good shape, so where kept original to retain that authentic vintage ageing across the key-bed.

Notes on the restoration:

Aside the repainting, screen-printing, re-Tolexing and replacement of the exterior brightwork mentioned above, the operational restoration on the 2600 was extensive, and mostly all Arp 2600 systems we see these days need this level of attention. KSR had undertaken a complete ground-up rebuild of the electronics with full test and calibrations and PSU rebuild etc. Each and every slider was split apart, cleaned and rebuilt, every jack cleaned & tested, and a system-wide check of all connectors, and solder joints etc. The keyboard was stripped an completely overhauled, and new busting fitted etc. Where possible, all the original parts were retained to ensure continuity and authenticity but some ageing components like power conditioning caps have been replaced, but only were absolutely necessary.

In the last 9 years since the Arp 2600 was restored by us, the synth was used and kept at home with our UK client, who has taken great care of it. The cosmetic and operational condition is perfect and the same as the day we handed it to them.

This is a fantastic opportunity to buy one of the most iconic vintage synths ever made, and the price has been agreed with our client to keep it very competitive, and incomparable to any Arp 2600 being sold anywhere in the world right now…it’s a Total Restoration RL Music vintage synth, after all!

The original 3604P keyboard is useful, and is a historically correct partner for this model of 2600, and has had a modification to the output connector as you can see in the pictures. KSR actually implemented the DIN socket mod, which is a much more reliable connection than the propriety Arp block connector which was always a weak link in the chain we have found. in reality, the 3604-P offers limited access to the extensive inputs into the main synth, so to get the most out of the 2600 we would recommend using a multi-channel Midi to CV device like the Kenton Pro-2000 which can give you 3 note polyphonic control if needed. We can supply a Kenton Pro-200 but is not included in the sales price below, so please ask us for prices.

These outstanding synthesizers are hard to find in decent condition, so here is a rare opportunity to own a superb fully professionally restored example that will only appreciate in value and add something special to your studio.

Supplied with all (restored/Tolexed) lids and DIN CV/Gate interconnect cable. The Arp runs on EU 220V via a standard IEC power connector. We will also supply an Arp 2600 owners manual (PDF).

As with all Brokered Sales, the Arp 2600 will be fully serviced post-sale before it’s sent to its new owner, although this synth really only needs a ‘health-check’ as it’s in such good condition throughout. We do this to ensure that the instrument leaves us in perfect operational condition, and it is backed up by our full 3-month warranty to give the new owner complete peace of mind. The servicing is carried out as a priority once the sale has been completed, and although it will delay shipping/delivery by a short time, we know from experience that customers are happy to wait.

Price: £7990 GBP.

Availability: This Arp 2600 Tonus is now SOLD as at 23rd March 2018.

EMS Synth A Mk2

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our customer

Came into stock: October 2017.

Restoration Status: A full service by KSR has already been carried out (completed on 1st November 2017), so this instrument is ready for sale now.

We’re delighted to be able to offer an EMS Synthi A Mk2 to our customers who want to experience a vintage EMS but don’t need the extra expense/facility of the KS (Keyboard/Sequencer) that the AKS model offers.

Identical to the Synthi AKS (synth) in sound & operation, the Synthi A is the ultimate portable synth, packaged in the same Spartanite case and offering the endless programming possibilities through the matrix panel interface. EMS originally named the Synth A the “Portabella” which followed the naming conventions of its early synths like the “Putney (VCS3 Mk1)” and Cricklewood (DK1) keyboard etc.

The EMS Synthi A was first brought to the market by EMS the same year as Moog launched the Model D Minimoog to the world – an auspicious year for synth fans indeed! This example we are offering for sale is a later revision, an Mk2, and was manufactured during the Datamonics company ownership period which would have been between 1979 to 1982. The Mk2 Synth A is usually identifiable but the power-conditioning components used internally, but the metal silver anodised panel is another way to quickly identify them, as the earlier (Mk1) versions were usually painted (white), although there may have been some cross-over.

Provenance
Our client literally rescued this Synthi A from a London school back in the late 1990s who were throwing it out, and the synth bears the marks of this being a genuine educational tool for children. You will see from the anodised metal panel that it was been hand-inscribed with “ILEA” and other markings. Most people in the UK would recognise that as meaning “Inner London Education Authority” – so this synth has faithfully served fresh young minds in its time, and perhaps even enthused a few (like we were back in the day) to take their love of synthesis further into adulthood….bravo!

Our client has used this instrument regularly since the 90s and even gigged with it for a few years in London, so this synth is not a ‘glass-case’ collector’s item by far, but to many people that brings its own appeal and means it has a genuine evidenced history & story to tell.
_______

At some time in the life of the instrument, an IEC power socket was fitted to the synth. The implementation is good. We assume that the use of the usual proprietary EMS power-cable was a problem for the school as these easily get lost, so someone fitted the IEC to it.

As this instrument is nearly 40 years old, and quite commonly, it did not come to us any significant service history from our client. We commissioned KSR to carry out an extensive ground-up overhaul to bring it up to a perfect operating specification, whilst ensuring its authenticity is preserved as much as possible. Electronic instruments of this age need a deep level of restoration, but we approach this kind of work sympathetically.

The restoration time & resources invested into this instrument by KSR include:

>Strip-down of panels & Spartanite case.
>Spartanite case deep-cleaned, re-finished & all hardware cleaned.
>Control Panels deep-cleaned.
>Every control component (potentiometers/switches/matrix panel), cleaned & lubricated
>Power-Supply re-capped & calibrated.
>Full system-wide calibration & soak-test.

The above restorative work is the minimum we asked KSR to carry out as they would all need this level of attention due to their age, but In addition to the above, the following work can also be carried out by request. This is a costed option, so is not included in the sales price listed at the bottom of this page:

*VCO stabilisation modification implemented in line with EMS guidelines = £400 GBP

*This Synthi A comes with a full complement of matrix pins, although to be honest, these original 38-year-old pins are well past there best so we would recommend you also purchase a brand new (full) set of matrix pins (supplied from EMS) for = £250 GBP

Our client did not ask us to get get the panels re-anodised/screen-printed as they always felt it’s history was an intrinsic part of the life of the synth, so it comes as it was used and intended for – an educational instrument in the 1970s with a genuine provenance. However, if you prefer to purchase this Synth A and then want to have the panels refinished (re-anodised/screen-printed) to look like new, then this is possible of course, so please contact us for a quote to have this carried out.

This instrument operates on EU 220V. The instrument is sold with a 3-month warranty from RL Music and we will also include a user manual in PDF format and a UK-plug IEC power cable.

Price: £7200 GBP.

Availability: This Synthi A Mk2 is now SOLD on reserve as at 28th March 2018.

Moog Source

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK customer

Came into stock: Available from RL Music from 1st March 2018

Restoration/Servicing Status: KSR have fully serviced this in February 2018, so it’s ready for sale now.

Remarks: We’ve not had a Moog Source in for a while so it’s been great fun diving into this machine again and hearing that distinctive vintage Moog sound. The 16 memory storage was quite a departure for Moog back in 1981 as they had not previously offered patch storage on a mono synth before, and the modern membrane panel design was also revolutionary for Moog at that time. It’s a super sounding machine and has a great many fans, but with prices going up in recent years it’s ‘value’ has been under pressure somewhat, so we are pleased to offer this example at an amazing price!

Moog Source: model #341 BX, S/N 2237X.

Our client, the owner of this Moog Source, purchased it in 1985 and it was used regularly until the late 1990s in his studio, after which it was stored away in its flight-case for a few years. It was later brought out in 2012 and used again up until 2015, so has been a reliable and trustworthy synth for decades.

The synth is in perfect operational condition and has just had a full service from KSR. Cosmetically, this is certainly not a collectors machine but it has been in regular use for most of its life, showing signs of expected wear and some marks to the control surfaces, but most importantly, the membrane, controls & keys all work perfectly and are undamaged – as you will see from the pictures we have taken (below). The price reflects the cosmetic condition, so has been agreed with our client to represent the best value Moog Source you can buy in the world today and they want a new owner to enjoy the amazing sound and character that this vintage Moog offers.

This Moog Source is sold with a 3 month RL Music warranty, runs on EU 220V and is supplied with its original hard-copy owners manual.

Price: £1490 GBP.

Availability: This Moog Source is now SOLD on reserve as at 6th March 2018.
