Moog System 12

‘Rare’ doesn’t come close to describing how few and far between these vintage original Moog Modulars are these days, and owners are simply hanging on to them whilst all the reissues from the new Moog company are making their transition into the market. The fact remains that savvy owners truly appreciate the historic value of these genuine ‘Bob Moog’ manufactured instruments, and why this lineage is what really counts at the end of the day, both emotionally, historically and commercially speaking – certainly in investment terms.

So why are we selling this beautiful Moog Modular System 12?

Well, this example comes from the RL Music private collection and has been fully professionally restored in 2015. We are releasing this for sale as we already own 3 other vintage Moog Modulars, and would like to raise some capital for some new vintage modular projects we have planned for this year, so here is a golden opportunity for someone looking to own a genuine piece of synthesizer history.

There is a considerable volume of material written about the amazing Bob Moog and his ground breaking synthesizer designs from the 60s and 70s. Also, we all appreciate the outstanding sonic capabilities of these amazing instruments and why Bob Moog’s synthesizers changed the world, but to cut to the chase, here are the facts about this System 12 we have for sale.

Background history that we have:

The Moog System 12 unit has serial # 1039 and features some early ‘RA Moog’ modules from the time the Moog factory was located in Trumansburg, NY, and some modules with the later ‘Moog Music used after the move to Williamsburg. This is actually quite normal for these models as the assembly/manufacture date was around the early 1970s, so there would have been some RA Moog modules still available to use when assembling these systems. This puts an approximate age on this System 12 at 44 years old…not bad!

In the 1970s this System 12 belonged to the synthesist Jan Ternald of the Swedish psychedelic rock band Älgarnas Trädgård. After that, it ended up for unknown reasons in a small demo studio in Stockholm where it was left unused and forgotten until it was found and purchased by the last owner in 1984 (of whom RL Music purchased it from in 2015). It was mounted in custom-made flight cases in 1989 to allow touring and live performances. The original live setup also included two Mini Moogs, both stripped of the keyboards and mounted as rack modules, and an oscilloscope + a guitar tuner.

The system was then located in a recording studio in Stockholm, Sweden, and used in numerous productions until 1999. The last owner bought the System 12 to London In 2010 where it was located in the studio of an audio design company – it was continuous use (and professionally maintained) until it was sold to RL Music in 2015.

Modifications of note:

The two 921B oscillator modules have at some time prior to 1984 been modified by replacement of the original potentiometers with 10-round precision pots.

An IEC socket was fitted sometime during the lifetime of the System 12 to enable the system to be used in the EU. The power-supply is rated to 220V, so it’s possible it was produced for the EU market by Moog, but we’re fairly sure that these systems were supplied with the standard 3-pin US power-socket from the factory back in the early 70s, so the IEC socket is more useful for EU users.

The System 12 arrived at RL Music without its original lid (lost over the years), so we have had a new one manufactured by Lamond Design, and then the whole system has been re-tolexed, with new nickel-plated hardware fitted by KSR in the UK to finish off.

All the 1/4 inch jack-sockets have been replaced with high-quality Switchcraft® panel mount sockets to improve connectivity. We decided to implement this upgrade as 44-year-old sockets can be very intermittent in connection, regardless of cleaning, and this can be very frustrating for users of voltage controlled/audio systems like these.

Restoration notes:

Our vintage Moog restoration expert, Kent Spong of KSR, undertook an extensive ground-up restoration on the System 12 during 2015. Other than the items noted above in the ‘modifications’ paragraph, no components that affected the sound character of the Moog were replaced (or needed to be in fact). We retained the original knobs though as these are a major cosmetic component to the aesthetic of this authentic vintage instrument.

We will service this System 12 prior to shipping to the new owener, so please expect a hort delay of up to 2 weeks post-sale before it can be shipped out.

2 Voice Pro

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK customer

Came into stock: Available from RL Music from 10th November 2017

Restoration/Servicing Status: KSR to service once sold, and prior to shipping to the new owner.

Remarks: Not a vintage synth but it’s a hand-built analogue synth that comes from a strong vintage heritage and masterfully reissued by the original designer – Tom Oberheim. The 2 Voice Pro is a beautiful and faithful recreation of Tom’s classic SEM based synth, but with a modern twist to deliver a cracking little analogue synth.

This Tom Oberheim 2 Voice Pro was purchased new by our client in July 2015 (imported in from the USA from the retailer Analog Haven) and has sat in his smoke-free home studio in the UK since with very little use, hence the decision to sell it to fund new projects.

The synth is in perfect operational condition and is in near mint cosmetic condition, as you would expect for something 2 years old, but it has been in use so it’s not brand new. We will have the synth fully checked over post-sale for prudence, but this is a fully working and immaculate instrument. It will be supplied with the original owners manual and retail box (as pictured), plus IEC power cable and some 3.5mm jacks that came with the synth.

These are a limited production run model and set to rise in value once all production has ceased, so this is a good opportunity to save a considerable sum against the cost of buying a brand new one today.

Sound On Sound magazine featured an in-depth review of the 2 Voice Pro, written by one of the most knowledgeable & experienced synth reviewers on the planet – Gordon Reid. Please click the link below to read the article:

https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/tom-oberheim-two-voice-pro

There’s also another fantastic review by greatsynthesizers.com which is also worth a read, plus they include some sound samples at the end of the article, so please click the link below to read this article:

As with all Brokered Sales, the synth will be fully serviced post-sale before it’s sent to its new owner. We do this to ensure that the instrument leaves us in perfect operational condition, and it is backed up by our full warranty to give the new owner complete peace of mind. The servicing is carried out as a priority once the sale has been completed, and although it will delay shipping/delivery by a short time, we know from experience that customers are happy to wait.

This Tom Oberheim 2 Voice Pro is sold with a 3 month RL Music warranty and runs on either 110V or 220V (adaptive PSU).

Price: £3300 GBP.

Availability: This 2 Voice Pro is available for sale now and can be reserved on deposit (20%).

Came into stock: Available from RL Music from 6th November 2017

Restoration/Servicing Status: KSR to service once sold, and prior to shipping to the new owner.

Remarks: Not a vintage synth, but the Studio Electronics Code 8 has a mighty reputation and is a proper discrete-built analogue poly synth – a serious pro-audio instrument, and a modern classic without any doubt.

This CODE 8 was purchased new buy our client in 2013 from sxpro in London, and was fitted with the 8 x Arp 2600 Filters and the 8 x CS80 Filters upgrade options. It has never been racked, and has sat in his smoke free home studio in the UK since with very little use, hence the decision to sell it to fund new projects.

The synth is in perfect operational and the main control surface is in mint cosmetic condition, as you would expect for something 4 years old, although there are some marks on the large printed logo on the top of the instrument. We will have the synth fully checked over post-sale. It will be supplied with the original owners manual and retail box (as pictured).

EMS Synth A Mk2

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our customer

Came into stock: October 2017.

Restoration Status: A full service by KSR has already been carried out (completed on 1st November 2017), so this instrument is ready for sale now.

We’re delighted to be able to offer an EMS Synthi A Mk2 to our customers who want to experience a vintage EMS but don’t need the extra expense/facility of the KS (Keyboard/Sequencer) that the AKS model offers.

Identical to the Synthi AKS (synth) in sound & operation, the Synthi A is the ultimate portable synth, packaged in the same Spartanite case and offering the endless programming possibilities through the matrix panel interface. EMS originally named the Synth A the “Portabella” which followed the naming conventions of its early synths like the “Putney (VCS3 Mk1)” and Cricklewood (DK1) keyboard etc.

The EMS Synthi A was first brought to the market by EMS the same year as Moog launched the Model D Minimoog to the world – an auspicious year for synth fans indeed! This example we are offering for sale is a later revision, a Mk2, and was manufactured during the Datamonics company ownership period which would have been between 1979 to 1982. The Mk2 Synth A is usually identifiable but the power-conditioning components used internally, but the metal silver anodised panel is another way to quickly identify them, as the earlier (Mk1) versions were usually painted (white), although there may have been some cross-over.

Provenance
Our client literally rescued this Synthi A from a London school back in the late 1990s who were throwing it out, and the synth bears the marks of this being a genuine educational tool for children. You will see from the anodised metal panel that it was been hand-inscribed with “ILEA” and other markings. Most people in the UK would recognise that as meaning “Inner London Education Authority” – so this synth has faithfully served fresh young minds in its time, and perhaps even enthused a few (like we were back in the day) to take their love of synthesis further into adulthood….bravo!

Our client has used this instrument regularly since the 90s and even gigged with it for a few years in London, so this synth is not a ‘glass-case’ collector’s item by far, but to many people that brings its own appeal and means it has a genuine evidenced history & story to tell.
_______

At some time in the life of the instrument, an IEC power socket was fitted to the synth. The implementation is good. We assume that the use of the usual proprietary EMS power-cable was a problem for the school as these easily get lost, so someone fitted the IEC to it.

As this instrument is nearly 40 years old, and quite commonly, it did not come to us any significant service history from our client. We commissioned KSR to carry out an extensive ground-up overhaul to bring it up to a perfect operating specification, whilst ensuring its authenticity is preserved as much as possible. Electronic instruments of this age need a deep level of restoration, but we approach this kind of work sympathetically.

The restoration time & resources invested into this instrument by KSR include:

>Strip-down of panels & Spartanite case.
>Spartanite case deep-cleaned, re-finished & all hardware cleaned.
>Control Panels deep-cleaned.
>Every control component (potentiometers/switches/matrix panel), cleaned & lubricated
>Power-Supply re-capped & calibrated.
>Full system-wide calibration & soak-test.

The above restorative work is the minimum we asked KSR to carry out as they would all need this level of attention due to their age, but In addition to the above, the following work can also be carried out by request. This is a costed option, so is additional to the sales price listed at the bottom of this page:

*VCO stabilisation modification implemented in line with EMS guidelines = £400 GBP

*This Synthi A comes with a full complement of matrix pins, although to be honest, these original 38-year-old pins are well past there best so we would recommend you also purchase a brand new (full) set of matrix pins (supplied from EMS) for = £250 GBP

Our client did not ask us to get get the panels re-anodised/screen-printed as they always felt it’s history was an intrinsic part of the life of the synth, so it comes as it was used and intended for – an educational instrument in the 1970s with a genuine provenance. However, if you prefer to purchase this Synth A and then want to have the panels refinished (re-anodised/screen-printed) to look like new, then this is possible of course, so please contact us for a quote to have this carried out.

This instrument operates on EU 220V. The instrument is sold with a 3-month warranty from RL Music and we will also include a user manual in PDF format and a UK-plug IEC power cable.

Price: £10,500 UK Pounds

Rhodes Chroma

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our customer

Came into stock: September 2017.

Restoration Status: A full service by KSR has already been carried out (completed on 11th October 2017), so this Chroma is ready for sale now.

Remarks: We’re are delighted to be able to offer you this rare Rhodes Chroma from our current stock list. This particular example being customer-owned is in very good and all original condition throughout.

This customer owned machine does NOT have the CC+ CPU upgrade so is priced accordingly, but the restoration work we commit to in preparing these machines for sale remains the same regardless.

This particular example came to us from a UK customer. The Chroma had been owned & used by their family member – Kwame Kwaten from D-Influence, and he played it on Funky Times, Hypnotise and Hold On. D’Influence is a British production team and acid jazz band. You can hear these tracks in the following links (audio only):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRFIpaHALxg Funky Times

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEhGZI_eLes Hypnotise

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQUpgS4Uk4A Hold On

The Chroma needed a full overhaul, which KSR has meticulously carried out, and additionally treated all the cosmetics like the (lighter coloured wood grain) wood cabinet and other surfaces. The Chroma’s laminate front-panel is in very good condition across the main control surface with only some minor cracking showing around the left-hand side screw-points (see pictures below). The now re-finished wood cabinet itself is in great condition, and shows a nice aged patina, with only the front left-hand corner with some damage of note.

You can see for yourself from the pictures we took (below) that the cosmetic condition is remarkable for a 35-year-old instrument, and we would grade this as “very good original condition – 8.5 out of 10 cosmetically.’

KSR, our vintage synth restorers, have gone through the entire system in great depth on the Chroma to ensure everything is 100% perfect operationally. At some point in the synths life, a heat-sink was added to the rear of the instrument – this is actually not such a bad thing to have, and had been implemented well.

The patches already loaded onto the synth are really nice as well and show the current owner (our client) has a deep understanding of how to properly programme these beautiful sounding vintage synths.

The Chroma is a very well loved and supported vintage model within the synth community. Chris Ryan has an excellent website dedicated to the model which has been an excellent source of knowledge and support generally: rhodeschroma.com

This Rhodes Chroma is sold with a 3-month warranty and operates on EU 220V. User & service manuals can be sourced from the rhodeschroma.com website as mentioned above. This Chroma is also supplied with its original dual-pedal controls (pictured below).

Price: £6500 GBP.

Availability: This Rhodes Chroma is available for sale now.

Yamaha CS70M

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our customer

Came into stock: September 2017.

Restoration Status: A full service by KSR has already been carried out (completed on 11th October 2017), so this CS70M is ready for sale now.

Remarks: We’re excited to be able to get hold of this really lovely condition CS70M as they really are quite magnificent synths for a whole number of reasons. These were proper old-school designed hybrid digital/analogue systems made between 1981 and 1984, and it wasn’t long after these came out that the DX7 was introduced, which seems hard to believe really.

The CS70M has for many people been overlooked, or perhaps overshadowed by it’s bigger brother – the CS80, but this instrument has ascended in popularity among aficionados, and we know this synth is highly sought after by those who truly appreciate it.

6 Voice, dual channel (stereo), aftertouch, 30 memories, ring-mod, chorus & Leslie effects, lowpass, highpass, and bandpass VCF, fully programmable and with a 4 channel polyphonic sequencer etc.

Those in the know will already tell you that this is one of the finest analogue polys ever made and a work of audio art in its own right. It shares most of the same technology as the CS80 and many of the characteristics and tonal qualities as well. The other big ‘Hello’ is also the fact you can get really close to the CS80 sound for a lot less money…this makes it even more appealing considering the price.

The UK owner we are selling this magnificent machine for has owned it for over a decade and the synth has been in regular use during that time, with periodic maintenance carried out to keep it in top workmen order. MIDI has already been retrofitted to this CS70M, which adds a lot of value when integrating into a modern studio setup.

The cosmetic condition of this example is extremely good overall with only light user wear & natural aging to the control surfaces. The faux wood laminate cabinet it in very good order with only a couple of spots where this has been worn. We would grade this is “very good original condition – 8.5 out of 10 cosmetically.’

Operationally, our trusted ‘Yamaha CS Series’ restoration experts – KSR have already carried out a full service on the CS70M, so it’s 100% perfectly working and ready for its new owner.

There are a few demos on YT of these but we like this rather ambient-noodling one from ‘MoreAnalog’ because it demonstrates nicely how the CS70M has the CS80 vibe we are talking about: https://youtu.be/1_jy9ERBTPs

This CS70M is sold through RL Music with a 3-month warranty and can operate on US 110V or EU 220V. Also, we can supply a PDF photocopy of the user manual, and of course, the proprietary Yamaha power-cable.

Price: £6990 GBP

Moog System 55

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK customer

Came into stock: Arrived at RL Music in April 2017

Restoration Status: A full cosmetic and operational restoration by KSR has already been carried out (completed in 23rd August 2017), so this Vintage Original System 55 is ready for sale now.

Remarks: We have been granted a unique opportunity here as these Vintage Original Moog System 55 (with RA Moog 950 Keyboard & Garage) are super rare instruments, and highly sought after. We weren’t given a lot of detailed background information on this system other than the last owner purchased it from a well known Moog collector in Italy several years ago. The Italian musician/collector used this system as a part of a larger Moog Modular set-up, which explains why the configuration is not quite late 1970s factory stock.

Our client (the current owner) had commissioned KSR to undertake a full systems-wide overhaul of the entire instrument, to prepare it for sale. The restoration included refinishing all the cabinets as well, so the fit & finish on this 40+ year old Moog is sublime, and of course, it works flawlessly.

This is THE mother of all synthesizers and although there are a plethora of analogue instruments in modular format to choose from these days (which is wonderful), nothing will hold the mystique, power and sheer collectability of an original Moog. These Vintage Moogs come with very strong & proven investment potential, so aside being outstanding music instruments, they keep giving in other ways also.

The System 55 was the last of the great “walls-of-Moog” and this system being from around 1976, represents the most stable and reliable in terms of module build versions. This particular System 55 has clearly been lovingly cared for, for 40+ years.

Notes on the cosmetic condition:

All cabinets and control surfaces on the main synth sections are in excellent and original condition. The RA Moog 950 keyboard & Garage have their original wood cabinets which are also in excellent condition, although all the cabinets do have a few signs of natural ageing and use, but the keys are undamaged, having an even colour. The module faceplates themselves are in excellent condition (as are the internal circuits) but there are inevitable signs of some wear from around the locating screws, although this is something we would expect to see in a modular system of this age.

The top cabinet did not come with a rear-enclosure board fitted. Many modulars of this age do not have rear-covers, but KSR have offered to manufacture and fit one if the buyer of the system would like one fitted. There would be no charge for this, but the top cabinet would need to go back to KSR to have that carried out.

We would rate the whole system as 9 out of 10 cosmetically – collector grade.

Notes on the restoration:

An IEC socket was fitted as standard on these late 70s systems. The power-supply has been completely reconditioned, it runs on US 110V or EU 220V, although set on EU 220V whilst here in the UK of course.

All the 1/4 inch jack-sockets have been replaced with high-quality Switchcraft® panel mount sockets to improve connectivity. KSR implemented this upgrade with the owners permission as 40+ year old sockets can be very intermittent in connection, regardless of cleaning, and this can be very frustrating for users of voltage controlled/audio systems like these.

Each and every module and been tested, cleaned & calibrated, and where necessary, any decoupling (power regulation) caps replaced. The 950 Keyboard has been stripped and completely overhauled, with every key cleaned, and the key-bed & contacts cleaned.

All Cinch-Jones S-Trig connectors cleaned/deoxidised.
Wiring loom integrity checked.

Other than the items noted above, no components that effected the sound character of the Moog were replaced (or needed to be in fact). We retained the original knobs though as these are a major cosmetic component to the aesthetic of this authentic vintage instrument.

Thousands of pounds have been spent on the restoration work which has taken Kent Spong of KSR, over 3 months to complete.

Module configuration as follows:

1 x 914 Fixed Filter Bank
1 x 992 Control Voltages

Korg PS3200

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK customer

Came into stock:  3rd March 2017.

Restoration Status: KSR to service once sold, and prior to shipping to the new owner. This PS3200 is in perfect working condition, but the servicing work is standard on all our vintage synths for sale, although it is more akin to a ‘health-check’ on a instrument of this fine condition.

Remarks: We are delighted to present a very rare opportunity to own a true vintage classic – the Korg PS3200. Our client has not owned the Korg for more than a few years, but it has been well cared for in their own home studio during their ownership. Prior to this the Korg was owned by UK synth collector. The cosmetic condition of the control panels & original wood-veneer cabinets for both the synth & the PS-3010 48-key Polyphonic Keyboard Controller are very good, with only minimal wear for an instrument of this age, and operationally it’s perfectly working. The PS3200 has clearly been very well looked after throughout its 40 year life, and likely regularly serviced as well, although we will carry out a further service on the synth for the new owner.

A couple of items of note:
There is a the non original knob on the PS-3010 Keyboard. The original Korg potentiometer is intact, so we can only assume at some time in the past, the large Korg control knob has been lost and replaced with the one you can see in the pictures below. Also, the battery cover at the rear of the synth is missing. Not huge problems in the scheme of things, but we’re just noting these for full disclosure.

The PS3200 is a fully polyphonic, 16 memory semi-modular system incorporating divide-down technology driving 2 VCO’s and micro tuning ability. The technical specification aside, this instrument defines the word “ambient” and has the most wonderful warm, rich and characterful sound that any vintage polysynth can deliver….a truly unique machine.

The semi-modular nature of the PS3200 provides some fascinating routing options for “polyphonic” sound design, and the remote keyboard offers a number of performance features within the CV/Gate domain.

This PS3200 operates on US 110V, but comes with a EU 220V converter – it will be sold with a 3 month warranty. Included with the sale is the original PS-3001 60-pin locking connection cable, and of course the proprietary power-cable. We will also include a PDF copy of the user manual.

Sales Price: £10900 GBP.

EMS VCS3 Mk1

We are Brokering this VCS3 Mk1 “The Putney” for and on their behalf of our UK customer.

Restoration Status: Restoration has been completed by our Service Partner – KSR (Kent Spong Restorations) on 22nd September 2016.

Remarks: So how about owning an early 1970s Mk1 Putney – one of the most sought after synthesizers in the world! We very rarely have these in stock, and having a 45 year old historic music instrument in our possession is always an honour and privilege.

This iconic, and historically important, synthesizer comes from a time when the whole concept of electronic music instruments was in its infancy. This VCS3 would have been made around the time that the first Minimoog appeared to the world, and only a few years after the first Moog modular was created for musicians…wonderous times indeed for electronic music.

We are Brokering this amazing instrument for our UK client, a music teacher (retired), who had acquired it from college music department disposal some 30 years or so ago, and the VCS3 had been kept boxed up by the owner and unused in all that time. Upon first inspection, KSR noted that the VCS3 was in great condition internally, so it has been well maintained during it’s working life an an EM education tool in the 1970s. The overall condition is very good in fact, so post-restoration this will present beautifully, although there is a serial number etched into the rear-panel (photo’s will be supplied to show this), but it’s at the back and quite normal to see on these education supplied synths. Many VCS3 from this period come from education establishments, so it adds really interesting provence and context we think.

As this VCS3 Mk1 ‘Putney’ has been in storage for quite a while, we had asked KSR to carry out an extensive ground-up restoration to bring it back to its former glory, whilst ensuring we preserved their authenticity at the same time. Electronic instruments of this age need a deep level of restoration, but we approach this kind of work sympathetically.

The time & resources invested into this instrument will include:

>Strip-down of every component, panels, cabinet
>Original wood cabinet sympathetically re-finished by hand (preserving patina).
>Control Panels deep-cleaned (vary carefully).
>Every control component (potentiometers/switches/matrix panel) stripped, cleaned & lubricated
>Power-Supply re-capped & calibrated.
>Brand new Matrix Pin set (from EMS).
>Brand new power cable (from EMS).
>Full system-wide test & calibration.

The above restoration work is the minimum we are investing into the instruments.

In addition to the above, the following work can also be carried out by request. This is a costed options, so is additional to the sales prices listed at the bottom of this page:

*VCO stabilisation modification implemented in line with EMS guidelines = £400 GBP

As mentioned above, we have already purchased a a brand new (full) set of matrix pins, supplied from EMS, for this VCS3, and a new power-cable. The new matrix pins will ensure a strong continuity of contact in the Matrix Panel.

Inevitably, there are some parts that will need replacement (mostly ageing capacitors). We always work alongside EMS technical guidelines to ensure we can keep the authenticity of these 45+ year old synths intact, so no components that would effect the sound will be changed unless we absolutely have too, and even then, we will only source NOS parts from the same production era.

Also, we have not replaced the original cabinet, or get the panels repainted/screen-printed, so both instruments are kept 100% original. However, if you prefer to purchase this VCS3 MK1 and then want to have th panels refinished (repainted/screen-printed) to look perfect then this is possible of course, so please contact us for a quote to have this carried out.

As you can see from the pictures, The presentation is excellent considering this synth is 45 years old, and it offers an excellent investment if you have been looking for a ‘keeper’ for your own collection.

RA Minimoog

RA Minimoog – Serial Number: 1112

By the end of 1970, the now incorporated R.A. Moog Inc. introduced the Minimoog, manufactured in Trumansburg NY. The first of all the subsequent Model D Minimoogs ever made were called the ‘RA Minimoog’ named so after after Robert (Arthur) Moog’s initials.

http://www.moogmusic.com/legacy/ra-moog-co-trumansburg-factory

We present you with a 1971 manufactured RA Minimoog, now available for sale.

This truly historic instrument has the fabled & early designed matched transistor ladder filter. It has its original clear perspex mod-wheel housing and metal facia. The control knobs look like they have been replaced at some time in the past as they are very clean indeed, too clean for a 45 year old Moog, but that’s not a bad thing in any way. There is a faded old sticker on the rear-panel with the serial number #1112 on.

It has to be one of many peoples life dream to own such an extraordinary instrument, and we are no different. Ordinarily an historic instrument of this rarity and value is kept locked away, but we are delighted to be able to have this available for you to own and appreciate (in every sense of the word).

It’s quite possible that Bob Moog himself had a hand in the assembly of this particular Minimoog and the original all metal facia and perspex wheels just add to the experience in knowing this is the genuine article from the early Moog company in 1971 – the year George Harrison reached number 4 in the UK charts with ‘My Sweet Lord.’

The history of this RA Minimoog #1112 that we have:

The original owner of this instrument can be traced back to Edgar Broughton, who purchased this RA Minimoog from a music store called Rotosound in Shaftsbury Avenue, London, England, in the winter of 1972 (we have letter from Edgar supporting this). At the time of sale, it was said that this actual Moog belonged to Keith Emerson, although there is no documentary proof of that fact, so that may have been a sales tactic by the rep at Rotosound, or maybe even true…who knows!

This RA Minimoog was used on many Edgar Broughton Band albums including; Inside Out, Oora, and most extensively on the Super Chip Album, along with some live performance work etc. The Edgar Broughton Band where a English psychedelic rock group founded in 1968 – more in them can be found here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edgar_Broughton_Band

It is one of Edgar Broughton’s Brothers who has approached RL Music to Broker the RA Minimoog, so we have a direct link of ownership from almost when the RA Minimoog was manufactured – this is pretty rare as most vintage Moog change ownership several times over 45 years.

This RA Minimoog has been used as a workhorse during its long and distinguished life, and we would be the fist to say that this example is properly well used machine, as Bob Moog meant them to be. You can see from the pictures that there are plenty of signs of wear and tear to the control surfaces, keys and cabinet, but KSR have undertaken a complete restoration to bring the presentation back to the best it can be whilst retaining its original character.

The Moog was probably converted to run 220V at some time in its life as we think this would have originally been 110V. All the internal RA Moog PCBs are original, and it is here that this synth truly excels. Although the synth itself had regular use, the operational side is in superb condition, and after some close attention by KSR, works 100% beautifully with it scaling/tracking exceptionally well, with very stable tuning. The sound of this RA Minimoog is divine and really what these are all about, thus proving that if you want the best sounding Moogs, then you’ve got to look way back to the early 1970s to get the real deal.

What did KSR do in terms of restoration?

My trusted Vintage Moog restoration expert, Kent Spong of KSR – London, has undertaken a sympathetic approach to the restoration to ensure it has retained the authentic essence of a 45 year old Moog synthesizer. The Minimoog has been completely rebuilt from scratch: The key-bed has been fully overhauled and re-bushed, deep cleaning to pots and switches, plus a full test and calibration ect. There has of course been much more detailed work then simply described here, but most of the technical work carried out has been to ensure the instrument is reliable and safe to use, but nothing has been replaced that effects the vintage Moog sound.

KSR have very carefully hand-finished the original Rose Wood Cabinet to bring back the character, and waxed finished it to enhance the natural ageing and darkening of the wood (its patina). Without doubt this RA Minimoog look beautifully old and special, it plays perfectly, scaling and tracking through all the footages very nicely thanks to the skill of a master restorer.

There is always more restoration work you can invest into these machines, but the more you start replacing things, then more you ‘dial out’ the history and authenticity, so in the case of the first Minimoogs ever made by the great Bob Moog, we feel less is more.

To conclude:

This is not a pristine condition high-end collector/museum grade example, so can’t attain the prices that would demand, but the owner is appreciative of the ‘used’ condition this RA Minimoog is presented to the market in, so the price below reflects this reality. If you want ‘that RA Moog sound’ and don’t mind a bit of real tangible history in your synths, then this surely has to be the perfect opportunity to own your own RA Minimoog.

This extraordinary instrument is being sold with our enhanced 6 month warranty.

Price: £8990 GBP.

Availability: This RA Minimoog is now SOLD as at 18th July 2016.

Oberheim Matrix 12

We are Brokering this Matrix 12 for and on their behalf of a UK client

Came into stock: Arrived at RL Music in October 2015.

Restoration Status: KSR has already fully undertaken a full service of the synth during November.

ETR (estimated time from restoration): Available for sale now!

Remarks: These wonderful vintage synths are so hard to find these days in really fine condition, so when our client contacted us about selling theirs, we couldn’t resist the opportunity to be able to offer this.

The Oberheim Matrix 12 is a fully midi configured 12 voice Polysynth with keyboard velocity – an excellent addition to any analogue set-up and has to be heard to be believed. The M12 offers a deep programmable architecture for those of you into tweaking but can also be a very user friendly hands-on preset machine with quick access for live use. This means they sit between that digital and analogue medium perfectly and are arguably the best of the hybrid technology of the early to mid 1980’s.

Once you’re familiar with the comprehensive programming interface of the Matrix 12 you have one of the most powerful analogue systems ever made. The M12 was the last of the old Oberheim analogue synth technology, was beautifully designed and a powerhouse of thick analogue goodness that was tragically lost from just about every synth made after, when we all decided that the DX7 was the future!

This Matrix 12 operates on EU 220V & US 110V.

Guide Price Post-Restoration: £4500 UK Pounds

Availability: This Matrix 12 is now SOLD as at 2nd December 2015.

KSR very kindly sent us through some pictures of the actual Matrix 12 for sale after the servicing was completed (see below), but these are a little dark to see a lot of detail, so we will get some more high-res pictures done ourselves as soon as we collect the Matrix 12 from KSR – hopeful w/c 30th November.

YAMAHA CS15

The Yamaha CS15 has been hailed by many as one of the best monosynths ever made and we’re delighted to offer you the near-mint condition example for sale.

Like is bigger brothers (the CS30 & CS30L) the CS15 has an excellent and beautifully designed front-panel layout giving the synth an astounding and vast array of features. This complexity delivers a diversity of sound that is deeply satisfying to explore. Cleverly, Yamaha produced this smaller version of their flagship CS30 range so that people could access the power of this classic design without the higher price tag.

This is a professional grade analogue synthesizer and is as relevant today as any contemporary analogue synth and offers more in pure synthesis terms than just about any other synth in this category.

This CS15 has only just been fully serviced and is sold with a 3 month warranty from RL Music. like most ‘CS’ synths we have seen in the UK over the years, this CS15 runs on 110V voltage and works very happily on a small step-down transformer due to its minimal 15W power requirements.

We have purchased a brand new (UK spec/plug) step-down transformer – rated to 45W which is supplied free of charge with this synth.

As you can see from the picture, the synth also comes with its original and very smart blue fur-lined Yamaha flight-case, which a really nice touch.

Like the CS30 we are also selling on our website, the condition of this CS15 is without doubt the best we have ever seen. This would represent a fine investment but is also an everyday useable instrument for anyone looking to own a hard-core and powerful vintage analogue system.

Price = 790 UK Pounds
