Remarks: 

A rare opportunity to buy the instrument that Vangelis made his own and is largely recognised as the finest analogue polysynth ever produced, the Yamaha CS-80.

Background:

This CS80 we are offering for sale comes to us for Brokering from a private owner who had sent the instrument to KSR directly for a full service to ensure it’s fully operational and ready for us to sell for them.  The serial number (#1107) tells us this is an earlier production version, so will date back to around 1978.  

Kent at KSR told us that he had this actual CS-80 in for a full operational refurbishment several years ago, so it’s had all the critical updates done for stability and longevity.  The service that’s just been carried out has mainly focussed on calibrations and a replacement Key-Assigner IC.  We fully tested the CS-80 at the KSR workshop on 11th August and can attest to it being 100% perfectly working – it’s got a lovely tone, with it being an earlier production model.

Most CS-80 have lost their ‘pedals, music stand and legs’ over the years, so we cannot supply these original accessories to the new owner, and like so many, this example for sale does not have most of these either, although it is supplied with a Yamaha branded sustain pedal (pictured).  This CS-80 does not have its original lid either. It will come supplies with an original Yamaha CS-80 service manual, which is actually a folder full of original schematics.  Lastly, the current owner has included an historic bill of sale that’s survived with this instrument dated from 1988, which rather amusingly priced the CS-80 at £325, so a nice piece of provenance at least.

If MIDI is required on the CS-80, then we can normally supply and install the Kenton Midi retrofit Kits for an additional charge, so please ask us for a quote to supply and install this for you. Please note that any modifications like fitting MIDI are only carried out after the synth has been purchased in full.

This CS-80 operates on EU220V but can be converted to US110V if required by Kent at KSR (subject to quotation).

Condition:

The overall cosmetic condition of this CS-80 is good, but it does show signs of wear to the control surfaces and tolex, as we would expect from a 44-year-old instrument, and we hope the pictures we have provided with this listing give you a good feel for how it presents.  Most importantly, it’s working perfectly, so it would serve as a superb studio machine, and because of the world-renowned skills of Kent at KSR with this model, he’s able to ‘dial in’ the tuning of the VCO to work optimally for this specific machine.  This CS-80 has not had any modifications done to it, so it’s a completely original example.

With Kent’s agreement, we took a picture of him with the CS-80.  As many of you will know, Kent Spong is recognised worldwide as one of the top CS-80 specialist technicians, so you could not have a more qualified person to set up this synth and support it.  Just Google ‘Kent Spong and CS-80’, and you will see that his reputation is well deserved where the CS-80 is concerned, and of course, just about any make and model of vintage synth.

Warranty provided on this CS80:

The CS80 is sold with a 3-month warranty as standard, which covers all parts and labour and telephone/Skype technical support from KSR.  The CS-80 currently resides at the KSR workshop, where it is available for demo (upon request).

We can ship this instrument worldwide, although the packing, shipping & insurance costs are not included in the sale price below, so are subject to quotation.  Having shipped many CS-80 all over the world, we would recommend having it custom crated and palletised for shipping, which we can organise through our specialist suppliers. Remarks: These wonderful vintage synths are so hard to find these days in really nice cosmetic condition, so when an customer contacted us about selling their much loved (home use only) example, we jumped at the chance. This particular Matrix 12 is a US manufactured version which has the (factory option) ’12-individual outs’ fitted, and has the keyboard Aftertouch system installed (velocity was standard on all versions).

The Oberheim Matrix 12 offers a deep programmable architecture for those of you into tweaking but can also be a very user friendly hands-on preset machine with quick access for live use. This means they sit between that digital and analogue medium perfectly and are arguably the best of the hybrid technology of the mid 1980’s.

Once you’re familiar with the comprehensive programming interface of the Matrix 12 you have one of the most powerful analogue systems ever made. The M12 was the last of the old Oberheim analogue synth technology, was beautifully designed and a powerhouse of thick analogue goodness that was tragically lost from just about every synth made after, when we all decided that the DX7 was the future!

This Matrix 12 operates on EU 220V & US 110V, and is supplied with a bound photo-copy of the user manual…very handy. As with all our synths, the Oberheim is sold with a 3 month warranty.

Restoration Status: KSR to service once sold, and prior to shipping to the new owner. This LAMM is in perfect working condition, but the servicing work is standard on all our vintage synths for sale, although it is more akin to a ‘health-check’ on a instrument of this fine condition.

The Memorymoog is an outstanding analogue polysynth that is unique and unrivalled in sheer power and character. Moog did something amazing creating this beautiful instrument, and they pushed the technology of the day to its limits, but then Lintronics developed this amazing upgrade to create arguably the most powerful vintage analogue polysynth ever, and a synthesizer that sits perfectly in a 21st Century production environment.

It’s not very often we get the chance to offer a LAMM for sale but we have been given the opportunity to sell this beautiful machine for our client who is downsizing their collection, and this example has been very well cared for…no expense spared.

Having a Memorymoog in stock alone would be treat enough but these Lintronics versions are highly coveted. The cost of implementing the LAMM upgrade is near the actually supply cost of the donor machine these days, plus factoring in the waiting time to have it done by Rudi means getting hold of these very special versions is almost impossible. We’ve seen demand for LAMM Memorymoogs go though the roof in recent years, what with top music professionals buying them up, and this trend is only ever going to go one way, so this should be viewed as a rare opportunity to own your own.

Information on this Memorymoog LAMM:

The LAMM upgrade on this particular model was carried out Rudi at Lintonics in 2010.
The LAMM was pro-restored within the last 2 months, and when we received it from our client a few weeks ago, it was 100% perfect operationally.
The serial number on this Memorymoog (a ‘Plus’ version originally) is #3019
The Memorymoog was originally a 110V system, but the transformer was modified to run EU 220V back in 2000.

The cosmetic condition of the Memorymoog is excellent, and as mentioned above, is in 100% perfect working order.

As with all Brokered Sales, the synth will be fully serviced post-sale before it’s sent to its new owner. We do this to ensure that the instrument leaves us in perfect operational condition, and it is backed up by our full warranty to give the new owner complete peace of mind. The servicing is carried out as a priority once the the sale has been completed, and although it will delay shipping/delivery by a short time, we know from experience that customers are happy to wait.

This LAMM is sold through RL Music with a 3 month warranty, and runs on EU 220V via the normal IEC connector (UK cable/plug type will be supplied).

Remarks: A very good condition example of the vintage EMS DK2 Analogue Keyboard Controller for the Synthi & VCS3. Manufacturing date for this will be around 1973, so at least 43 years old.

This DK2 has just been subjected to a complete service by Robin wood at EMS in October 2016 (service receipt available), and KSR have just completed some light cosmetic restoration to the wood cabinet (wood case stripped, re-stained and wax finished by hand).

This DK2 can be described as ‘good original’ cosmetic condition, although there is some inevitable wear to the screen-print on the control panel. The DK2 is 100% fully operational having just had THE master EMS technician service the unit.

The DK2 has two independent channels of CV, these can set to different modes, and the keyboard has its own built in VCO for modulation options, plus as “Dynamic Channel’ output. You would connect the DK2 to the Synthi or VCS3 via the Cinch-Jones keyboard interconnect cable, and additionally, a second 1/4 inch jack cable for more control options via the ‘input channel 2’ on the synth.

The ‘Dynamic Channel’, brings into play the DK2s 37 note velocity-sensitive keyboard. This means the velocity action sends a separate control voltage. This would commonly be used for aptitude control, providing you set the matrix-patch on your Synthi or VCS3 to operate that way. The ‘Dynamic Channel’ can actually be set to control almost any facility on the Synthi or VCS3…which is what these amazing synths are all about really.

If you need it, We are able to supply the Cinch-Jones keyboard interconnect cable to run the DK2 into either a Synthi or VCS3, price upon request.
