Korg PS-3200 –...

Came into stock: Available from RL Music from January 2025

Servicing Status:

KSR had undertaken an extensive cosmetic and operational restoration, with the project spanning several years but mostly completed by the end of 2024, thanks to the fine efforts of Kent Spong.

Remarks:

We have decided to sell our complete system Korg PS-3200.  This instrument forms a part of the RL Music Vintage Synthesizer Collection.  We have managed to keep some of the very best examples of Vintage Synthesizers that come through our business over the last 22 years which we kept for our pleasure and interest. Whilst having a privileged position as a specialist dealer in this genre of equipment, we managed to hang on to particular instruments that were interesting and inspiring to us.  This Korg PS-3200 is among 40 instruments we own, and it has been the subject of a full and very detailed cosmetic and operational restoration by our trusted vintage synth tech, Kent Spong of KSR.

It’s generally accepted that Korg only produced around 200 of the PS-3200, a number that is difficult to verify with any accuracy, but regardless of it being 100 or 500 units made, such limited quantities make this model a very rare hand-made instrument by any definition.

Due to the nature of limited production run instruments like this Korg PS-3200, certain aspects to the sale will be unique, so we have tried our best here to fully represent the instrument with all the information we have available and honestly and acutely describe it. We encourage any prospective buyer to ensure you have all you need to make an informed decision to purchase it, so we are available to field any enquiry you may have, but we hope the following information covers all the pertinent details on this very special instrument.

Provenance:

We purchased this PS-3200 from a UK seller (an expert user) in 2015, and we collected it in person from their studio in the South of England. At the time of the sale, the Korg was fully working but had not been professionally serviced so we decided to add it to our Korg ‘PS’ collection as this completed the full lineup and then decide later on what we wanted to do with it. We do not have any prior history about this PS-3200, but like most examples of this model we have seen over the years, they are generally well looked after, robust and reliable hand-made instruments by Korg.

The overall condition of the PS-3200 was all original and very good but it was showing signs of wear to all the cosmetic surfaces and the faux wooden cabinet, wear that was indicative of a 35+-year-old (at the time) synthesizer, so after some consideration, we decided to go for a full operational and cosmetic restoration.  This kind of very high-level restoration was something we used to do quite a lot in the past but demand for highly restored vintage synths has declined in recent times due to the accelerating prices for vintage gear in any condition, so we found that prices have dominated people’s decisions rather than the added value (and cost) that comes with restoration work. However, as we owned this PS-3200 for our private collection then the huge restoration effort and costs were a personal choice, and it most certainly added value to this particular example.

System Configuration:

PS-3200 – Main frame

PS-3010 – Keyboard Controller

PS-3030 – Remote

PS-3001 – Cable

Kenton MIDI Retrofit Kit Fitted

This particular PS-3200 comes with the extremely rare PS-3030 Remote, which was a unique solution for live-playing musicians to have access to the PS-3200 patch memories. It’s rather a quirky device through modern eyes but in the context of a synth player in 1978, this was a remarkable high-tech, ground-breaking facility for a polyphonic synthesiser for its time.

We purchased a brand new MIDI retrofit kit from Kenton Electronics UK for this PS-3200, so KSR installed this into the Korg at the time the operational restoration work was being carried out.

Historical Context:

The Korg PS-3200 is a historically significant synthesizer that emerged during a transformative period in electronic music. Here’s a detailed historical context for its development and impact:

  1. The Synthesizer Revolution of the 1970s

The 1970s were a golden age for synthesizer innovation. As electronic music gained popularity, musicians and producers sought more expressive and versatile instruments. Early synthesizers, like the Moog Modular systems and ARP 2600, were groundbreaking but often monophonic (capable of playing only one note at a time). The demand for polyphonic synthesizers—capable of playing multiple notes simultaneously—grew, leading to the development of instruments like the Korg PS-3200.

2. Korg’s Entry into the Synthesizer Market

Korg, founded in 1962 by Tsutomu Katoh and Tadashi Osanai, initially focused on producing rhythm machines and electronic keyboards. By the mid-1970s, Korg had established itself as a serious competitor in the synthesizer market with instruments like the Korg MiniKorg 700 and the Korg MaxiKorg. The PS-3200, released in 1978, was part of Korg’s PS (Polyphonic Synthesizer) series, which also included the PS-3100 and PS-3300. These instruments were designed to meet the growing demand for polyphonic capabilities in a professional studio and live performance context.

3. Technological Advancements in the PS-3200

The PS-3200 was a technological marvel for its time. Key features included:

48-note polyphony: Unprecedented for an analogue synthesizer, allowing for rich, layered sounds.

Programmable presets: Unlike many analogue synthesizers of the era, the PS-3200 allowed users to save and recall sounds, a feature that was highly innovative.

Unison detuning: This feature allowed for thick, chorused sounds that became a hallmark of the PS-3200’s sonic character.

These advancements made the PS-3200 one of the most advanced synthesizers of its time, competing with other high-end polyphonic synthesizers like the Yamaha GX-1 and the Oberheim Polyphonic Synthesizer.

4. Limited Production and Exclusivity

The PS-3200 was a hand-built instrument, requiring significant labor and expertise to assemble. This, combined with its high cost limited its production would have had a niche appeal to buyers in the late 1970’s. As a result, it was primarily used by professional musicians, studios, and wealthy enthusiasts. Its exclusivity and advanced features contributed to its legendary status.

5. Influence on Music and Culture

The PS-3200 was used by prominent artists and producers in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Its lush, analogue sound made it ideal for creating pads, strings, and atmospheric textures. While it was not as widely adopted as some other synthesizers of the era (like the Minimoog or Prophet-5), it had a significant impact on the development of electronic music and synthesizer design.

6. Legacy and Historical Significance

The Korg PS-3200 represents a pivotal moment in the history of synthesizers. It showcased the potential of polyphonic analogue synthesis and programmable presets, paving the way for future innovations in electronic music technology. Today, the PS-3200 is a highly sought-after collector’s item, valued for its rarity, historical importance, and unique sound.

Conclusion

The Korg PS-3200 is a symbol of the creativity and ambition of the late 1970s synthesizer industry. Its advanced features and limited production have cemented its place as a classic in the history of electronic music, influencing both the technology and the artistry of sound synthesis.

About Restoration & Servicing:

This Korg PS-3200 has been subjected to what we used to term as ‘Total Restoration,’ so a complete operational and cosmetic overhaul plus brand new cabinets were produced by Ross Lamond in solid Walnut for the mainframe, PS-3010 Keyboard Controller and the end-cheeks for the PS-3030 Remote device. The original faux chipboard and synthetic veneer cabinets were donated to Ross Lamond at the time of manufacture so he could correctly replicate the cabinets, these are no longer available, but the beautiful solid Walnut cabinets are stunning.

Our good friend and highly regarded vintage synth tech – Kent Spong at KSR,  was commissioned to undertake the restoration work, but there were several specialist suppliers involved in the restoration, so here are the highlights of what has been done to this PS-3200.

  • Complete disassembly of all control surfaces, so all potentiometers and jack socks are removed from all panels by KSR.
  • mainframe control surface, PS-3010 Keyboard and PS-3030 Remote panels sent to a professional powder coating business in the UK.
  • Post-powder-coating, the panels were hand-delivered to our printing specialist in the UK to have all the screen printing carried out. All the artwork for this was custom produced and paid for by us and our printer carried out all the work.
  • Walnut Wood Cabinets collected by hand from Lamond Design (no longer trading) and delivered to KSR for preparation – staining and waxing etc.
  • A MIDI Retrofit Kit was purchased from Kenton Electronics.
  • Brand new 1/4 inch Switchcraft jack sockets for both the mainframe and PS-3010 Controller
  • Brand new power socket on the mainframe control panel.
  • Once all the various parts were ready from our restoration partners (above) then everything was delivered to KSR for assembly:

– Re-capped the entire PS-3200 with new capacitors, inc PSU

– Replace all 1/4 inch jack sockets with new Switchcraft sockets

– Cleaned all PCB edge-connections

– Reassembly of all control surface components

– Install Kenton MIDI Kit-Finalising – system-wide testing and calibrations

-The card-edge connectors on this PS-3200 were all in excellent condition so the decision was taken not to replace these during the restoration.

KSR do not produce restoration reports but the above works carried out are extensive and the final product is more akin to a brand new instrument. We don’t know how much labour was involved in this restoration project as a whole but with all the parties involved, it’s likely hundreds of hours and (we know) thousands of £-pounds.

For many discerning buyers, the investment we have made into this PS-3200 is highly valued, and at the time of producing this document, we are not aware of any comparable PS-3200 being offered for sale in the world.

This Korg PS-3200 came from the factory with a manually switchable power supply, so this can operate on JPN 100v, US 110V or EU 220V.  In the UK, we have this set to 220V.

We do not have any original user or service manuals but will provide a PDF copy of the user manual.

Packing & Shipping:

We can ship this PS-3200 worldwide, although the packing, shipping & insurance costs are not included in the sale price below, so are subject to quotation.  We intend to have the Korg professionally packaged by us to ensure maximum safety during transport.  This would require custom-sized export-grade boxes and associated packing materials, which would be ordered from our packaging partner, specifically tailored to the unique physical dimensions of the components that make up this system, so the consignment would be for 2 boxes minimum. We don’t think it would need to be palletised, but it will be fully insured for the sale price below, and a customer insurance policy will be required for the consignment (subject to quotation).

Unless specified by the buyer, we would not remove all the PCBs and ship these separately, but this can be accommodated if required but this will add additional packaging materials and labour costs, plus that option will impact the post-sale warranty terms.

The packaging solution will be tailored to the buyers’ needs, so please speak to us about your preferences at the time of ordering and we will provide a solution and quotation that meets your requirements.

Alternatively, UK buyers can collect the PS-3200 from us in Reading, Berkshire, or we might be able to arrange a dedicated delivery in person, subject to the destination address & quotation. We are happy to discuss your requirements so please email us if you have any questions on the logistics and/or need a quote.

Sales Price:

£25,000 GBP

As this Korg PS-3200 is owned by RL Music, VAT is applicable on the sale of this to UK buyers. Packing & shipping are also subject to VAT @ 20% should you need the goods shipped to you.

Due to the values involved, we can only accept payment by bank transfer, details of which will be supplied in our invoice.  International Bank Wire Transfer is therefore accepted.

Korg Trident Mk1 w/M...

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK customer

Came into stock: December 2024.

Servicing Status: A full service was carried out by Kent Spong at KSR in December 2024.

Remarks:

This Korg Trident Mk1 has been in our client’s ownership for many years and they had a MIDI retrofit kit added, so this example does have MIDI. The Trident had been unused and stored for a while so KSR were commissioned to fully service it, which was only completed within the last couple of weeks so it’s fresh out of the workshop and ready for a new owner to enjoy it.

The cosmetic condition is excellent, and although not quite as pristine as the other Mk1 Trident we are offering for sale right now, it’s certainly another rare opportunity to find such a nice-looking example, and with MIDI.

Why Buy a Vintage Korg Trident MK1?

The Korg Trident Mk1 is celebrated for several reasons that make it a beloved instrument among synthesizer enthusiasts and musicians:

1. Triple Synthesis Sections

The Trident Mk1 combines three distinct sections:

  • Synthesizer Section: Offers a classic analogue subtractive synthesis engine with rich, warm tones.
  • Brass Section: Features ensemble-style brass sounds with a lush character.
  • Strings Section: Known for its silky, lush string ensemble tones, enhanced by onboard modulation options.

This versatility allows for complex layering and sound design possibilities that were groundbreaking at its release.

2. Polyphony and Layering

The Trident Mk1 provides an 8-voice polyphony in its synth section and 16-voice polyphony in its string section. The ability to split and layer sounds across the keyboard is a major draw, enabling deep, evolving textures.

3. Analog Warmth

The instrument’s fully analogue signal path delivers a warm, organic sound characteristic of vintage synthesizers. This analogue warmth is particularly cherished in modern music production, where such a character is often emulated digitally.

4. Onboard Ensemble Effects

The built-in ensemble effect is a standout feature, adding depth and lushness to the sound, especially in the strings and brass sections. This effect is integral to the Trident’s iconic sound.

5. Intuitive Interface

The Trident Mk1 has a straightforward, hands-on interface with dedicated sliders and controls for each section. This makes it easy to shape and blend sounds in real-time, a significant advantage for live performance and spontaneous creativity.

6. Build Quality and Aesthetics

The Korg Trident Mk1 has a robust build with a vintage aesthetic that appeals to collectors and musicians alike. Its wooden end panels and tactile controls exude a sense of quality and craftsmanship.

7. Historical Significance

Released in 1980, the Trident Mk1 represents a pivotal moment in synthesizer history, bridging the gap between fully analogue machines and more complex hybrid systems. Its sound palette was a staple in many genres, including progressive rock, new wave, and early electronic music.

8. Cult Following

Its relative rarity and unique features have given it a cult following. Musicians and producers who own one often praise its distinctive sound and character.

In short, the Trident Mk1 is a versatile, beautifully designed instrument that combines the best elements of early 1980s analogue synthesis, making it both a nostalgic and practical choice for sound enthusiasts.

Packing & Shipping:

We can ship this Trident worldwide, although the packing, shipping & insurance costs are not included in the sale price below, so are subject to quotation.  There may be some short delays in getting the packaging materials produced for shipping as they are custom-ordered for the specific dimensions of each instrument.  We are happy to discuss your requirements so please email us if you have any questions on the logistics and/or need a quote.

Korg Trident Mk1

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK customer

Came into stock: December 2024.

Servicing Status:

A service will be carried out by Kent Spong at KSR upon completion of the sale.

Remarks:

The original Mk1 Korg Trident is a wonderful vintage instrument packed with a load of character, and being SSM technology based, the Synth, Brass and String Machine and packed full of modulation, voicing and timbre controls as well as onboard effects in the form of an absolute killer Flanger and beautiful Ensemble.  Simply…It’s gorgeous!

Being a Korg, the build quality of this early 1980s produced synth was very high, a testament to the fact that it’s still working perfectly with all the original controls working perfectly and all present.

This Trident Mk1 has been in our client’s ownership since brand new, so a single owner machine, and in their own words ‘only ever very lightly used at home,’ which is clearly evident from the pristine condition. .  The operational condition is perfect, so the synth only needs a light service to re-cap the power-supply and put a new battery in, which we will carry out post-sale for the new owner.

The cosmetic condition is the headline here as it’s genuinely in as-new condition, quite remarkable and without any doubt, the finest example vintage synth we have ever had the pleasure of selling.

The last thing to note is that the owner had kept the original retail packaging for this beautiful condition instrument, so it’s will be supplied with this to the new owner. If we do end up shipping this to whomever buys it then we would purchase an outer-box to offer some additional protection to the synth and to preserve the OE packaging as that does add to its collectability.

This collectors piece is sold through RL Music with a 3-month warranty. This is a 220~240V machine that is powered via its internally wired power-cable to a uK 3-pin plug. Included in the sale is the original owners manual, which is also in excellent condition and a Korg foot-switch

Packing & Shipping:

As mentioned above, the Trident requires a service to principally cover any future proofing needs, and a new battery, so this work will add a couple of weeks to the timeline in terms of completing the sale. We will require the sale to have been completed before this will be undertaken.

We can ship this Trident worldwide, although the packing, shipping & insurance costs are not included in the sale price below, so are subject to quotation.  There may be some short delays in getting the packaging materials produced for shipping as they are custom ordered for the specific dimensions of each instrument.  We are happy to discuss your requirements so please email us if you have any questions on the logistics and/or need a quote.

Korg PS3300 with MID...

Servicing Status:

Full service by KSR has already been carried out in August 2021, so this Korg PS3300 Polyphonic Modular System is ready for sale now.

Remarks:

What can we say other than…wow!  How rare are these to find, and then to actually find one that’s been fully serviced and available for sale!

We’re very proud to be able to offer this magnificent instrument to any discerning buyer and it’s just had a full service from our trusted & expert vintage synth restorer & partner, Kent Spong at KSR.

Background Info:

We purchased this PS3300 with the intention of keeping it for our own collection, but other priorities have meant that we are now letting it go.  We purchased it from a very experienced vintage analogue synth collector in Japan and had it imported over to us in the UK in April 2021.

The person we purchased this from in Japan had owned it since 2012, but he did not have any prior history on the PS3300, but it’s safe to assume it had never left Japan since it was manufactured.  The serial number is 780105, so this might suggest a 1978 manufacture date, but we cannot be certain.  The was likely produced for the local Japan market, hence it only operates on 100~117V @75W.  We’ve included a picture of the serial plate below.

Cosmetic & Operational Appraisal:

As you can see from the pictures we have taken, the overall condition is very good, the cabinet particularly so, stunning!  The anodised metal control surfaces are showing some wear/deterioration in places due to age, which is typical with many Korg synths coming out of Japan of this era.  It would be perfectly feasible to have all the control surfaces restored to look as-new, but we think it’s more important to persevere these extremely rare historic instruments in their original condition, but that’s an option we’re happy to discuss with any potential buyer as we can get this kind of specialist work carried out in the UK, subject to quotation.

Also included in the sale is the Korg PS-3001 (Honda) Cable to operate the PS3010 Keyboard Controller.  The original power cable is also included of course, plus a step-down supply.

A Kenton MIDI has already been fitted into the PS3300, and like a few we have seen, the kit has been implemented through the pedal DIN inputs on the front panel.  You will note from the pictures that there are some stickers that show the input to access the MIDI kit function.  We think this is a very sympathetic way to implement MIDI into these rare & valuable systems as it can easily be reversed/removed if 100% originality is preferred, so no legacy of the kit having been installed would be left.  The downside is you can’t access the pedal inputs if you happen to own a Korg PS-3040 Dual Pedal, but as mentioned, the MIDI can be removed without affecting the authenticity of the PS3300 in any way.

This Korg PS3300 operates on US 110V. but can be operated in the UK/EU on 220V via the external step-down power supply which is included in the sale (pictured below) and we can supply a high-quality colour PDF copy of the user manual. The instrument is sold with a 3-month warranty, please see our website for full terms & conditions.

The service carried out by KSR in August 2021 covered all the normal stability and calibration checks, full function testing and card-edge connector inspections etc.  There was actually very little to do on the PS3300 as it was last professionally overhauled by FiveG, in Harajuku, Japan,  in November 2020.  Here is a summary of the work that carried in in the service they conducted:

Exchanged one card socket

Cleaned all card sockets

All switches cleaned

New signal generator FEET x29

Three new condensers for power supply

162 FEETs replaced across the synth

Constructed 2SK208-carrying adapter cards to replace 2SK30A’s

Replaced 36 tantalum condensers in envelope generators

Replaced 36 generator trimmers

Unit 2 waveform control checked and diode found faulty -> replaced

Unit 3 photo-coupler HTVP873DX3 replaced with NSL33-007

23 card connectors reinforced for long-term durability and integrity

Total, 60+ hours work.

Ordering From the EU (Post 1st Jan 2021):

Now the UK is no longer a part of the European Union, we all have new levels of bureaucracy to deal with when you buy equipment from any business in the UK, for onward delivery to any destination in the EU.  In order for us to be able to ship to the EU now, we will require you to supply an EORI number if you are buying from us as a business, which will be provided in the Commercial Invoice that goes with the consignment.  Private individuals purchasing equipment from us will not require an EORI number but the goods will still be subject to VAT, which is charged by your own countries Customs, to clear the goods, so we now do not charge VAT on our purchasing invoice. The VAT rate applied upon import into your country will be set by your own country applicable VAT rates.

Packing & Shipping:

We can ship this instrument worldwide, although the packing, shipping & insurance costs are not included in the sale price below, so are subject to quotation.  There may be some short delays in getting the custom-sized materials produced for shipping, although courier companies all seem to be operating normally.  We are happy to discuss your requirements so please email us if you have any questions on the logistics and/or need a quote.

Sales Price: £65,000 GBP.

Korg MS20

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK Client.

Came into stock: Available from RL Music from February 2020.

Servicing Status: A health-check has been carried out by KSR but we will have it fully serviced as a priority once the sale has been completed.

Remarks: We are brokering this good condition example for a UK client who has owned it for 20+ years.

With all the variety of Korg MS20 now available, it’s easy to get confused about which is the one to have, but the fact remains that the original 1970s MS20 is still the ‘real deal’ and a much-coveted full-sized semi-modular system with true vintage authenticity.  The pleasure of owning an original/vintage analogue synthesizer can’t be understated just because Korg reissued it (and the other copies out there).  All the MS20 variants have certainly fired up everyone’s imagination though, which has to be a good thing for analogue fans.

Second-hand prices for the genuine 1970s built Korg MS20 have seen a reduction in the last few years, but we are starting to see a strong recovery for the vintage originals, so now is the time to consider buying one for keeps.

This example is an Mk2 variant, so the filter was re-designed around the LM13600 operational transconductance amplifier (OTA) – sounds great too! There have been no modifications to this synth, and as you can see from the pictures, it’s in good all original condition showing only the normal amount of wear you would expect for a for 40-year-old synth

This was imported from its homeland in Japan, so operates on 100~110V.  We can provide a step-down transformer if needed (subject to your requirements & quotation).

Brokered through RL Music, it is being sold with a full 3-month warranty and can be shipped worldwide.

<em>As with all Brokered Sales, the Korg MS20 will be fully serviced post-sale before it’s sent to its new owner. We do this to ensure that the instrument leaves us in perfect operational condition, and it is backed up by our full warranty to give the new owner complete peace of mind. The servicing is carried out as a priority once the sale has been completed, and although it will delay shipping/delivery by a short time, we know from experience that customers are happy to wait.</em>

Demos are available by appointment only.

This price has been agreed with our client to keep it keen, affordable, so we know this represents excellent value compared to any other dealer supplied MS20 being offered around the world right now.

Price: £1,050 GBP.

Availability: This Korg MS20 is no longer available for sale – updated as of 19th March 2020.

Korg VC-10

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK client.

Came into stock: Available from RL Music as at 13th June 2018.

Servicing Status: A full service by KSR has already been carried out (June 2018), so the VC-10 is available for sale now.

Remarks: A good condition example of the wonderful vintage Korg VC-10 Vocoder. This unique and super little 20-band vocoder was made between 1978 and 1982 and followed the ‘MS Series’ design ethos.

This is very simple but characteristic machine, and the built-in keyboard makes it easy to use as an effects processor as well as a more traditional human voice synthesizer.

The Original gooseneck mic is, unfortunately, missing (common) but the original Korg mics that came with the unit were not of audiophile quality anyway, so you can use an unbalanced 1/4 jack input on the front panel. RL Music is able to fit a new XLR socket to replace the original proprietary 3 pin Korg mic socket, so please contact us for a quote to have this implemented if needed.

Here’s nice demo from Junkie XL who talks about this own VC010 – he’s clearly a big fan of this super little vocoder:
https://youtu.be/Q5tUgh1Uvj8

This VC-10 was owned by our clients family since 1994 and it had been in constant use and maintained regularly during their ownership at their home studio, up until quite recently.

Cosmetically, this 37+ year-old vintage analogue vocoder is in good original condition and shows the normal amount of wear for an instrument of this age, and has been priced to reflect this. As mentioned above, KSR has only just fully serviced the VC-10, so it’s 100% perfect operationally.

This Korg VC-10 operates on EU 220V. We do have a user manual (in PDF format). As the instrument is being Brokered through RL Music, it will be sold with a full 3-month warranty and we can ship worldwide.

Demos are available by appointment only.

Price: £840 GBP.

Availability: This Korg VC-10 is now SOLD, as at 13th August 2019.

Korg PS3200

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK customer

Came into stock:  3rd March 2017.

Restoration Status: KSR to service once sold, and prior to shipping to the new owner. This PS3200 is in perfect working condition, but the servicing work is standard on all our vintage synths for sale, although it is more akin to a ‘health-check’ on an instrument of this fine condition.

Remarks: We are delighted to present a very rare opportunity to own a true vintage classic – the Korg PS3200. Our client has not owned the Korg for more than a few years, but it has been well cared for in their own home studio during their ownership. Prior to this, the Korg was owned by UK synth collector. The cosmetic condition of the control panels & original wood-veneer cabinets for both the synth & the PS-3010 48-key Polyphonic Keyboard Controller are very good, with only minimal wear for an instrument of this age, and operationally it’s perfectly working. The PS3200 has clearly been very well looked after throughout its 40-year life, and likely regularly serviced as well, although we will carry out a further service on the synth for the new owner.

A couple of items of note:
There is a non-original knob on the PS-3010 Keyboard. The original Korg potentiometer is intact, so we can only assume at some time in the past, the large Korg control knob has been lost and replaced with the one you can see in the pictures below. Also, the battery cover at the rear of the synth is missing. Not huge problems in the scheme of things, but we’re just noting these for full disclosure.

The PS3200 is a fully polyphonic, 16 memory semi-modular system incorporating divide-down technology driving 2 VCO’s and micro tuning ability. The technical specification aside, this instrument defines the word “ambient” and has the most wonderful warm, rich and characterful sound that any vintage polysynth can deliver….a truly unique machine.

The semi-modular nature of the PS3200 provides some fascinating routing options for “polyphonic” sound design, and the remote keyboard offers a number of performance features within the CV/Gate domain.

This PS3200 operates on US 110V, but comes with an EU 220V converter – it will be sold with a 3-month warranty. Included with the sale is the original PS-3001 60-pin locking connection cable, and of course the proprietary power-cable. We will also include a PDF copy of the user manual.

Sales Price: £10900 GBP.

Availability: This PS3200 is no longer available for sale (updated 6th March 2019).

Korg Trident Mk1

Came into stock: Available from RL Music from 23rd May 2018.

Restoration/Servicing Status: KSR has already fully serviced this Trident Mk1, so it’s ready for sale now!

For those of you who are unsure of what this machine is let us tell you that it is one of the very last best kept vintage analogue secrets left in the world. This is an SSM technology based – Synth, Brass and String Machine and packed full of modulation, voicing and timbre controls as well as onboard effects in the form of an absolute killer Flanger and beautiful Ensemble. Simply…It’s gorgeous!

Being a Korg, the build quality of this 1980 produced synth was very high, a testament to the fact that it’s still working perfectly, all the original controls are intact and it’s built like a tank.

This Trident was purchased from a UK owner who had owned it for 25+ years and kept at home. The operational condition is remarkably good, and the synth has just been serviced by KSR. The cosmetic condition is also good for its age, with the main control surfaces only showing what we would expect to be reasonable wear for a nearly 40-year-old instrument.

The wood cabinet does show has some inevitable wear & tear, but we have not applied any restorative work to it to keep the sales costs down. The price below reflects the condition, and the Trident Mk1 represents the best value example in the world…by far!

The Trident is sold with our standard 3-month warranty and runs on EU220V voltage. We will also include a copy of the owners manual (PDF).

Price: £2290 GBP.

Availability: This Korg Trident Mk1 is SOLD as at 30th May 2018.

Korg MS10

Came into stock: 6th October 2016.

Remarks: We purchased this ‘as-new’ condition Korg MS10 from a UK customer. The cosmetic condition is collector grade – immaculate, and is 100% fully operational.

The plan we had with this museum quality MS10 was to potentially start building a full collection of MS series instruments for the ‘RL Music Collection,’ but we’ve been diverted from that mission for the time being, so the little MS10 is being opened up for sale.

This particular example is an EU220V model, and is fitted with a UK plug. The Korg will also be supplied with all the (new) coloured patch-cables as pictured. Also, the last owner had purchased some Walnut end-cheeks from Lamond Design, so we are including these with the synth.

This Korg MS10 sold with a full 3 month warranty.

Price: £590 GBP

Availability: This Korg MS10 is now SOLD as at 26th October 2016.

Korg MS20 (vintage)

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK customer

Came into stock: 12th Aug 2016

Restoration Status: KSR to fully service once sold, and prior to shipping to the new owner.

Remarks: With all the variety of Korg MS20 now available it’s easy to get confused about which is the one to have, but the fact remains that the original 1970s MS20 is still the ‘real deal’ and a much coveted full sized semi-modular system with true vintage authenticity. The pleasure of owning an original/vintage analogue synthesizer can’t be understated just because Korg reissued it, but all the new MS20 variants have certainly fired up everyone’s imagination, which has to be a good thing for analogue fans.

Second hand prices for the ‘vintage Korg MS20’ had seen a reduction in the last couple of years, but we are starting to see a strong recovery for the vintage originals, so now is the time to consider buying one, especially a really nice one!

This example we are Brokering is a stunning condition example, which was imported from its homeland in Japan, so operates on 100~110V, and importantly, has the original Korg 35 filter IC. There have been no modifications to this synth, and as you can see from the pictures, it’s in museum/collector grade condition.

As with all Brokered Sales, the Korg MS20 will be fully serviced post-sale before it’s sent to its new owner. We do this to ensure that the instrument leaves us in perfect operational condition, and it is backed up by our full warranty to give the new owner complete peace of mind. The servicing is carried out as a priority once the the sale has been completed, and although it will delay shipping/delivery by a short time, we know from experience that customers are happy to wait.

Price: £1150 GBP

Korg 800DV

We are Brokering this Korg 800DV for and on behalf of our UK customer.

Came into stock: 15th April 2016.

Servicing Status: Full service by KSR will commence post-sale.

Remarks: We just love the 800DV (or Maxi-Korg 800DV), as it’s just one of those great sounding but quirky synths from a really creative time in the mid-1970s when some amazing designs were coming out from Japan.

The 800DV offers duophonic operation (hence the DV – Dual Voice), and the sound engine from the 700/700S synths from Korg. Some say it’s two MiniKorgs in a box, but it’s a lot more than that, and the sonic pallet is very thick and powerful with some very musical effects like the ring modulator and various routing options. The front-panel operation is a little non conventional and takes some time to master, but the uniqueness of this one-of-a-kind synth make is very desirable.

Our friend, Dave Spears at GForce Software, produced a really superb demo video on the 800DV as he’s clearly a great fan of the synth (as we are also, and we own one too), so please click the link to see this: https://youtu.be/OUU2UVvglck

A useful CV/Gate modification (Hz/V) has previously been implemented to both the lower and upper synths on this example that we are Brokering. This is something that really adds some value to the 800DV for MIDI access via a converter, or use by other Hz/V Korg synths like the MS20 or PS3100 etc.

The overall cosmetic condition of this 41 year old vintage Korg is very good (see pictures), although it does show reasonable signs of age and wear to the control surface & cabinet, as to be expected.

This 800DV runs on US 110V, but the Korg will be supplied with an EU 220V step-down transformer free of charge by the owner. In addition, there is a ‘used’ aluminum flight-case included in the sale, although we will not ship the synth in this, so for any buyer able to collect it, then it will be included free of charge.

Sold with a full RL Music 3 month warranty.

As with all Brokered Sales, the synth will be fully serviced post-sale, before it’s sent to its new owner.

Price: £1750 GBP.

Korg Sigma

Came into stock: Arrived at RL Music in October 2015.

Servicing status: Servicing was carried out by KSR late October 2015.

Estimated time from servicing: Available for sale now.

Remarks: We have just managed to pick up this really nice original condition Korg Sigma which is now ready for sale.

The Sigma is an unusual instrument that approaches the whole ‘being a synth’ from quite a different perspective, and these quirky instruments are what makes vintage synths so interesting. It’s bi-timbric for starters, meaning it can play its presents and the separate synth section simultaneously. It also has aftertouch and joystick controls for some really useful expressive input

The VCO/VCF combination are very powerful and pure in tone, so the Sigma has a nice raspy edge to it reminiscent of the MS20 in some ways. You can certainly drive some nasty Bass & synthy effects (ring-mod etc) out of it, along with more traditional synth-lead sounds. Hard to put a finger on the sound character to be honest but it’s different, and in todays music that’s just what musicians are looking for.

Why Korg produced something so unusual is a bit of a mystery, but the world is a better place for it.

Runs on EU 220V. The Sigma will be sold with a 3 month warranty & supplied with a user-manual (on PDF).

Guide Price Post-Servicing: £650 GBP

Availability: This Korg Sigma is now SOLD as at 25th August 2016.

Korg MiniKorg-700S

What a utterly fantastic little gem of a synth this is and loved by many synth heads (like us). The MiniKorg 700S is by any standards an archaic synth, but it’s really rather special indeed and has been used by all the great synth bands, including the Human League (“listen to the voice of Buddha” etc.).

Plenty of stuff on the net about these wonderful old-school analogue synths, and we rate them very highly, with 10/10 for character and quirkiness and the same for the flexibility & quality of the wonderful analogue sound it produces.

This particular example is in almost as-new condition..stunning! We have had brand new Walnut end-cheecks made for it by Lamond Design, and the whole synth has been fully pro-restroed by KSR, so this is arguably the best condition example available for sale in the world right now.

Operates on EU 220V and sold with a 3 month warranty.

Guide Price: £1290 GBP

Availability: This Korg MiniKorg-700S is now SOLD as at 23rd April 2014.

A 4 VCO polysynth with oscillator sync, SSM Chipset Low Pass Filter, built in arpeggiator & assignable sequencer, chord memory and a lot of modulation and external control options – what’s not to love! A sweet sounding vintage synth that packs a punch which we highly recommend to you.

Korg MS20

This is for an original Korg MS20 (vintage) from the late 1970s.

With all the interest with the new Korg MS20 Mini it’d easy to get caught up in all the excitement, but the fact remains that the original MS20 is still the ‘real deal’ and a much coveted full sized semi-modular system with true vintage authenticity. The pleasure of owning an original/vintage analogue synthesizer can’t be understated just because a new boy is on the block from Korg, and this new mini-synth has certainly fired up everyone’s imagination, which has to be a good thing for analogue fans.

The other good news is that second hand prices for the ‘vintage Korg MS20’ have seen a reduction in the last year or so, so we were also able to source this really super condition example for a reasonable price.

So now is a good time to get hold of an original MS20, and we have this really beautiful condition example for sale.

The excellent cosmetic condition suggests only ever light home use during it’s life over the last 30+ years. KSR have just fully restored the synth, which is quite a big job on these models and requires the whole synth to be disassembled and rebuilt. There’s a lot done: every potentiometer, knob and jack-socket is deep cleaned, the PSU is re-capped, key-bed overhauled and a system-wide calibration carried out etc.

This particular machine runs 110V, but the synth will be supplied with a brand new step-down transformer if sold within the EU. Also, the MS20 sold with a full 3 month warranty.

Price: £1190 GBP.

Availability: This Korg MS20 is now SOLD as at 10th September 2013
