Rhodes Chroma CC+

Restoration Status: This Rhodes Chroma CC+ is nearing completion from restoration at KSR, and should be completed in September 2014.

It could be said that the Rhodes Chroma is an instrument that sits very much ‘on the fence’ of Analogue and Digital tech. The designers of this system in many ways had moments of genius, whilst at other times suffered with complete madness, but somehow the magic came right to offer a truly superb sounding vintage synth.

The key to restoring one of these fabulous instruments is finding a good quality example in the first place, and that’s a real challenge these days. This superb example was brought in from our music-pro customer in France – we are subjecting it to an extensive restorative overhaul, both cosmetically and operationally. KSR, our synth restorers, also fitted a brand new 5 volt PSU to the system thus providing rock solid stability for the CPU and other critical functions of the Chroma system etc.

We have also purchased and (KSR) fitted the amazing CC+ CPU upgrade thus bringing these vintage systems right up to date. This upgrade is not cheap but offers a very high quality upgrade path securing the synths place in a modern studio environment, plus the obvious future resale value being increased significantly.

Please click here to find out all about the CC+ CPU Upgrade

The Chroma is a very well loved and supported vintage model within the synth community. Chris Ryan has an excellent website dedicated to the model which has been a, excellent source of knowledge and support generally: rhodeschroma.com

This Rhodes Chroma is sold with a 3 month warranty and has been converted to operate on EU 220V.

Price: £5690 UK Pounds

Availability: This Rhodes Chroma CC+ is SOLD as at 12th September 2014.

Moog Voyager XL

Came into stock:  2nd April 2014

Servicing Status: Full service by KSR will commence post-sale

When Moog Music produced the Voyager XL they set out to offer the finest contemporary analogue hybrid synth in the world. They achieved something quite beautiful and it’s hard not to want to own by just looking at it..wow!

The Voyager is a great sounding synth and distinctly ‘modern Moog’ in sonic character, and a worthy evolution of the original vintage Minimoog in many ways, offering truly fantastic value for the money.

This monster synth is brimming FULL of enough features and functionality to satisfy any synth fan, and thoughtfully adorned with excellent performance control options to make this a fantastic centre-stage studio CV/Gate/MIDI controller.

This Voyager XL was purchased second-hand last year by it’s current owner and has sat unused in his studio, so he decided to let it go to someone who will make good use of it – as it deserves. The Moog is in excellent condition throughout, as you would expect from an synth only 2 years old.

Running OS version 3.6. It does not come with its original box or user manual, although the manual can be downloaded direct from Moog here:

This can operate over 110V and 220V – it will be sold with a 3 month warranty.

As with all Brokered Sales, the synth will be fully serviced post-sale before it’s sent to its new owner. We do this to ensure that the instrument leaves us in perfect operational condition, and it is backed up by our full warranty to give the new owner complete peace of mind. Remarks: A nice condition of the mid version (Mk2) Elka Synthex – with the factory MIDI option delivered through break-out-MIDI cables (supplied)

This has to be the one of the finest analogue polysynths ever made and was used by all the top artists of the 80’s, especially JMJ.  Built in 4 track sequencer 8 voice polyphonic, twin oscillator 24 dB/octave low pass filter 6 & 12 dB/octave band pass filters 12 dB/octave high pass filter. The specification doesn’t tell you that this is a silky smooth performer and in the right hands can deliver and almost polyphonic modular experience…just an amazing machine.

The overall condition of this Synths is very good indeed and representative of a well looked after 30+ year old vintage synth with just the normal signs of wear to the panels and wood cabinet.

Roland Jupiter 6

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our customer

Came into stock: 10th October 2013

Servicing Status: Full service by KSR will commence post-sale.

Remarks: We’re delighted to be able to offer, what we consider is without any doubt, the finest condition Jupiter 6 in the world.

This Jupiter 6 has the Europa upgrade fitted and was purchased from new, in the UK, by the customer we are now selling it for. I has only ever been used in the owners home and lovingly cared for as their prized possession for over 30 years, but they have finally decided to let it go to fund other music projects.

The famed ‘Europa’ firmware upgrade for the Jupiter-6 provides a truly modern MIDI specification where all the synth front-panel parameters are controllable via Continuous Controller (SysEx). This brings the Jupiter 6 beautifully into the 21st Century DAW environment and adds significant ‘owners’ value to the synth.

The Jupiter 6 has been a hugely popular polysynth since its arrival in 1983, and offers aficionados that beautiful vintage polyphonic analogue Roland sound for very reasonable cost, certainly when compared to its sibling, the Jupiter 8. It’s a professional grade vintage instrument that’s only ever going to become more sought after and rare, so here is your opportunity to buy and absolutely stunning example that’s got to be a keeper!

MacBeth M3X

MacBeth M3X

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our customer

Came into stock: 20th Sept 2013

Servicing Status: Full service by KSR will commence post-sale.

Remarks: A modern classic for sure, and built by a passionate and very skilled synth engineer in Ken MAcBeth, the M3X was the first of his acclaimed analogue synthesizers and a fine product it is too.

This 3 VCO desk-top/rack-mountable system packs real analogue punch through its 24dB/Oct Transistor Ladder, and as with all Ken’s instruments has been built to almost military spec quality, so expect to see these lasting like the vintage Moogs have. The M3X offers a lot in a small package and even had MIDI and CV/Gate control options which makes this a simple/pure analogue synth to slip into your DAW/analogue studio and make a big difference.

The actual M3X for sale was purchased new by the owner and they bought it directly from Ken MacBeth himself. We believe here were only around 100 ever made, so that make this rare by any standards.

This M3X Runs on EU 220V and can be supplied with its original box and owners manual.

As with all Brokered Sales, the synth will be fully serviced post-sale before it’s sent to its new owner. We do this to ensure that the instrument leaves us in perfect operational condition, and it is backed up by our full warranty to give the new owner complete peace of mind. RA Minimoog

RA Minimoog – Serial Number: 1064

By the end of 1970, the now incorporated R. A. Moog Inc. introduced the Minimoog, manufactured in Trumansburg NY. The first of all the subsequent Model D Minimoogs ever made were called the ‘RA Minimoog’ named so after after Robert Moog’s initials.

http://www.moogmusic.com/legacy/ra-moog-co-trumansburg-factory

We present you with an April 1971 manufactured RA Minimoog, now available for sale.

This truly historic instrument has the fabled and early desined matched transistor filter. It has it’s original clear perspex mod-wheel housing and is completely original having had no modifications since it’s manufacture in April 1971 (date evidenced by Moog engineer test sticker internally).

It has to be one of many peoples life’s dream to own such an extraordinary instrument, and we are no different. Ordinarily an historic instrument of this rarity and value is kept locked away, but we wanted to make this available for you to own and appreciate (in every sense of the word).

It’s quite possible that Bob Moog himself had a hand in the assembly of this particular Minimoog and the original all metal facia just adds to the experience in knowing this is the genuine article from the early Moog company in 1971.

The person we  finally managed to purchase this RA Minimoog from was the second owner. He couldn’t remember who the very first owner was as he bought it from them around 1976, but it’s been in his possession for 37 years. Like many RA Minis, It was used, a player synth, and not stored away which in many ways is a good thing as the synth is still very happily working to this day. It was regularly serviced but never modified in anyway, so it’s completely 100% factory original – meaning: its has all its original PCBs, casings, cabinet, switches, pots, keys etc.

David Van Koevering, Bob Moog’s friend and historic collaborator, is a friend of the previous owner of this Minimoog.  David was interested in the particular history of this RA and had recently commented that only a handful where ever made in this particular configuration. David also mentioned that they used a locally supplied wood to build the cabinet on this RA, which was (very expensive) Rose Wood.

So, what we will do in terms of restoration?

My trusted Vintage Moog restoration expert, Kent Spong of KSR – London, has undertaken a sympathetic approach to the restoration to ensure it has retained the authentic essence of a 42 year old Moog synthesizer. The key-bed has been fully overhauled and re-bushed, deep cleaning to pots and switches, plus a full test and calibration ect. There has of course been much more detailed work operationally speaking but most of the technical work carried out has been to ensure the instrument is reliable and safe to use.

KSR have very carefully hand-finished the original Rose Wood Cabinet to bring back the character, and waxed finished it to enhance the natural aging and darkening of the wood (its patina). Without doubt this RA Minimoog look beautiful and it plays perfectly, scaling and tracking through all the footages very nicely thanks to the skill of a master restorer.

This extraordinary instrument is being sold with our enhanced 6 month warranty. It operates (perhaps obviously) under the US 110v voltage – we do not intend to convert it to EU 220V as that means replacing the transformer. Best left original we think, and it will work quite happily on an external step-down transformer, which we can supply free of charge if required.

Price: £10990 GBP.

Availability: This RA Minimoog is SOLD as at 4th November 2013.

Roland System 100M

This item is currently being restored

Came into stock: 1st August 2013

Restoration Status: Restoration underway by KSR now.

ETR (estimated time from restoration): September 2013

Remarks: Vintage analogue modular systems always have something special to offer, be it the sound, the heritage, the wonderful design, or perhaps in this case all three in fact.

The Roland 100M is a stunning and totally uniquely fashioned modular system manufactured around the late 1970s. The 100M is consistently considered a top-tier must-have vintage modular synthesizer by a huge number of fans, so the passage of synthy-time has clearly been kind enough that it should tell you something about this beautiful instrument.

We recently purchased this impressive vintage analogue modular system from a UK collector. The overall condition is excellent cosmetically and everything worked as it should, although we are having the entire system fully restored as standard practice for and vintage modular systems we sell.

We don’t think we need to tell you about how good this system is as you will no doubt all ready know, so here we shall just focus on the facts of what we have available for you:

System Configuration:

4 x M-191J five-module rack with multiple connectors
3 X 110 VCO / VCF / VCA
3 X 112 Dual VCO
2 x 121 Dual VCF
2 X 130 Dual VCA
4 X 140 Dual EG / LFO
2 X 150 LFO / SH / Ring / Noise
1 X 182 Sequencer
1 X 132 Dual Mixer / Voltage Processor
1 X 172 Phase / Delay
1 X 131 4 Channel Mixer
1 X 184 4 Note CV Polyphonic Keyboard

The 184 Keyboard controller offers true polyphonic CV/Gate control of this impressive system and has: 49-notes (C-C) 4-voice, with switchable mono/polyphonic, an arpeggiator, and polyphonic portamento. With the number of VCO/VCF/VCA/EG modules included in this modular there is easy scope to run the instrument polyphonically, or configure it in such a way that you could produce some seriously complex sounds, all triggered simultaneously.

Ask yourself that question – when is a modular system big enough?

So you can have an aspiration to own something the size of Hans Zimmer’s 100M, but the reality is you also need to sleep and eat, and actually get work done (deadlines?). There is an ‘optimal’ configuration that covers all the bread & butter work and then there should be some more exotic facilities. We honestly think this 4 cab + controller system as such is an optimal system. This would (arguably) offer more than enough facility and power to satisfy even the most demanding professional.

Our friends at KSR are subjecting this 100M to an extensive restoration with everything being addressed, from cleaning sockets, sliders, switches etc to the full electronic restoration: calibration and testing etc. The 184 Keyboard will be stripped and deep cleaned and the action restored to as-new condition. The restoration will ensure many years of reliable service and the system will be sold with a 6 month warranty.

KSR are converting the whole system to operate on EU 220V. The modular will be supplied with an assortment of patching cables which were supplied with the system.

Please note: We will not be splitting this system, so it’s sold as-is.

Guide Price Post-Restoration: Guide price £11500 GBP.

Availability: This Roland System 100M is now SOLD as at 3rd February 2014.

Picture of actual system being restored now, but many more high-res images will be available post-restoration.

Minimoog #13032

We have here an extremely late production model Minimoog, manufactured in 1981, which makes this one of the last few hundred ever made! This final production model is super stable in tuning and tracking and utilises the factory fitted buffer-board and last production Moog VCOs for the Minimoog.

We would describe this as in exemplary condition, and the high-res pictures we have taken of this stunning example almost do not do it justice.

One of the nice things about this super late model is that all the original Moog stockers are still present on the aluminium anodised back panel, which is also in super original condition.

This Mini, being one of the last few ever made, represents the last production version of the most iconic synthesiser ever made. This is a collectors item in its own right, but is certainly a perfect every-day useable synth and would fit right into a modern studio environment.

A note on the restoration:

On this particular example, we are having the original Moog cabinet re-finished by KSR and the results are always very impressive. The wood cabinet will been stripped, stained and wax finished and shows beautiful character in the grain, as you can see from the library picture below of another late model we restored recently..

Operationally speaking from the restoration standpoint, we do not change any electronic components that would compromise the integrity of the Moogs character. There might be some components that we will have prudently replaced due to age like but these are off-the-shelf components. The Keyboard has been completely stripped and rebuilt with a full set of new bushings, all pots and switches cleaned, and the final calibration and test finishes of the restoration.

This Minimoog #13032 is sold with a 3 month warranty. It will operate under either 110V or 220V (switchable).

Guide Price Post-Restoration: £4450 GBP.

Availability: This Minimoog is is now SOLD as at 28th September 2013.

EMS Synthi AKS

Came into stock:  30th April 2013

Remarks: A fabulous opportunity to own your EMS Synthi AKS, and this one is an absolute beauty…like new condition but made in the mid-70s!

This example is in immaculate cosmetic condition, completely unmodified and 100% perfectly working. We have recently fully pro-restored this particular example (in march 2013), and sold it to a customer in France, but they have decided not to keep it as they prefer the VCS3 model so we have purchased it back from them.

These iconic and truly amazing pure analogue music instruments are in great demand by professional users, and prices are being driven up fast on the second-hand market around the world, so now might be a good time to invest in one before they become ‘Vintage Buchla or Moog Modular’ prices.

This EMS Synthi AKS has a full compliment of Matrix pins, power & KS inter-connect cable and operates on EU 220V or US 110V (switchable). This Synthi AKS will be sold with a 3 month warranty.

Korg MiniKorg-700S

What a utterly fantastic little gem of a synth this is and loved by many synth heads (like us). The MiniKorg 700S is by any standards an archaic synth, but it’s really rather special indeed and has been used by all the great synth bands, including the Human League (“listen to the voice of Buddha” etc.).

Plenty of stuff on the net about these wonderful old-school analogue synths, and we rate them very highly, with 10/10 for character and quirkiness and the same for the flexibility & quality of the wonderful analogue sound it produces.

This particular example is in almost as-new condition..stunning! We have had brand new Walnut end-cheecks made for it by Lamond Design, and the whole synth has been fully pro-restroed by KSR, so this is arguably the best condition example available for sale in the world right now.

Korg MS20

This is for an original Korg MS20 (vintage) from the late 1970s.

With all the interest with the new Korg MS20 Mini it’d easy to get caught up in all the excitement, but the fact remains that the original MS20 is still the ‘real deal’ and a much coveted full sized semi-modular system with true vintage authenticity. The pleasure of owning an original/vintage analogue synthesizer can’t be understated just because a new boy is on the block from Korg, and this new mini-synth has certainly fired up everyone’s imagination, which has to be a good thing for analogue fans.

The other good news is that second hand prices for the ‘vintage Korg MS20’ have seen a reduction in the last year or so, so we were also able to source this really super condition example for a reasonable price.

So now is a good time to get hold of an original MS20, and we have this really beautiful condition example for sale.

The excellent cosmetic condition suggests only ever light home use during it’s life over the last 30+ years. KSR have just fully restored the synth, which is quite a big job on these models and requires the whole synth to be disassembled and rebuilt. There’s a lot done: every potentiometer, knob and jack-socket is deep cleaned, the PSU is re-capped, key-bed overhauled and a system-wide calibration carried out etc.

This particular machine runs 110V, but the synth will be supplied with a brand new step-down transformer if sold within the EU. Also, the MS20 sold with a full 3 month warranty.

Price: £1190 GBP.

Memorymoog w/MIDI

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our customer

Came into stock: Arrived at RL Music in mid-May 2013

Servicing Status: Full restoration by KSR was completed on 1st August 2013.

Remarks: We present the rare and titanic Memorymoog (standard Mk1 version) with a Kenton MIDI retrofit, in excellent cosmetic condition and recently fully pro-restored to top operational condition.

Memorymoogs have to be in the top 5 list of machines for any serious analogue fan and among the most individual sounding (monster) polysynths ever made. These instruments have become very hard to find in good condition, and demand for many of the truly awesome vintage synths has increased significantly leaving a big hole in the market for top quality examples.

This particular example is one of the best condition examples we have ever seen and is in ‘like new’ condition internally, which from experience, is a very good sign of reliability. Overall the cosmetic presentation is fantastic and it tunes perfectly from cold, even before KSR started the restoration work. This is by any definition a keeper!

Runs on EU 220V.
