EMS Synth A Mk2

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our customer

Came into stock: October 2017.

Restoration Status: A full service by KSR has already been carried out (completed on 1st November 2017), so this instrument is ready for sale now.

We’re delighted to be able to offer an EMS Synthi A Mk2 to our customers who want to experience a vintage EMS but don’t need the extra expense/facility of the KS (Keyboard/Sequencer) that the AKS model offers.

Identical to the Synthi AKS (synth) in sound & operation, the Synthi A is the ultimate portable synth, packaged in the same Spartanite case and offering the endless programming possibilities through the matrix panel interface. EMS originally named the Synth A the “Portabella” which followed the naming conventions of its early synths like the “Putney (VCS3 Mk1)” and Cricklewood (DK1) keyboard etc.

The EMS Synthi A was first brought to the market by EMS the same year as Moog launched the Model D Minimoog to the world – an auspicious year for synth fans indeed! This example we are offering for sale is a later revision, an Mk2, and was manufactured during the Datamonics company ownership period which would have been between 1979 to 1982. The Mk2 Synth A is usually identifiable but the power-conditioning components used internally, but the metal silver anodised panel is another way to quickly identify them, as the earlier (Mk1) versions were usually painted (white), although there may have been some cross-over.

Provenance
Our client literally rescued this Synthi A from a London school back in the late 1990s who were throwing it out, and the synth bears the marks of this being a genuine educational tool for children. You will see from the anodised metal panel that it was been hand-inscribed with “ILEA” and other markings. Most people in the UK would recognise that as meaning “Inner London Education Authority” – so this synth has faithfully served fresh young minds in its time, and perhaps even enthused a few (like we were back in the day) to take their love of synthesis further into adulthood….bravo!

Our client has used this instrument regularly since the 90s and even gigged with it for a few years in London, so this synth is not a ‘glass-case’ collector’s item by far, but to many people that brings its own appeal and means it has a genuine evidenced history & story to tell.
_______

At some time in the life of the instrument, an IEC power socket was fitted to the synth. The implementation is good. We assume that the use of the usual proprietary EMS power-cable was a problem for the school as these easily get lost, so someone fitted the IEC to it.

As this instrument is nearly 40 years old, and quite commonly, it did not come to us any significant service history from our client. We commissioned KSR to carry out an extensive ground-up overhaul to bring it up to a perfect operating specification, whilst ensuring its authenticity is preserved as much as possible. Electronic instruments of this age need a deep level of restoration, but we approach this kind of work sympathetically.

The restoration time & resources invested into this instrument by KSR include:

>Strip-down of panels & Spartanite case.
>Spartanite case deep-cleaned, re-finished & all hardware cleaned.
>Control Panels deep-cleaned.
>Every control component (potentiometers/switches/matrix panel), cleaned & lubricated
>Power-Supply re-capped & calibrated.
>Full system-wide calibration & soak-test.

The above restorative work is the minimum we asked KSR to carry out as they would all need this level of attention due to their age, but In addition to the above, the following work can also be carried out by request. This is a costed option, so is not included in the sales price listed at the bottom of this page:

*VCO stabilisation modification implemented in line with EMS guidelines = £400 GBP

*This Synthi A comes with a full complement of matrix pins, although to be honest, these original 38-year-old pins are well past there best so we would recommend you also purchase a brand new (full) set of matrix pins (supplied from EMS) for = £250 GBP

Our client did not ask us to get get the panels re-anodised/screen-printed as they always felt it’s history was an intrinsic part of the life of the synth, so it comes as it was used and intended for – an educational instrument in the 1970s with a genuine provenance. However, if you prefer to purchase this Synth A and then want to have the panels refinished (re-anodised/screen-printed) to look like new, then this is possible of course, so please contact us for a quote to have this carried out.

This instrument operates on EU 220V. The instrument is sold with a 3-month warranty from RL Music and we will also include a user manual in PDF format and a UK-plug IEC power cable.

Price: £7200 GBP.

Availability: This Synthi A Mk2 is now SOLD on reserve as at 28th March 2018.

EMS Synthi 2013

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK customer

Came into stock: Arrived at RL Music on 21st February 2018

Restoration Status: This nearly new EMS Synthi A is in perfect working condition and KSR have already given it a ‘health-check’ in the last couple of days, so this instrument is ready for sale now.

We’re delighted to offer a rare chance to buy a recently manufactured EMS Synthi A that Robin Wood at EMS only assembled in October 2013 (we have a copy of the original receipt). This Synthi A has also been fully modified by EMS with a suite of upgrades (done at the time of manufacture). As many of you know, the waiting list to buy one of these exquisite machines from Robin has been running at around 12 years, but we spoke to him recently and he confirmed that production is now finishing due to the Spartanite cases no longer being available.

This late 2013 model (serial number 45643) sounds identical & works the same way a vintage Synthi does, plus it has all the advantages of being a nearly new machine! It’s immaculate as you would expect and works flawlessly. This instrument has only had 2 owners since 2013, this first only having it for a couple of months (unused) before emigrating and selling it to our client. Our client found it did not suit their own style of music, so it’s barely had any use at all so it needs to find a new home.

A note of the EMS implemented Mods:
Oscillator Synth on Osc2
Voltage Controlled Shape Osc1 & Osc2
Filter mode switchable 18/24 db/oct
Filter ‘unslew’ switchable on filters CV
Buffered external gate input

Included in the sale (pictured below):
Original EMS Synthi User Manual
Proprietary EMS power-cable
Full set of Matrix Pins
2 x Matrix pin-to-3.5mm cables
Cinch-Jones-to-3.5mm loom

This instrument operates on EU 220V. The instrument is sold with a 3-month warranty from RL Music.

Price: £7990 GBP.

Availability: This Synthi A is now SOLD on reserve as at 28th March 2018.

EMS RVG

We are Brokering this vintage EMS module for and on behalf of our EU customer

Came into stock: Arrived at RL Music on 15th February 2018

Restoration Status: A full service by KSR will be carried out post-sale.

Remarks: An extremely rare vintage EMS ancillary studio module – the Random-Voltage-Generator, mounted in its original Afrormosia Wood case.

What is it, and what does it do?
The RVG produces a staircase type of output, the ‘steps’ of which occur randomly, but whose voltage range and time variance are controllable. The proprietary ‘facilities cord’ (pictured below) provides links all the outputs to a Synthi ‘A’ or VCS3, delivering VI to Input 1, V2 to Input 2, and Trigger to Attack. There is a very informative page on the ‘Old Tech – Vintage Synthesizer’ website that covers the RVG in some depth, so please click the link below to learn more:

http://www.oldtech.com/synth/EMSRandom1.html

As you can see from the pictures below, this RVG is in really nice 100% original condition with only some small signs of wear, as you would expect from a 45-year-old device. It’s is sold with a 3-month warranty and runs on EU 220V using the proprietary EMS power-socket (power cable supplied), and also included is the aforementioned proprietary ‘facilities cord.’

As with all Brokered Sales, the RVG will be fully serviced post-sale before it’s sent to its new owner. We do this to ensure that the instrument leaves us in perfect operational condition, and it is backed up by our full warranty to give the new owner complete peace of mind. The servicing is carried out as a priority once the sale has been completed, and although it will delay shipping/delivery by a short time, we know from experience that customers are happy to wait.

Price: £1300 GBP.

Availability: This EMS Random-Voltage-Generator is now SOLD as at 22nd February 2018.

Mutronics Mutator

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK customer

Came into stock:31st January 2017.

Remarks: Not a vintage effects but an absolute classic pro-audio device by any standards. The Mutronics Mutator is a great sounding pure analog signal processor that adds beautiful creamy filtering through its 24dB-per-octave analogue filters, with envelope follower capabilities, to any audio signal plus some useful on-board modulations options.

http://www.mutronics.co.uk/html/sos.htm

As you can see from the customer supplied picture, the unit is in excellent original condition with only some light wear to the control-surface and casings. Importantly, the Mutator is 100% fully operational.

Arp 2600 & 3604...

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK customer

Came into stock: August 2016.

Restoration Status: KSR have already fully undertaken a full overhaul of the Arp 2600 + 3604-P Keyboard ( completed in January 2017), so both items are ready for sale now.

Remarks: We have been given a unique opportunity here as this Arp 2600 + 3604-P Keyboard are owned by the son of the late Johnny Arbiter, who many of you will know, was the owner/operator (post 1990) of the famous Turnkey music retail business in London. Johnny died in 2003, and much of the collection of vintage keys that formed part of the Turnkey studio museum passed to his son, Dan Arbiter – our client.

We weren’t given a lot of detailed background information on this Arp 2600 System, but it was certainly in the Turnkey collection for some years (post 1990), although kept in storage since around 2005, hence our client had commissioned KSR to undertake a full systems-wide overhaul of both instruments, to prepare them for sale.

We’re confident that this version is a 2600P V3.0, manufactured between 1972 to 1974.

Features: Semi-normalised – 3 VCOs, 4 pole Lowpass VCF, VCA, Ring Modulator, 2 EGs, sample & hold Noise, Mic Preamp, Spring Reverb, Voltage Processor and Four Octave Keyboard….the list goes on.

Contains (see picture below):
Original Arp (Moog lawsuit) Filter for this model (encapsulated) 4012
VCOs are original (all encapsulated but no markings) will be Arp 4027-1
Ring Mod is 4014
VCA is 4019

Noted Modifications:

The LED modification on each VCO basically tracks the waveform pulse, so you have a visual reference on the speed of the oscillator, although at higher frequencies this LED becomes constant of course, but the lower the frequency then it’s actually quite useful, especially in darkened studio. The 1/4″ jack output modification about the pan-outs is just a mono-out socket, so handy if you want to take a mono signal straight out to a desk or outboard without needing an adaptor from the 3.5mm sockets.

Notes on the cosmetic condition:

The control surfaces/panels on the synth & keyboard are in very good original condition, so it was decided not to have these cosmetically restored, in order to keep them original. The Tolex covering and bright-work was in need of restoration (as is common on the old Arp systems), so KSR have re-covered both units, and replaced all the exterior nickel plated components. The Keys on the 3604-P were in good shape, so again, where kept original to retain that authentic vintage ageing across the key-bed.

Notes on the restoration:

Aside the re-Tolexing and replacement of the exterior bright work mentioned above, the operational restoration on the 2600 is extensive, and mostly all Arp 2600 systems we see these days need this level of attention to be honest. KSR have undertaken a complete ground-up rebuild of the electronics with full test and calibrations and PSU rebuild etc. Each and every slider was split apart, cleaned and rebuilt, every jack cleaned & tested, and a system-wide check of all connectors, and solder joints etc. Where possible, all the original parts were retained to ensure continuity and authenticity but some ageing components like power conditioning caps have been replaced, but only were absolutely necessary.

Around a £2000 GBP has been invested into this restoration, and most certainly worth with every penny, as a fully working Arp 2600 is still one of the best modular synths ever made, and as relevant to making music with today as it was 40+ years ago, with many pro-studios today using one as their ‘go-to synth.’

This vintage work of electronic art is now in fantastic condition throughout. It is supplied with its original paired monophonic 3604-P keyboard. Having the keyboard is useful but it has limited access to the extensive inputs into the main synth, so to get the most out of any Arp 2600 we would recommend using a multi-channel Midi to CV device like the Kenton Pro-2000…which we can supply but is not included in the price (ask us for a quote).

These instruments have become very hard to find in anything approaching even below average condition these days, so here is a rare opportunity to own a superb fully professionally restored example that will only appreciate in value and add something special to your studio. The provenance also adds something special to this system, so it’s genuinely part of synth lore.

This Arp 2600 + 3604-P Keyboard are sold with a 3 month warranty, and runs on EU220V. Both units come with their lids, and CV/Gate & Power cable. We are able to supply a copy of the user manual (PDF).

We can ship world-wide, so please ask us for a packaging & shipping quote for your preferred destination address.

Price: £7500 GBP.

Availability: This Arp 2600 + 3604-P Keyboard are now SOLD as at 6th February 2017.

Picture supplied below are of the actual Arp 2600 + 3604-P keyboard, but more high-res pictures will be available shortly.

Yamaha CS70M w/MIDI

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our customer

Came into stock: 7th October 2016.

Restoration Status: KSR to service once sold, and prior to shipping to the new owner.

Remarks: We’re excited to be able to get hold of this very nice condition CS70M (with Kenton MIDI) as they really are quite magnificent synths for a whole number of reasons. These were proper old-school designed hybrid digital/analogue systems made between 1981 and 1984, and it wasn’t long after these came out that the DX7 was introduced, which seems hard to believe really.

The CS70M has for many people been overlooked, or perhaps overshadowed by it’s bigger brother – the CS80, but this instrument has ascended in popularity among aficionados, and we know this synth is highly sought after by those who truly appreciate it.

6 Voice, dual channel (stereo), aftertouch, 30 memories, ring-mod, chorus & Leslie effects, lowpass, highpass, and bandpass VCF, fully programmable and with a 4 channel polyphonic sequencer etc.

Those in the know will already tell you that this is one of the finest analogue polys ever made, and a work of audio art in its own right. It shares most of the same technology as the CS80 and many of the characteristics and tonal qualities as well. The other big ‘Hello’ is also the fact you can get really close to the CS80 sound for a lot less money…this makes it even more appealing considering the price.

The owner we are selling this magnificent machine for has owned it since 1990 (original sales receipt supplied – bought from from a music dealer in Bath), and had only ever used it at home since. The owner had Kenton fit MIDI to it in 1992 (sales receipt also supplied)

The cosmetic condition of this example is very good overall but there are signs of user wear & natural ageing to the front panel paint, and along the rear-panel in places. The faux wood laminate cabinet it in very good order with only a couple of spots where this has been worn. The pictures we have taken are honest and represent the condition well, so we grade this is ‘good original condition – 7.5 out of 10 cosmetically.’ It’s not a museum piece for sure, but if it’s the sound that’s important to you then it will deliver this beautifully.

Operationally, our trusted ‘Yamaha CS Series’ restoration experts – KSR will be carrying out a full service on the CS70M, which will ensure 100% perfect operation for its new owner.

There are a few demos on YT of these but we like this rather ambient-noodling one from ‘MoreAnalog’ because it demonstrates nicely how the CS70M has the CS80 vibe we are talking about: https://youtu.be/1_jy9ERBTPs

As with all Brokered Sales, the synth will be fully serviced post-sale before it’s sent to its new owner. We do this to ensure that the instrument leaves us in perfect operational condition, and it is backed up by our full warranty to give the new owner complete peace of mind. The servicing is carried out as a priority once the the sale has been completed, and although it will delay shipping/delivery by a short time, we know from experience that customers are happy to wait.

This CS70M is sold through RL Music with a 3 month warranty, and can operate on US 110V or EU 220V. Also, a photocopy of the user manual in a binder is supplied with the synth, plus the service receipts from Kenton for the MIDI install, and the original shop receipt from the current owner (as mentioned above). Also the Kenton MIDI user manual is included, and of course, the proprietary Yamaha Power-cable.

Guide Price Post-Restoration: £tbc GBP

Availability: This CS70M is now SOLD as at 21st October 2016.

Arp 2600

We are Brokering this Arp 2600 for and on behalf of our UK client.

Status: This item is in stock at RL Music.

Restoration Status: Full pre-sale service/health-check has just been completed by KSR, so the synth is available for sale now!

Remarks: Although these are not rare by some vintage synth standards, finding an Arp 2600 in anything approaching even good condition is a real challenge in 2016. This is why we invest such a lot of time, resources and money into getting them restored to the highest possible level that can be achieved – a FULL cosmetic and operational project restoration!

This sales listing is for an Arp 2600 synth only, so does not come with any keyboard controller. The actual version is a 2600P V3.0, manufactured between 1972 to 1974.

This Arp 2600 we are Brokering, was actually sold to the owner in 2013 by RL Music, so we are delighted to have the opportunity to re-sell such a fine example for our client.

Contains:
Original Arp (Moog lawsuit) Filter for this model (encapsulated) 4012
VCOs are original (one is encapsulated) Arp 4027-1
VCA is 4019

The owner of this Arp is the highly respected EM artist, Paul Lawler (www.paullawler.org). Paul kindly gave us his permission to disclose who the owner was as he felt there was some value in the potential new owner knowing that this 2600 has been used on his recent Arcane and Contact albums. There are even some video’s of Paul using this actual Arp 2600 here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RteFFsJjSrg

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88SjxmIM3Rk

The restoration work we invested into this Arp 2600 in 2013 was extensive (what we term Total Restoration).  The work included re-Tolexing the cabinet & lid, stripped the control-panel to bare metal and had it professionally repainted and screen-printed. We had all the sliders and sockets deep cleaned and the whole synth was electronically restored including a PSU rebuild/re-cap etc. We even fitted a full set of brand new slider caps to finish it off.

This ex-RL Music prepared Arp 2600 is over 40 years old, and is in excellent condition, and only shows only the lightest of wear from 3 years of studio use at Paul’s premises.  On average we spend around £3000 GBP just in restoration costs for these models (synth & keys), and this example we are Brokering has gone through the full restorative treatment only 3 years ago. So, if you have been looking to own a beautiful condition, and electronically sorted Arp 2600, then look no further.

As this Arp has no original 3620 or 3604-P keyboard controller, the 2600 can be very simply operated via a Midi-to-CV converter, or any 1V/Oct controller for that matter. Using a multi-channel MIDI-to-CV device like the Kenton Pro-2000 means 3 note polyphonic (or paraphonic in fact) operation is achievable.

This Arp 2600 is sold with a 3 month warranty and runs on EU220V (via an IEC socket retro-fitted to the synth in 2013 by KSR). A copy owners manual will be supplied (on PDF), and a UK IEC power-cable if required.

Price: £6490 GBP.

Availability: This Arp 2600 is no longer available (as at 29th July 2016).

ENQUIRE AFTER THIS ARP 2600

EMS Synthi AKS

Came into stock:  December 2014

Servicing Status: Full restoration by KSR has just been completed.

Remarks: A rare opportunity to own your EMS Synthi AKS in excellent pro-restored condition, and has some great modifications to extend it’s functionality.

This Synthi AKS has a really interesting and genuine provenance as it was purchased new by the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester (UK) from EMS back in the 1970s. The Synthi was used for electroacoustic educational programs right up until the 90s, but then stored. The person we purchased it from was a student there and acquired it from the college when they were upgrading their music department about 18 years ago, and it had remained unused since.

When KSR received the Synthi AKS, and they got on with some preliminary restorative cleaning work, it revealed a really lovely cosmetic condition machine, and the electronics inside were in almost pristine condition. We know that the college had some modifications implemented to the synth, which very nicely extended the functionality, but this instrument was clearly well looked after. As part of the restoration work KSR have carried out, all these mods have been tested and everything checked out perfectly.

There is no documentation on the modifications, but from what we can determine through testing, the following has been implemented:

>VCO 1 assign to LFO mode switch
>VCO 2&3 wave-shape invert switch
>VCO 1,2&3 wave-shape assign switch
>VCO 2&3 extended wave-shape control knobs
>Envelope auto-trigger disable switch
>Reverb dry/wet enable switch
>Multi-turn potentiometers on the Input Level 1&2 controls (very useful for fine tuning).

The Synthi AKS is an extremely powerful synthesizer in standard spec, but these mods can really take the synth to a different level altogether.

These iconic and truly amazing pure analogue music instruments are in great demand by professional users, and prices are being driven up fast on the second-hand market around the world, so now might be a good time to invest in one before they become ‘Vintage Buchla or Moog Modular’ prices.

This EMS Synthi AKS comes with a full compliment of Matrix pins. KS inter-connect cable, and of course the power cable. It can operate on either EU 220V or US 110V (switchable), and it is sold with our normal 3 month warranty.

Sales Price: £9,900 UK Pounds.

Availability: This Synthi AKS is now SOLD as at 22nd April 2016.

Arp 2600 & 3604...

We are Brokering this vintage Arp 2600 Tonus for and on behalf of our UK customer

We present the stunning and iconic early-1970s Arp 2600 semi-modular which contains the sought after (and so called) pre-lawsuit Moog 4012 style filter. This instrument is approaching 43 years old and just sounds absolutely amazing.

This very early Arp 2600 Tonus, with original 4012 Filter + 3604P Keyboard controller, features: Semi-normalised – 3 VCOs, 4 pole Lowpass VCF, VCA, Ring Modulator, 2 EGs, sample & hold Noise, Mic Preamp, Spring Reverb, Voltage Processor and Four Octave Keyboard….the list goes on

This beautiful instrument has been maintained meticulously over the last 15 years, with no expense spared in its upkeep. The Arp has been in regular use since the current owner purchased it from the USA in the 90s, so works perfectly, and is one of the finest all original examples we have ever seen having all the panels (paint & screen printing) in excellent condition.

We have already had our vintage synth restoration experts – KSR, fully service the Arp, and we asked them to improve the presentation of the cabinets of both the synth and keyboard by re-tolexing them all and fitting new nickel fixtures etc. The finished results are outstanding, with this beautiful synth now looking in top condition.

This is a fantastic opportunity to buy one of the most icon vintage synths ever made, and the price has been agreed with our client to keep it very competitive, so even cheaper than any complete system you will find being sold privately anywhere in the world right now, and this is sold with a full warranty.

The original 3604P keyboard is useful, and is a historically correct partner for this model of 2600, but in reality offers limited access to the extensive inputs into the main synth, so to get the most out of the 2600 we would recommend using a multi-channel Midi to CV device like the Kenton Pro-2000…which we can supply but is not included in the price.

These unique synths have become very hard to find in even ‘average to poor’ condition these days, so here is a rare opportunity to own a superb fully professionally restored example that will only appreciate in value and add something special to your studio.

Supplied with all (restored) lids and cables (not pictured) & runs on US 110V. We can provide a step-down transformer for this free of charge if the eventual buyer is EU based.

Price: £6990 GBP.

Availability: This Arp 2600 Tonus is now SOLD as at 7th August 2015

Elka Synthex Mk3

We are Brokering this Elka Synthex for and on their behalf of a UK customer

Came into stock: 25th March 2015

Restoration Status: KSR have recently undertaken a full service on this synth, so it’s ready for sale now.

ETR (estimated time from restoration): Available for sale now!

Remarks: This has to be the one of the finest analogue polysynths ever made and was used by all the top artists of the 80’s, especially JMJ. Built in 4 track sequencer 8 voice polyphonic, twin oscillator 24 dB/octave low pass filter 6 & 12 dB/octave band pass filters 12 dB/octave high pass filter. The specification doesn’t tell you that this is a silky smooth performer and in the right hands can deliver and almost polyphonic modular experience…just an amazing machine.

This particular example we are Brokering for our customer was purchased from new, so only one owner, and it has a very interesting history. This actual instrument was used on tour (by the owner) with many great bands, including; Vice Squad, Bad Company, Paul Jones from Manfred Mann’s Earth Band, David Coverdale from Whitesnake and Iron Maiden…to name but a few. The Synthex was very well cared for during it’s time on the road.

The cosmetic condition is good (as you can see from the pictures), although certainly not pristine, but the sales price reflects this. If you have been after owning one of these amazing vintage synths, looking for a really reliable example that works perfectly, looks good for its age and is keenly priced, then this is a great opportunity.

Our own vintage synth restorers – KSR, have very recently full serviced the synth, so it’s 100% perfect on the operational side, with all functions/control working smoothly and as you would expect.

Being a Mk3 version, this Synthex has factory fitted MIDI as standard.

This Synthex operates on EU 220V, and is supplied with the original user manuals, factory cassette and flight-case (as pictured). As the instrument is being Brokered through RL Music, it will be sold with a full 3 month warranty, and can be shipped world-wide. We will fully test and clean the Synthex prior to sending out to any buyer, and demo’s are available by appointment only.

Guide Price Post-Restoration: £6290 UK Pounds.

Availability: This Mk3 Elka Synthex is now SOLD as at 1st September 2015.

POLYFUSION QP-1

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our customer

Servicing Status: Full service by KSR will commence post-sale

Remarks: A unique opportunity to own a very rare Polyfusion Surround-A-Sound QP-1 stand-alone effects module in great all original condition.

Pink Floyd used these devices in their live set up for quadraphonic audio effect/control etc., and can also be used to control CV the same way with any modular synth. Polyfusion did build the functionality of this quad-control into their keyboard controllers but it was rare to find these stand-alone units.

It’s believe that only a couple of hundred of these were ever made by Polyfusion back in the mid to late 1970s,

Th unit features an ‘auto and manual’ mode. Auto mode uses a built-on LFO to which is controlled by a Panning (forward or reverse), Speed and Depth knobs. Manual mode is activated by the joystick.

This Surround-A-Sound QP-1 operates on US 110V – it will be sold with a 3 month warranty.

As with all Brokered Sales, the Surround-A-Sound will be fully serviced post-sale before it’s sent to its new owner.

Sales Price: £1335 UK Pounds.

Servicing Status: Full service by KSR will commence post-sale.

Remarks: A nice condition of the mid version (Mk2) Elka Synthex – with the factory MIDI option delivered through break-out-MIDI cables (supplied)

This has to be the one of the finest analogue polysynths ever made and was used by all the top artists of the 80’s, especially JMJ.

The overall condition of this Synths is very good indeed and representative of a well looked after 30+ year old vintage synth with just the normal signs of wear to the panels and wood cabinet.

Runs on EU 220V, and is sold with a full RL music 3 month warranty.

As with all Brokered Sales, the synth will be fully serviced post-sale before it’s sent to its new owner. Roland System 100M

This item is currently being restored

Came into stock: 1st August 2013

Restoration Status: Restoration underway by KSR now.

ETR (estimated time from restoration): September 2013

Remarks: Vintage analogue modular systems always have something special to offer, be it the sound, the heritage, the wonderful design, or perhaps in this case all three in fact.

The Roland 100M is a stunning and totally uniquely fashioned modular system manufactured around the late 1970s. The 100M is consistently considered a top-tier must-have vintage modular synthesizer by a huge number of fans, so the passage of synthy-time has clearly been kind enough that it should tell you something about this beautiful instrument.

We recently purchased this impressive vintage analogue modular system from a UK collector. The overall condition is excellent cosmetically and everything worked as it should, although we are having the entire system fully restored as standard practice for and vintage modular systems we sell.

We don’t think we need to tell you about how good this system is as you will no doubt all ready know, so here we shall just focus on the facts of what we have available for you:

System Configuration:

4 x M-191J five-module rack with multiple connectors
3 X 110 VCO / VCF / VCA
3 X 112 Dual VCO
2 x 121 Dual VCF
2 X 130 Dual VCA
4 X 140 Dual EG / LFO
2 X 150 LFO / SH / Ring / Noise
1 X 182 Sequencer
1 X 132 Dual Mixer / Voltage Processor
1 X 172 Phase / Delay
1 X 131 4 Channel Mixer
1 X 184 4 Note CV Polyphonic Keyboard

The 184 Keyboard controller offers true polyphonic CV/Gate control of this impressive system and has: 49-notes (C-C) 4-voice, with switchable mono/polyphonic, an arpeggiator, and polyphonic portamento. With the number of VCO/VCF/VCA/EG modules included in this modular there is easy scope to run the instrument polyphonically, or configure it in such a way that you could produce some seriously complex sounds, all triggered simultaneously.

Ask yourself that question – when is a modular system big enough?

So you can have an aspiration to own something the size of Hans Zimmer’s 100M, but the reality is you also need to sleep and eat, and actually get work done (deadlines?). There is an ‘optimal’ configuration that covers all the bread & butter work and then there should be some more exotic facilities. We honestly think this 4 cab + controller system as such is an optimal system. This would (arguably) offer more than enough facility and power to satisfy even the most demanding professional.

Our friends at KSR are subjecting this 100M to an extensive restoration with everything being addressed, from cleaning sockets, sliders, switches etc to the full electronic restoration: calibration and testing etc. The 184 Keyboard will be stripped and deep cleaned and the action restored to as-new condition. The restoration will ensure many years of reliable service and the system will be sold with a 6 month warranty.

KSR are converting the whole system to operate on EU 220V. The modular will be supplied with an assortment of patching cables which were supplied with the system.

Please note: We will not be splitting this system, so it’s sold as-is.

Guide Price Post-Restoration: Guide price £11500 GBP.

Availability: This Roland System 100M is now SOLD as at 3rd February 2014.

Picture of actual system being restored now, but many more high-res images will be available post-restoration.
