Remarks: The classic rack polysynth combo is considered by many enthusiasts to be one of the best sounding vintage analogue rack-synths ever.

The MKS-80 Super Jupiter is powerful velocity and pressure sensitive 8 voice/16 VCO analogue polysynth with that big vintage Roland sound, and a stack of modulation and editing facilities.  The accompanying MPG80 controller is an essential piece of kit if you want to really dig down into the programming and open up the synth’s capabilities, and is a joy to use.

This unit (Serial #633634) is the much sought after Rev.5 version of the MKS-80 (see PCB picture below) featuring the Roland IR3R03 VCO and VCF/VCA IR3R05 chipset, amongst other architectural differences to the earlier versions.  Many say the Rev.5 comes closest to sounding like the Jupiter 8, but we’ll leave that debate to the internet to continue.

The cosmetic condition of this MKS-80 is outstanding, with only very light markings in evidence that this rack-synth has been very well looked after by our Client, whom has owned this instrument around 22 years, and only ever used in his home.

The MKS-80 work perfectly and contains many of their original patches, and they’re simple to set up in your studio and get to work with straight out of the box.

This example is a EU220V~UK240V machine, and is supplied with a photo-copy of the user manual and an IEC cable with UK-plug fitted.

Remarks: We are delighted to offer this superb condition example Yamaha CS-60, which is supplied with its original lid, legs and expression & sustain pedals.

The CS-60 is an 8 x VCO – 8 note true polyphonic synth with essentially the same panel layout and identical sound engine as the flagship CS-80, including aftertouch (mono). Also, this model offers user-programmable sounds/storage, which might not sound much of a big deal in 2023, but in 1978 that was a key selling point and something the cheaper CS-50 didn’t offer.

As mentioned above, this CS-60 (serial #1237) was fully serviced by master CS Series technician; Kent Spong at KSR in December 2022, so it is 100% fully operational. The cosmetic condition of the front panel is excellent, and Tolex covering in very good shape overall with some light wear but no damage/tears, and the metal catches and hinges are all present, although the chrome does show patina. This CS-60 is complete as it comes with its original lid, legs, expression and sustain pedals and bag.

This example is factory stock in terms of specification, so no modifications have been implemented. Kenton is still producing a MIDI retrofit kit for this model.  If you would like to have MIDI fitted, please speak to us about your requirements when you enquire, and we will provide the costs for the supply of the kit and installation by Kent at KSR.

Quite remarkably, our client purchased this CS-60 new from the London Synth Centre in 1978, and it’s only ever been used at home.  This exceptional provenance can be documented as a signed letter should the buyer of this synth wish to have that as proof.  This does add intrinsic value as a single-owner machine is such a rare occurrence for a 45 year old instrument.

The Yamaha CS series polysynths have a beautifully characterful and distinctive sound that is unique. The CS50 has essentially the same panel layout and sound engine that CS-60 and CS-80 use, including aftertouch (mono). It’s a 4 x VCO – 4 note true polyphonic synth, and this synth produces some beautiful timbres whilst having a bright and very playful character, and is a wonderful instrument and a superb stepping stone to its more powerful siblings – the CS-60 and the incredible CS-80.

This CS-50 (serial #1916) has already had a full service by master CS Series technician; Kent Spong at KSR, so is 100% fully operational. The cosmetic condition of the front-panel is excellent, and tolex covering in good shape overall with the normal wear and tear that these have, and the metal catches and hinges are all present although the chrome on these are showing patina.

Remarks: The demand for high-quality examples of the world’s most famous drum machine never relents, so we were delighted to be able to offer this good condition TR-808 with MIDI.

Our client has owned this TR-808 since 2018, having purchased it then from a reputable UK vintage synth dealer, so it had been fully serviced and prepared for sale at that time, and the dealer also fitted a MIDI-in modification for our client, through the TR-808 Din-Sync socket at back of the unit, although the switch next to the socket still provides the option to just use the Din-Sync if preferred. 

Our client purchased the Stardust cover, so this is supplied in the sale.

The TR-808 is fully operational of course and looking at the cosmetic presentation, it’s in very good overall condition, fully intact, although showing a patina to the painted finish surfaces, which is consistent with many other 40+ years old TR-808s the we have seen.  The pictures below show you the drum-machine from all angles, so you can asses it for yourself, but it’s a solid working example that would suit regular studio use.

Remarks: The TR909 is simply a classic sounding analogue drum machine and used by a huge array of top artists with thousands of reviews on-line so we’re not going to tell you anything new here. Most professional musicians we know have at least 2 or even 3 of these machines and they usually get very heavy studio and live use which is a testament to the rugged, stable and reliable design from Roland in the mid 80s.

Our client has owned this TR-909 since 2018, having purchased it from a reputable synth dealer in Japan, so it had been fully serviced prior to shipping.  Kent at KSR has just given the TR-909 a full health check, including fitting new batteries, so it’s all ready for its new owner.

Our client purchased the Stardust cover, so this is supplied in the sale.

Remarks: The CR78 has to be one of the most distinctive drum machines ever made, and has been used by used by artist such as: Brian Ferry, Gary Numan, 808 State, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Hall & Oates, Ultravox etc. 

Our client has owned this CR78 since mid-2019, having purchased it from a private seller in Belgium, whom had owned it from new. Kent at KSR has just given the CR78 a full health check, so it’s all ready for its new owner.

This CR78 is fully operational, does not have any modifications and the cosmetic presentation is excellent aside some tiny marks to the faux wood cabinet (see pictures below).

Included in the sale is also a Future Retro Swynx unit (pictured below), a sync box that converts MIDI signals into MIDI clock, DinSync24, CR-78 clock and analog clock.  Our client has supplied to us the Swynx and its external UK (220~240V) 3-pin type power-supply but no cables.

Service Status:  Full service by Mr CS80 himself, Kent Spong of KSR , was carried out in July 2022.

Remarks: 

A rare opportunity to buy the instrument that Vangelis made his own and is largely recognised as the finest analogue polysynth ever produced, the Yamaha CS-80.

Background:

This CS80 we are offering for sale comes to us for Brokering from a private owner who had sent the instrument to KSR directly for a full service to ensure it’s fully operational and ready for us to sell for them.  The serial number (#1107) tells us this is an earlier production version, so will date back to around 1978.  

Kent at KSR told us that he had this actual CS-80 in for a full operational refurbishment several years ago, so it’s had all the critical updates done for stability and longevity.  The service that’s just been carried out has mainly focussed on calibrations and a replacement Key-Assigner IC.  We fully tested the CS-80 at the KSR workshop on 11th August and can attest to it being 100% perfectly working – it’s got a lovely tone, with it being an earlier production model.

Most CS-80 have lost their ‘pedals, music stand and legs’ over the years, so we cannot supply these original accessories to the new owner, and like so many, this example for sale does not have most of these either, although it is supplied with a Yamaha branded sustain pedal (pictured).  This CS-80 does not have its original lid either. It will come supplies with an original Yamaha CS-80 service manual, which is actually a folder full of original schematics.  Lastly, the current owner has included an historic bill of sale that’s survived with this instrument dated from 1988, which rather amusingly priced the CS-80 at £325, so a nice piece of provenance at least.

If MIDI is required on the CS-80, then we can normally supply and install the Kenton Midi retrofit Kits for an additional charge, so please ask us for a quote to supply and install this for you. Please note that any modifications like fitting MIDI are only carried out after the synth has been purchased in full.

This CS-80 operates on EU220V but can be converted to US110V if required by Kent at KSR (subject to quotation).

Condition:

The overall cosmetic condition of this CS-80 is good, but it does show signs of wear to the control surfaces and tolex, as we would expect from a 44-year-old instrument, and we hope the pictures we have provided with this listing give you a good feel for how it presents.  Most importantly, it’s working perfectly, so it would serve as a superb studio machine, and because of the world-renowned skills of Kent at KSR with this model, he’s able to ‘dial in’ the tuning of the VCO to work optimally for this specific machine.  This CS-80 has not had any modifications done to it, so it’s a completely original example.

With Kent’s agreement, we took a picture of him with the CS-80.  As many of you will know, Kent Spong is recognised worldwide as one of the top CS-80 specialist technicians, so you could not have a more qualified person to set up this synth and support it.  Just Google ‘Kent Spong and CS-80’, and you will see that his reputation is well deserved where the CS-80 is concerned, and of course, just about any make and model of vintage synth.

Warranty provided on this CS80:

The CS80 is sold with a 3-month warranty as standard, which covers all parts and labour and telephone/Skype technical support from KSR.  The CS-80 currently resides at the KSR workshop, where it is available for demo (upon request).

Remarks: 

It’s not often that digital synths make it into the ‘vintage’ club, but the JD-800 has long been recognised as one of those machines that really stood out. We think it was not just the sound engine but the control surface that pandered to our need for dedicated access to functions other than all the usual menu-diving synths made in the 90s, so this was a huge appeal.

Background:

Our client purchased this JD-800 in the last 90s, although it’s hardly been used in the last 10+ years, so he commissioned KSR to fully refurbish the synth, which covered the key-bed issues these models suffer with. The synth was never used outside the home and comes supplied with the M-512E Memory Card (512K).

Condition:

The cosmetic condition of the outer plastic case in general, all control surfaces and the keys is very good, with just some small signs of reasonable wear for a 30-year-old synth.  You can see from the pictures that this JD-800 is fully 100% intact. All its original knobs & slider caps are present, and the key-bed has had the well-documented ‘glue’ residue issue fixed by KSR.  

The JD-800 is a EU220V version, and we will supply the synth with an EU-type 2-Pin cable that Roland used for these.

Remarks: This Juno 60 was purchased by our client some years ago and was only ever used in the home.  The cosmetic condition is very good, and the whole synth only shows light indications of use & wear to the control surface and faux wood cabinet, but overall, it’s a very nice machine at an exceptionally good price. 

The design of the Juno 60 has to be one of the best Roland ever produced in terms of simplicity of sound design and warmth of character. The Juno 60 has been a ‘go-to’ synth for working musicians wanting that vintage sound for quite a while now.  It kind of defies logic that a DCO synth could deliver such a lush and musical tone, and it’s won the hearts and minds of all synthesists who’d had the opportunity to own or play one.

This synth sounds and operates like all Juno 60 should, and KSR has just fully serviced the synth, so it’s 100% working perfectly and good to go.  The price has been agreed with our client to reflect the overall condition and to try for a quick sale, so it’s likely the best value Juno 60 in the world being sold from a dealer.

Remarks: This Jupiter 6 was purchased by our client some years ago and is only ever used in the home.  The cosmetic condition is excellent, and the whole synth only shows very light indications of use & ware – this is remarkable for a keyboard nearly 40 years old!

Servicing Status: KSR have already carried out a full service on this A6 in July 2022;

Remarks: This more modern analogue synth, although over two decades old now (vintage yet?), has some serious curb appeal and could never be accused of lacking facility or punch.

The A6 is an inspired design by Alesis, but with production ceasing some years ago, the synth achieved cult status amongst synthesists, so another great synth for the halls of fame and used by too many artists to list.

The current owner has owned the A6 for only a few short years and only ever used it at home (smoke & pet free etc.), so the cosmetic and operational condition of the A6 is pristine. We sold this A6 to our customer back in 2018, so we know this machine’s quality is very high.

Build Date: 4th December 2002

Our customer purchased one of the excellent quality Stardust synth covers for the A6 (pictured below), which is included in the sale.

Kent at KSR has gone through the A6, checking the power supply, the operational functions/switches, memory etc., and deep cleaning all the potentiometers, so there are no ‘jumping’ encoders, which is a known weakness of these machines.  As you can see from our photos, it’s cosmetically like new.

This Andromeda A6 is sold through RL Music with a 3-month warranty and can operate on US 110V or EU 220V. The A6 is supplied with an IEC power cable (UK 3-pin type).

Remarks: The demand for high-quality examples of the world’s most famous drum machine continues to grow, so we were delighted to be able to offer this outstanding condition TR-808. 

Our client has owned this beautiful condition TR-808 for several years and had it fully serviced a few years ago by KSR who also retrofitted the Kenton MIDI kit into it. Kent at KSR has just given the drum machine a full health check so it’s all ready for its new owner.  It also comes with the perspex overlay, which is showing its age now but it’s done a fine job of protecting the panel.

Plenty has been said & written about this iconic instrument, and the significant number of clones/copies, and even Roland’s TR08, are all made in homage to the iconic status that the original machines hold.  It sounds great of course and is one of those ‘must-have’ instruments if you’re serious about your vintage analogue sound.

The operational condition is flawless, and as you can see in the high-res pictures below, the cosmetic condition is fabulous with only a tiny amount of any noticeable wear, which for an instrument that’s now 40+ years old is quite something.

This TR-808 is sold through RL Music with a 3-month warranty and operates on EU 220V and currently has an EU style 2-pin plug fitted as it has come from our client in Germany, although for any UK buyers of this we can fit a UK plug. We can supply the user manual in PDF format.

We present the rare and rather epic Memorymoog (standard Mk1 version), in excellent cosmetic condition and was previously sold to our client after it had been fully overhauled to top operational condition in 2017.

Background:

Our client purchased this Memorymoog from RL Music in late 2017 and had a Kenton MIDI retrofit kit added to it at that time.  The Moog has been used only in a home studio since then and had been back to KSR for a check over and calibration.

Condition:

Although no cosmetic restoration has been carried out other than deep-cleaning to all the exterior surfaces, the cosmetic condition is 100% original and excellent, as you can see from the pictures below.

Being an ex-RL Music restored Memorymoog, we are proud to see this instrument looking so beautiful and perfectly working, so a testament to the investment made into its preparation 5 years ago.

Health-Check & Servicing:

KSR has already full assessed the Memorymoog for us before we put this up for sale, so we know it’s in perfect working order, but we will have another health check carried out post-sale, which will add around 14 days to the post-sale completion. A full system-wide operational restoration by KSR was carried out in 23rd August 2017.

Remarks: 

The consumer version of the Juno 106, has been gaining popularity in recent years simply due to the price point on the 106 having gone up so much.  The HS-60 is architecturally identical to the Juno 106 (aside from the speakers obviously), so for the savings against the 106 it’s looks like a good deal in 2022.

Produced around 1985, the HS-60 is a 6 voice DCO based polysynth that sounds the same as a Juno 106, which is a really good thing as the 106 is a super sounding vintage synth.  It all comes with MIDI.

Background:

Our client purchased this HS-60 only a few years ago, and the Roland has only been used at his home.  It had previously been retrofitted with the 80017A VCF VCA Juno-106 voice chip Filter IC clones from Analogue Renaissance, so it’s all been sorted.

Condition:

The cosmetic condition is excellent, but check out pour photo’s to verify that.  addressed then.

Operationally it’s 100%, but we will have KSR fully check the HS-60 post-sale and any service items needed will be addressed.

Here’s a very rare opportunity to pick up a beautiful vintage Oberheim collection that centres around a superb condition OB-Xa, and is companioned by the DX Drum Machine and  DSX Polyphonic Sequencer.  

Background:

Our client, the owner of this superb condition collection, originally purchased the OB-Xa from us in 2017, when we had fully restored it that year, so it’s been good to see this synth again.  Our client went to a lot of time, expense and trouble to subsequently source the DX and DSX machines from collectors, and was only ever interested in absolutely top condition examples.  All three machines have been located in our client’s home studio since he purchased them.

In addition, our client had made some very high-quality (branded) covers for the OB-Xa and DX Drum Machine.  The DSX also has the original proprietary interconnect cable to run the sequencer into the OB-Xa. We’ve included multiple pictures here to show all these items.

Condition:

The cosmetic condition is excellent with just some small signs of wear to the control surfaces and wood end-cheeks of all three machines.  You can also see from the pictures we took that all three instruments are fully 100% intact, so all have their original Oberheim knobs, faders etc.   

This OB-Xa is an 8 voice system that has the 120 program memory upgrade fitted, as well as a Kenton MIDI kit.

As mentioned above, this system has been through the hands of Kent at KSR as a pre-sales health check and everything was 100% operational, but we will have all three instruments fully checked again post-sale and any service items needed will be applied, but the OB-Xa was fully restored in 2017, as mentioned.

Service Status:

Remarks: 

First released in 1975, the Moog Taurus 1 (47 years ago!), the Taurus 1 carved out a reputation as the go-to Bass Pedal of choice for most of the biggest bands of the day. It’s still in use today by many artists, although Moog’s reissue has probably retired many of the vintage units from daily use, it’s a killer bass synth nonetheless and they are now scarce and highly collectable.

Background:

Our client, the owner of this Taurus 1, has owned them for over 30 years and purchased them as he was simply a fan of the instrument and the association for the music they were played on back in the day.  The owner is not a professional musician, so the Moog has been kept in his home this last 3 decades and appreciated and admired as a unique piece of music instrument history.

Condition:

The cosmetic condition is very good for what is a floor-standing foot-playing instrument, so we would rate this 8/10. It’s clear but looking at the Bakelite pedal covers that this Taurus 1 was never used ‘on the road’ so it’s has had a very gentle life.  There are some signs of wear of course, and a small mark on the laminate cover, which we’ve highlighted in the picture below.  There is some glue residue showing from around the overlay.

The aluminium chassis & anodising is in good order and the faux wood sides are in great condition.  You can see from the pictures we took that this example is full 100% intact, and in really super condition overall.

Health-Check & Servicing:

As mentioned above, this set of Taurus 1 has been through the hands of Kent at KSR back in December 2021, so he has gone through the entire operation of the Moog to check its readiness for sale.  Aside from some cleaning of the pots and sliders, and the pedal contacts, the Taurus 1 is in very good operational condition.  We will have the PSU re-capped, a final clean and calibration covered off in the post-sale service, so please allow at least 2 weeks delay once the Moog is sold before we can effect a hand-over to the new owner, or shipping it etc.

The Bass Pedals operate on either US110V or EU220V as there is a switchable PSU (button on the back panel), and as the Moog is a UK supplied unit, so comes fitted with a UK 3-Pin type plug to the power cable.
