Korg PS3200

Came into stock: 28th February 2013

Restoration Status: KSR & other RL Music Service Partners now undertaking full restoration.

ETR (estimated time from restoration): Should be ready by August 2013

Remarks: It’s a real privilege to own this wonderful and rare 1970s vintage analogue Korg PS3200 polysynth, and we’re very happy to be able to offer such an amazing instrument for sale.

The PS3200 is a fully polyphonic, 16 memory semi-modular system incorporating divide-down technology driving 2 VCO’s and micro tuning ability. The technical specification aside, this instrument defines the word “ambient” and has the most wonderful warm, rich and charecterful sound that any vintage polysynth can deliver….a truly unique machine.

This PS3200 has very recently been extensively operationally overhauled so is in perfect working condition but KSR will fastidiously go over the whole machine for us as it’s being stripped down and rebuilt. Due to it’s age and wear, we are having the panels re-finished on this which includes re-spraing and re-screen printing etc. In addition, we are commissioning Lamond Design to build a new sold Walnut Cabinet (renewable resourced) for the synth and keyboard. This level of restoration is a significant investment in time and resources but for such a rare and historically important synth it’s worth the effort and expense. Once the restoration is complete this will without doubt be the best condition PS3200 in the world.

We have also purchased a brand new Kenton MIDI retrofit Kit for this PS3200 which will be fitted as part of the overall restoration work, so this instrument is sold with MIDI functionality.

The picture supplied below is from an earlier PS3200 we restored & sold, but we anticipate this next one to be as beautiful as this example.

Guide Price Post-Restoration: Guide price (post-restoration) will be £9390 UK pounds.

Availability: This Korg PS3200 is now SOLD as at 7th October 2013.

Farfisa Polychrome

We are Brokering this Polychrome for, and on behalf of, a long standing UK customer

Came into stock: In Stock and available – 29th April 2013.

Restoration Status: Recently fully serviced (2012) but KSR to service once sold & prior to shipping to new owner.

Remarks: An ultra-rare instrument from the Italian Farfisa company from 1978 – the Polychrome. It’s a combo synth/strings/organ/vocal, and percussive instrument, that is not like anything coming out of USA or Japan at that time (Korg Trident/Arp Quadra etc). There are believed to be only a couple of hundred ever made, so certainly rare.

Fully polyphonic using octave-divider technology, and features an inbuilt analogue Phaser and Ensemble for effects. Particular fame was the chorus section, which many comment as being the most beautiful sounding of all analog synths from these era and reason enough to want to own one.

Another great feature of the keyboard is what Farfisa call the “Touch Brilliance” operation. This provides 3 aftertouch settings to control the Chorus Section and all the tone colours for; Electric Guitar, Brass, Reed and Strings. It’s a nice ‘Touch’ so to speak and offers a level of playable control that really makes this instrument sing.

The keyboard is supplied with its original Farfisa Carry Bag, legs and music stand….very nice!

This particular example is in excellent condition as you can see from the pictures, and was very recently fully overhauled, so in 100% perfect operational condition. We will ask KSR to go over the instrument for a final check prior to shipping to its new owner, once sold/

Guide Price Post-Restoration: £2500 GBP. ***PRICE REDUCTION***

Availability: This Polychrome is now SOLD as at 10th October 2013.

Yamaha CS70M

Came into stock: Due at RL Music late June 2013

Restoration Status: KSR will undertake full restoration once in receipt of instrument from RL Music in early July.

ETR (estimated time from restoration): September 2013

Remarks: We’re excited to be able to get hold of this super condition CS70M as they really are quite magnificent synths for a whole number of reasons. These were proper old-school designed analogue systems made in the early 80s, and it wasn’t long after these came out that the DX7 was introduced, which seems hard to believe really.

The CS70M has for many people been overlooked, or perhaps overshadowed by it’s bigger brother – the CS80, but time is a funny thing and we think this synth is about to become highly sought after.

6 Voice, dual channel (stereo), aftertouch, 30 memories, ring-mod, fully programmable and with a 4 channel polyphonic sequencer…sweet!

Those in the know will already tell you that this is one of the finest analogue polys ever made, and a work of audio art in its own right. It shares much of the same technology at the CS80 and many of the characteristics and tonal qualities as well. The other big ‘Hello’ is also the fact you can get really close to the CS80 sound for a lot less money…this makes it even more appealing.

There are a few demos on YT of these but we like this rather ambient-noodling one from ‘MoreAnalog’ because it demonstrates nicely how the CS70M has the CS80 vibe we are talking about: “Yamaha CS70M – an amazing legend”

Guide Price Post-Restoration: £ – to be confirmed

Availability: This CS70M is now SOLD on deposit, as at 24th June 2013.

Remarks: A great value rack-mount vintage synth emulator, and this example comes with the Minimoog Filter Cartridge. This is an analogue synth by any standards but goes about the technology a different way using the external cartridges to supply the sound character.

A popular late 90s instrument and used a lot in Hip Hop for bass, and overall sound has a aggressive and dirty edge to it that sets it apart. The ATC-1 holds 512 memories and had MIDI plus CV/Gate control inputs and audio-in for some interesting processing effects etc.

Came into stock: Arrived at RL Music in mid-May 2013

Servicing Status: Full service by KSR will commence post-sale.

Remarks: Much has been written on these incredible synthesizers and its understandable when you use them as they really can deliver a thick analogue wall of sound, and are perfect pad and brass sources just for starters.

The Xpander lineage includes the Matrix 6 and 12, and is a fully midi configured, 6 voice Polysynth – an excellent addition to any analogue set-up and has to be heard to be believed. he Xpander offers a deep programmable architecture for those of you into tweaking but can also be very user friendly hands-on preset machine. This means they sit between that digital and analogue medium perfectly and are arguably the best of the hybrid technology of the early to mid 1980’s.

This Oberheim Xpander has come to us from a long standing RL Music customer who is downsizing his synth collection, which is all in fantastic condition. We’re very pleased to be able to offer this wonderful synthesizer as a Brokered deal, and we will be fully servicing it and selling it with a 3 month warranty.

Yamaha DX7

We are Brokering this Mk1 Yamaha DX7 for, and on behalf of, a long standing UK customer

Came into stock: In stock and available – 16th May 2013.

Restoration Status: Recently fully serviced in Q1 2013.

Remarks: The legendary Mk1 DX7 has seen quite a strong rise in popularity in recent years and drifted positively back into peoples conciseness.

The Mk1 is built like a tank, which is a throw back to the old analogue days when synths were made to a very high quality. This is a truly mass-produced instrument by any standards but even after 30 years still feel fresh to the touch, at least this example does. The sound of the DX7 is familiar but surprisingly dynamic and exciting, and knowing this single model changed at least a generation of popular music is actually wonderous.

As you can see from the customer supplied pictures, this DX7 is in super condition and is supplied with its original manual.

This particular example was very recently fully serviced by KSR so in 100% perfect operational condition. Runs US 110V & EU 220V Voltage.

Yamaha DX5

We are Brokering this Yamaha DX5 for, and on behalf of, a long standing UK customer

Came into stock: In stock and available – 16th May 2013.

Restoration Status: Recently fully serviced in Q1 2013.

Remarks: The DX5 packs some serious bi-timbric synthesis power, and even by todays standards is a serious pice of kit, and sounds massive!

Operationally speaking, the DX5 is very close to the mighty DX1 but without the real estate and some performance features, which means it’s affordable for most people. This was Yamaha’s intention when it was released in 1985 as a professional grade instrument.

These models are quite hard to find these days in anything approaching decent condition so when our customer purchased this example he was after something at the top end of the quality scale.

From the customer supplied pictures you can see that this DX5 is in amazing condition, and it’s supplied with two ROM Cartridges.

This particular example was very recently fully serviced by KSR so in 100% perfect operational condition. Runs US 110V & EU 220V Voltage.

Guide Price Post-Restoration: £750 GBP.

Ensoniq VFX-SD

Came into stock:  April 2013

Servicing Status: Currently being serviced by KSR

ETR (estimated time from restoration): May 2013.

Remarks: The evolution of the Ensoniq Synthesizers from the ESQ-1 developed strongly into the VFX, which uses wavetable synthesis – like the PPG et al.

This model was a powerhouse of synth technology and even featured polyphonic aftertouch, inbuilt effects and 21 note polyphonic keyboard. Even by todays standards that’s impressive, although poly AT is exceptional!

Even if you don’t use the fantastic synth for its sounds (and why wouldn’t you?), you still have an excellent MIDI keyboard controller for your soft-synths, and it transmits Poly AT & velocity.

Operates on EU 220V and sold with a 3 month warranty.

Guide Price Servicing: £590 GBP

We reluctantly sold our own ‘in-house’ Elka Synthex back in April last year which we considered to be the best condition Mk3 example we had ever seen. Korg Mini Pops 120

How about some old-school rhythm section for your music projects. This 1970s portable analogue drum machine is punchy and really warm sounding. There are variation options for the 9 patterns to give 32 patterns in all across the 10 fabulous analogue drum sounds.

There is something about real analogue drum machines that delights. Remarks: Another really rare find which is in great condition, and a pretty serious piece of kit from the amazing Yamaha CS series on the 70s.

The SK30 is a 7 voice Polysynth that also featured Organ and String section – a Combo Synth. A feature rich synth of it day, with aftertouch as well for modulation options – it’s Yamaha’s answer to the Moog Opus 3 or Arp Quadra. Much of the technology, design and layout is shared with all the other ‘CS’ series of that time including the CS70M etc. The Polysynth is pretty punchy and the distinctive ‘CS’ resonant filter makes this a unique sounding instrument….al la CS50/60/80.

Yamaha SY-1

Yamaha SY-1

How about owning the first synthesizer model ever made by Yamaha (from 1974) – the SY-1.

A nice & completely original condition super funky (mono) preset synth that sounds very similar to the mighty GX-1 upper manual (3rd tier). Arguably the perfect partner for a CS80 as well, and did you know it was the very first synth used in the film Close Encounters of the Third Kind (before the Arp 2500 in the later sequence)…a bit of trivia for you.

The architecture of the SY-1 is basically GX-1 tech and the distinctive resonant filters offer something quite different from the similar Roland or Korg present synths of the time. Lots of paddle-presets and even aftertouch with some useful real-time contour controls, like pitch attack (like the CS80). Its actually quite a little ballsy (btw – a different word for Phat) synth and very enjoyable to play….and look at.

A nice funky video by Kebu here: YouTube Preview Image

This example is sold with a full 3 months warranty and runs on EU (220V) voltage.
