We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK client.

Service Status:

A full service was carried out by Jim McKenna of Singing Cat Services in May 2023.

www.singingcatservices.co.uk

Remarks:

It’s a rare opportunity these days for us to handle a vintage Minimoog, so not a clone or re-issue but the real deal, and we are very pleased to be able to offer this late production version of vintage Minimoog (serial number 11549).

Background:

Our client purchased this Minimoog new from a music retailer in Carlisle on 28th January 1980 – we have the original sales receipt, although will not publish this as it contains personal data, but it will be provided to the buyer of this Moog. The provenance is therefore perfect for this 43+ year old Minimoog, and the serial number being #11549 places it towards the end the production runs from Moog, so offered the final evolution in terms of the architecture.

Our client had assembled a modest & much valued vintage synth collection over the years, all of which we have the honour for selling for him as he has made the difficult decision to let these instruments pass to new owners. The Minimoog has been cherished, played & enjoyed only ever at home, during his 43 years of ownership.

Servicing:

As mentioned in the introduction, this Minimoog went through a complete professional service by Jim McKenna Singing Cat Services in May 2023, as part of the pre-sale diligence in getting it ready for sale and in top operational condition for the new owner. We have been provided with a service report against the works carried out at Singing Cat Services, so please clock the link below so you can open up the  PDF:

Singing Cat Services Service Report – Minimoog #11549 PDF.

Condition:

You can decide by looking at the pictures below on how to measure this but we’d rate it as a very good all original survivor machine, so no overt restoration to the wood cabinet and all original controls with no modifications. As we are moving towards half a century on the age of many of these vintage Minimoog, the value of them being completely factory stock would have more appeal that highly restored examples.

The cabinet does show a patina and signs of use, but the main control surfaces are all in superb condition and all look very fresh still. There is an insert missing from one of the control knobs on the VCO 3 Waveform,  and some of the other knobs inserts have oxidised a little, but new replacement parts can still be easily purchased on line should you wish to address these minor blemishes. The aluminium chassis and surround are all in great shape, and all show a perfectly aged patina also.

Having said the above about retaining originally, should you prefer to have the wood cabinet restored then please enquire about this as we can get a quotation from Kent at KSR to have this carried out.  The treatments to the cabinet usually require the original varnish and stain to be removed, the wood rubbed down to remove as much of the signs of wear as possible, and then re-stained and waxed to finish. The results are very good, beautiful, but not everybody likes this kind of restoration anymore, so let us know if this is something you would like to consider and we’ll gather a quote.

You may notice from the photos that one of the waveform selector knobs is missing its silver insert, this came out recently and wasn’t available to us at time of photographing the Moog for this sales listing. We do have a new replacement knob for this, so it will be fitted to the Minimoog at point of sale, with no charge of course.

Documents:

Our client had retained all the original documents since he purchased the Minimoog in 1980, so the following documents will be provided with the synth (see picture below):

Minimoog Operation Manual (dated 1978) with also includes schematics and some service notes on how to calibrate it.

Minimoog User Patch-book (dated 1977)

Minimoog Sound Charts Booklet

Studio Sound Magazine article (dated Nov 1972)

Health-Check:

As this Minimoog was recently serviced in May this year, the synth does not need any further attention, but as part of our post-sale process, we will ask Kent Spong at KSR to carry out a health-check on the Moog once the sale has completed.  This will add a couple of weeks to the post-sale timeline.

This Minimoog can run either EU220V or US110V (switchable) and has a UK type plug fitted to the power chord.

Packing & Shipping:

We can ship this Minimoog worldwide, although the packing, shipping & insurance costs are not included in the sale price below, so are subject to quotation.  There may be some short delays in getting the packaging materials produced for shipping as they are custom ordered for the specific dimensions of each instrument.  You are also welcome to collect the Minimoog from us in Reading.

We are happy to discuss your requirements so please email us if you have any questions on the logistics and/or need a quote.

Minimoog #12841

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK client.

Came into stock:

February 2022.

Service Status:

A full service will be carried out once the unit is sold, which will add around 14 days to the post-sale completion.

Remarks:

It’s a rare opportunity for us to handle such an outstanding condition, pro-restored vintage synthesiser, and we are very pleased to be able to offer this late production version of vintage Minimoog (serial number 12841).

Background:

Our client purchased this Minimoog from RL Music in late 2006, and they (clearly) lovingly cared for it at their home since then and used it regularly.

In 2006 this Minimoog went through a complete professional restoration by Kent at KSR, which covered every possible aspect of the instrument, both operationally & cosmetically.  The original cabinet was stripped and re-finished.  As vintage examples go, this is pretty much a perfect Minimoog and, as it has been for our client, a fabulous future investment.

This is a late production version of the world’s most famous synthesizer, so stable and tracks beautifully across the octaves on all three VCOs. There is an informative website dedicated to the Minimoog serial number history and registrations here:

Lords of the Mini

Condition:

You can decide by looking at the pictures below on how to measure this but we’d rate it as excellent, collector-grade. The cosmetic condition of the control surfaces keys and wood cabinet are all outstanding, and this Moog is over 40 years old!

Being an ex-RL Music restored Minimoog, we are proud to see this instrument looking so beautiful and perfectly working, so a testament to the investment made into its preparation 16+ years ago and how that has stood up after nearly another 2 decades hence.

Health-Check & Servicing:

As mentioned above, this Minimoog was restored for us by Kent at KSR in 2006. Although the Minimoog has not been back to the workshop in the last 16 years, it’s actually in perfect working order, but we will have KSR service it, so check the power-conditioning and calibrations, key contacts etc.  There’s not much if anything that will need doing, but the servicing will ensure we are confident that the Moog is 100% before handing it over to the new owner and supporting it with our warranty.

This Minimoog can run either EU220V or US110V (switchable) and has a UK type plug fitted to the power chord.  We don’t have any original paper documents with this but we can supply a copy of the owner’s manual in PDF.  In addition, and for UK buyers who are able to collect from us only, we will supply a flight case in the sale, free of charge.

We are happy to discuss your requirements so please email us if you have any questions on the logistics and/or need a quote.

Sales Price:

Minimoog #3175

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK client.

Came into stock:

October 2021.

Service Status:

Full service by KSR was carried out in late October 2021, so this instrument is ready for sale now.

Remarks:

This vintage Minimoog once formed part of the renowned ‘Turnkey Studio Museum’ under Jonny Arbiter’s ownership of Turkey Music in London.  We have been privileged to have Brokered a number of key vintage synths from this collection and this Minimoog is among the last of the museum instruments left.  The owner (our client) is in fact related to (the late) Jonny Arbiter, so everything we have as provenance is 100% verified.

Upon a quick visual inspection, you will see that this Minimoog was actually signed by Bob Moog, with the date clearly indicated, although we can see that the date was scribed by someone other than Bob, on 23rd March 1998.

As you can see from the pictures we have taken, the overall condition of this earlier production Minimoog (serial number #3175) is exceptionally good, and you can see that it’s not been over-restored, so all the panels are showing the expected signs of age and the wood cabinet looks superb.   Manufacturing date wise, we would estimate this was manufactured around 1974.

The only unfortunate mark against the amazing cosmetic condition is the three indentations on the front wood panel that sits above the keyboard.  We have not attempted any restoration on this area as it would require the wood to be completely rubbed down, which would then lose the Bob Moog signature, so it’s been left as-is so that the new owner can decide what they want to do.  We’ve provided a close-up shot of the dents to the wood for full disclosure.  It might be that the new owner gets a new cabinet made, or just that piece of wood with Bob’s Signature, removed and replaced…and then frame the signature-wood piece perhaps?

This being an early Mini this one delivers beautiful deep and warm sound which is an artefact of its age and the components used in the earlier VCF/VCA PCBs etc.  Looking at the back panel, you can see that there is a full complement of calibration access holes, which tells us that this Minimoog is fitted with a later VCO PCB.  We’ve included a picture of the VCO & VCF PCBs, so you can clearly see the later oscillator board with more modern trim-pots fitted. In reality, this is actually optimal for a player as you get the sound of the early Mini but with the much better VCO stability and tracking capability of the later Minimoog.

Operationally, this Minimoog is 100% perfectly working, having just had a full service carried out on it by Kent at KSR.  The power supply has been fitted with new capacitors to ensure rock-solid power regulation for the Moog, where possible, all the controls have been cleaned, so no crackly pots or switches and the Pratt & Reid key-bed has been re-bushed and all the key contacts cleaned and adjusted as required.

As you might have seen from the pictures, this Minimoog only operates on US110V, so does not have the later model switchable power supply, so you will need a step-down transformer to use it in the UK or EU.  We don’t recommend trying to change out the original power transformer for two reasons; firstly because it’s a big modification to the originality of this 47-year-old historic instrument, and secondly, because why hack a perfectly working vintage Minimoog when a step-down transformer provides a very cheap and simple solution. We can recommend the best type to purchase, so just ask us about that when ordering it. We do have a user manual (in PDF format).  As the instrument is being Brokered through RL Music, it will be sold with a full 3-month warranty and we can ship worldwide.

Packing & Shipping:

We can ship this instrument worldwide, although the packing, shipping & insurance costs are not included in the sale price below, so are subject to quotation.  There may be some short delays in getting the packaging materials produced for shipping as they are custom ordered for the specific dimensions of each instrument.  We are happy to discuss your requirements so please email us if you have any questions on the logistics and/or need a quote.

Minimoog #7767

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our EU client</strong>

Came into stock: December 2020.

Restoration Status: A full service by KSR was been carried out in December, so this instrument is ready for sale now.

Remarks: This vintage Minimoog forms part of a larger collection of vintage synths that we are brokering for our client. The serial number is 7767.

Our client purchased this Minimoog from a private selling in Germany in 2014, and has used it in his home environment since then.  The Minimoog has been fully serviced by KSR in December 2020, so is 100% fully operational. Kent at KSR also attended to the wood cabinet with some light restorative work, to bring back the lustre of the wood.

Cosmetically, this 45 -year-old vintage instrument is in very good condition, with the control surfaces, keys and metalwork all looking in great shape and representative of a Minimoog from this early period.  The wood cabinet is lovely, as you can see from the pictures, but there are one area that has a blemish, on the left side of the front-strip. The aluminium rear-enclosure is missing its ‘Moog’ sticker, and the metal itself does shows signs of it age, but this is normal from others we have seen from this age (production around 1976).

This Minimoog operates on either US110V or EU 220V (switch on the back).  We do have a user manual (in PDF format).  As the instrument is being Brokered through RL Music, it will be sold with a full 3-month warranty and we can ship worldwide.

Note on Demos, and because…Covid:  The Minimoog is currently based in Surrey (UK) with our tech, Kent at KSR.  Although there are strict Covid-19 restrictions in place throughout the UK at present, Kent has very kindly offered for anyone who would like to see and demo the synth before buying it, to demo it at his premises.  Kent is able to set up the synth in a place that meets distancing rules, that’s safe for him and the customer, so if you want to check the synth out then that option is open to you.

Alternately (recommended), Kent can produce short video demo’s to show the working condition of the Moog, but this is by request only.  If we get a single request to do this then we will, of course, upload that to the KSR YouTube channel and probably just post it here in the listing, but Kent’s a very busy guy (good techs always are) so he’s not had the time to proactively do this for us and/or this Minimoog.

Packing & Shipping: We can ship this world-wide, although the packing & shipping cost is not included in the sale price below, and is subject to quotation.  Again, the Covid issues are affecting our packing suppliers, so there may be some short delays in getting materials produced for shipping, although courier companies all seem to be operating normally.  We are happy to discuss your requirements so please email us if you have any questions on the logistics.

Sales Price: £5,000 GBP

Availability: This vintage Minimoog is now SOLD – as of 22nd April 2021.

Note on pictures, again due to Covid: Click on the thumbnail for a higher resolution photo of the actual Minimoog for sale.  Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, Kent has offered to photograph the Moog at his premises in Surrey, so these photos come straight from him using the best photo equipment he has available. It’s our workaround for the Covid issues/restrictions and we’re very grateful to Kent for helping us all out…but he’s like that.

If you require specific pictures not already featured of the instrument then please contact us so we can request that Kent at KSR can accommodate your request, but there may be a short delay in getting this done for us/you.

Minimoog – T29...

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our UK client.

Came into stock: Available from RL Music as at 6th July 2018.

Servicing Status: A full service by KSR has already been carried out (late June 2018), so the Minimoog (serial T2907E) is available for sale now.

Remarks: We’re very pleased to be able to offer this super condition example of the worlds most iconic vintage mono synth…the genuine article!

This Minimoog forms part of a larger collection of vintage synths that we are brokering as part of an Estate clearance. The owner of this Moog had this beautiful synthesizer maintained with no expense spared and did have a modification done to the power-cable output, which you can see from the pictures. The socket/cable does not have an earth.

The Minimoog in an original EU export model from around 1974, hence the serial number being a TxxxxE. It uses the earlier VCO designs and does not have the ‘buffer-board’ fitted. It sounds absolutely beautiful, really thick & creamy as only a true vintage Moog can. KSR has just fully serviced it so it operates perfectly, and tunes/tracks well for its version and age.

Cosmetically, this 44-year-old vintage instrument is in very good condition, with the control surfaces, keys and metalwork all looking in great shape and representative of a Minimoog from this early period. The wood cabinet is in very good condition, as you can see from the pictures, but there are two areas that have damage to them which we need to note as they do not show up particularly well in the photos. There is a hairline split to the case next to the front badge, and a small piece missing near the near section next to the rear badge – we’ve highlighted these cosmetic issues in a picture below…for full disclosure.

Included in the sale (pictured), is a nearly-new Kenton Pro-Solo Mk2 with PSU and required cables to carry CV/Gate/Filter to operate this Moog via MIDI. These are all included in the price, and worth around £200 GBP if purchased new/separately.

We appreciate that there are quite a few varieties of Minimoog on sale around the world right now, but T2097E is a genuine early 1970s Moog that has been very well cared for and is in great condition, plus has just been fully serviced and is sold with a warranty. We feel the sale price below is a very good deal, especially with the Kenton MIDI-to-CV unit included, so hope this historic instrument finds a good home.

This Minimoog operates on EU 220V. We do have a user manual (in PDF format). As the instrument is being Brokered through RL Music, it will be sold with a full 3-month warranty and we can ship worldwide.

Demos are available by appointment only.

Price: £3290 GBP.

Availability: This Minimoog – T2907E is now SOLD, as at 22nd November 2018.

muSonics Minimoog

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our client in the USA.

We are very pleased to be able to offer an early muSonics Minimoog which are highly prized and rare models. These early Minimoog versions differ from the mainstream production versions (post 1973) in that they exclusively used the much fabled ‘RA Moog’ circuitry, metal-etched control panels (with more detailed incremental graphics), Walnut cabinets, squared back panel, clear perspex pitch/mod wheels.

The generally accepted wisdom on actual numbers of the muSonics Minimoogs manufactured suggest there were only around 150 or so ever made. There is an informative website dedicated to the Minimoog serial number history and registrations here:

Lords of the Mini
http://monsite-orange.fr/MiniMoog/page1/index.html

The serial numbers around this era were written with ink on the back sticker. This number has worn off, but by looking at the numbers on a couple of the boards inside it show that this unit is in the higher 128X range which would be correct as it was made in Williamsville, NY.

This actual instrument has just gone through a complete professional cosmetic & operational restoration in the USA, so is sold with a full warranty, but below is a summary of the work carried out by a professional vintage synth restorer.

Notes on the Cosmetic Restoration:
The original walnut cabinet was unfortunately beyond restoration, so a brand new one was commissioned for this Minimoog, This muSonics has a new set of knobs (from the original company that supplied Moog back on the 1970s), all new keys, a re-anodized back panel, new Switchcraft washers & nuts and all of the external black anodized screws have been replaced. The original lamp style cord has been retained.

The restoration has not been extended to include changing the etched metal front-panel work as it was felt that this cosmetic component was key to the ‘look’ of the Minimoog, so this remains original, although does of course show signs of age, but it’s still in very good condition for a 43+ year old instrument.

Notes on the Operational Restoration:
The Moog has been completely disassembled and cleaned, all electrolytic capacitors replaced (all boards/rectifier board, power supply), all switches burnished & cleaned, all potentiometers have been replaced ((including the modulation + pitch controls)) with brand new ones, all trim pots replaced, all edge card connectors re-soldered, has a new set of matched precision octave resistors and both noise generator transistors replaced – everything tightened. the keyboard has been completely rebuilt with new stand-offs, new keys, new key bushings, all pivot points on the keyboard re-lubed, the buss-bars burnished, keyboard leveled, new cable ties & clamps, and the synth has been fully calibrated (power supply, A440, octave switches, oscillators and vcf).

Please Note:
The MuSonics Mini is based in the USA (runs on 110V), so the cost of packing & shipping, and any applicable import duties are not covered in the advertised sales price below. For a quote to ship it to you the please contact Richard at RL Music directly to discuss your requirements etc.

Guide Price: £10,600 GBP.

Availability: This stunning vintage muSonics Minimoog is no longer available for sale now – updated 17th September 2017.

1972 Minimoog

We are Brokering this very early (1972 manufactured) Minimoog for and on behalf of our UK client

Came into stock: Arrived at RL Music in July 2016.

Restoration Status: KSR have already fully undertaken a full service of the Moog in September 2016.

We present you with a 1972 manufactured Minimoog – one of the very first production models under the Moog Music Inc. company, which still used circuitry of the preceding RA Moog designs & technology.

We’ll start by telling you that this Minimoog offers a unique opportunity to access the fabled RA Moog sound, at a price that would be impossible otherwise. RA Moog modules like the 904A are selling for upwards for £3K GBP alone these days, so you will appreciate why we feel that this instrument is a genuine bargain.

The Minimoog itself has been heavily modified over its life, so is not a collector or museum piece by any stretch, but it delivers something very special in sound that all Minimoogs made subsequently just can’t sonically match.

So what is this Minimoog all about?

As all the PCB’s are RA Moog, this Minimoog has the fabled & early designed matched transistor ladder filter. It has its original clear perspex mod-wheel housing. The main control-surface metal facia had been replaced at some time with a later plastic version. The control knobs look original and are all quite worn, as are some of the switches and pots. The cabinet is not the original one, but is well made and in excellent condition, although the ‘Minimoog’ labels that should adorn the front & rear are missing. There are holes drilled into the rear-panel, and there is even an LED modification that indicates when voltages are being transmitted – we have no idea of the purpose of the mod, neither does the owner as he inherited it that way. The keys are worn & discoloured, and the key-bed itself is worn, but working. There is no serial number ID for this Minimoog that we could find, although that is not uncommon for these first Moog Music Inc. production models.

So, there’s a lot that’s been done to this Minimoog which, with today’s eyes, would seem slacriligeus, but this synth has been well used over its 44 year life, and….fully works. This synth would suit anyone wanting access to the best sounding analogue circuits ever made, whilst understanding the synth is not a show piece, but bragging rights for having an RA Moog driven Minimoog is pretty cool we think.

This could be a fantastic restoration opportunity for someone with the time to take it on, and being fundamentally an RA Minimoog, it’s certainly worth it, but we are just Brokering the synth for our client who wants to move it on and not invest into it. The UK owner has had it for over 20 years, and purchased it from another UK owner back in the 90s, but prior to that we have no history on the synth.

We were given the original metal facia (very worn), and (broken) cabinet by the owner, so these will be included in the sale. You could certainly have the facia restored if you wanted, so that’s worth considering if you’re thinking of taking this on as a project rebuild for the future.

KSR have given the Minimoog a full service, so it’s 100% fully working (it sounds amazing) and sold with our standard 3 month warranty.

Price: £2890 GBP.

Availability: This very early Minimoog is now SOLD, as at 29th September 2016.

RA Minimoog

RA Minimoog – Serial Number: 1112

By the end of 1970, the now incorporated R.A. Moog Inc. introduced the Minimoog, manufactured in Trumansburg NY. The first of all the subsequent Model D Minimoogs ever made were called the ‘RA Minimoog’ named so after after Robert (Arthur) Moog’s initials.

http://www.moogmusic.com/legacy/ra-moog-co-trumansburg-factory

We present you with a 1971 manufactured RA Minimoog, now available for sale.

This truly historic instrument has the fabled & early designed matched transistor ladder filter. It has its original clear perspex mod-wheel housing and metal facia. The control knobs look like they have been replaced at some time in the past as they are very clean indeed, too clean for a 45 year old Moog, but that’s not a bad thing in any way. There is a faded old sticker on the rear-panel with the serial number #1112 on.

It has to be one of many peoples life dream to own such an extraordinary instrument, and we are no different. Ordinarily an historic instrument of this rarity and value is kept locked away, but we are delighted to be able to have this available for you to own and appreciate (in every sense of the word).

It’s quite possible that Bob Moog himself had a hand in the assembly of this particular Minimoog and the original all metal facia and perspex wheels just add to the experience in knowing this is the genuine article from the early Moog company in 1971 – the year George Harrison reached number 4 in the UK charts with ‘My Sweet Lord.’

The history of this RA Minimoog #1112 that we have:

The original owner of this instrument can be traced back to Edgar Broughton, who purchased this RA Minimoog from a music store called Rotosound in Shaftsbury Avenue, London, England, in the winter of 1972 (we have letter from Edgar supporting this). At the time of sale, it was said that this actual Moog belonged to Keith Emerson, although there is no documentary proof of that fact, so that may have been a sales tactic by the rep at Rotosound, or maybe even true…who knows!

This RA Minimoog was used on many Edgar Broughton Band albums including; Inside Out, Oora, and most extensively on the Super Chip Album, along with some live performance work etc. The Edgar Broughton Band where a English psychedelic rock group founded in 1968 – more in them can be found here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edgar_Broughton_Band

It is one of Edgar Broughton’s Brothers who has approached RL Music to Broker the RA Minimoog, so we have a direct link of ownership from almost when the RA Minimoog was manufactured – this is pretty rare as most vintage Moog change ownership several times over 45 years.

This RA Minimoog has been used as a workhorse during its long and distinguished life, and we would be the fist to say that this example is properly well used machine, as Bob Moog meant them to be. You can see from the pictures that there are plenty of signs of wear and tear to the control surfaces, keys and cabinet, but KSR have undertaken a complete restoration to bring the presentation back to the best it can be whilst retaining its original character.

The Moog was probably converted to run 220V at some time in its life as we think this would have originally been 110V. All the internal RA Moog PCBs are original, and it is here that this synth truly excels. Although the synth itself had regular use, the operational side is in superb condition, and after some close attention by KSR, works 100% beautifully with it scaling/tracking exceptionally well, with very stable tuning. The sound of this RA Minimoog is divine and really what these are all about, thus proving that if you want the best sounding Moogs, then you’ve got to look way back to the early 1970s to get the real deal.

What did KSR do in terms of restoration?

My trusted Vintage Moog restoration expert, Kent Spong of KSR – London, has undertaken a sympathetic approach to the restoration to ensure it has retained the authentic essence of a 45 year old Moog synthesizer. The Minimoog has been completely rebuilt from scratch: The key-bed has been fully overhauled and re-bushed, deep cleaning to pots and switches, plus a full test and calibration ect. There has of course been much more detailed work then simply described here, but most of the technical work carried out has been to ensure the instrument is reliable and safe to use, but nothing has been replaced that effects the vintage Moog sound.

KSR have very carefully hand-finished the original Rose Wood Cabinet to bring back the character, and waxed finished it to enhance the natural ageing and darkening of the wood (its patina). Without doubt this RA Minimoog look beautifully old and special, it plays perfectly, scaling and tracking through all the footages very nicely thanks to the skill of a master restorer.

There is always more restoration work you can invest into these machines, but the more you start replacing things, then more you ‘dial out’ the history and authenticity, so in the case of the first Minimoogs ever made by the great Bob Moog, we feel less is more.

To conclude:

This is not a pristine condition high-end collector/museum grade example, so can’t attain the prices that would demand, but the owner is appreciative of the ‘used’ condition this RA Minimoog is presented to the market in, so the price below reflects this reality. If you want ‘that RA Moog sound’ and don’t mind a bit of real tangible history in your synths, then this surely has to be the perfect opportunity to own your own RA Minimoog.

This extraordinary instrument is being sold with our enhanced 6 month warranty.

Price: £8990 GBP.

This very late model was one of the last few hundred to be manufactured, around 1981, which makes this a very stable in tuning and tracking – utilising the buffer-board (factory fitted) and late Moog VCOs.

A note on the restoration:

On this particular example, we decided to furnish it with a brand new custom made cabinet from made from an stunningly beautiful (and very expensive) wood called Figured Bubinga, which is renewably sourced from Equatorial Africa.  You can see from the pictures that is has a deep and beautiful character about it and is about the most stunning wood finish on a synth we have ever seen . The cabinet was replaced due to the original having suffered some cosmetic damage which we concluded could not be sufficiently restored….but we’re very glad we did as the results are sublime.

Operationally speaking, from the restoration standpoint, we do not change any electronic components that would compromise the integrity of this Moogs character.  There might be some components that we will have prudently replaced due to age like but these are off-the-shelf components.  The Keyboard is completely stripped and rebuilt with a full set of new bushings and the final calibration and test finishes of the restoration.

The aluminum real panel enclosure is completely original.  We decided not to have the panel re-anodized as it contains some original Moog factory stickers that give this instrument complete authenticity.  Restoration is a about balance, and although the cabinet is not the original brown varnished factory one, we think this example is quite exquisite.  The Minimoog was originally purchased to go into our own private collection but we need space and some funds for other projects coming along.

As you can see, the appearance of this professionally restored instrument is remarkable and and ‘very-high-end collectors quality.’

Considering the age, outstanding condition, and additional care taken in restoring this Minimoog, we are confident that she will see at least another 40 years of faithful operation. Being a Minimoog, this is naturally an excellent investment and an everyday useable music instrument.

This example is sold with a full 3 months warranty and can run either US or EU voltage through the power switch on the rear-panel.

Price: £4990 GBP.

Availability: This Minimoog #12655 is now SOLD as at 26th September 2016.

Moog Minimoog #4364

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our EU client.

Came into stock: Arrived at RL Music 28th October 2015, so is available to demo by appointment.

Restoration Status: KSR to service once sold, and prior to shipping to the new owner.

We are very pleased to be able to offer a stunning pro-restored Minimoog (serial number 4364) manufactured in 1974 utilising the early Oscillator PCB, and has the buffer-board fitted for better scaling accuracy. Other clues to its age are the typical smooth modulation/pitch wheels. These earlier Minimoogs all have a lovely thick and warm character to them – there is something special about owning an early model that become immediately apparent once you start playing it, it’s about the sound…delicious!

The Moog was imported into the EU over a decade ago from California were it was in continual service for most of its life and well maintained. The current owner has lovingly cared for it whilst in his possession, which included the investment into its full restoration 3 years ago.

The overall cosmetic condition is excellent for such an early model (41 years old) although there is some wear as you might expect. These iconic Moog synths are the most beautifully made and conceived electronic music instruments, and for many people, a life long ambition to own. If you’re going to buy a Minimoog then you would want to have one that’s been properly restored, and this example is certainly a worthy contender for anyones wish-list.

In 2012 this Minimoog went through a complete professional restoration which covered every possible aspect of the instrument, both operationally & cosmetically. The original cabinet was retained and re-finished to ensure authenticity, but as examples go, this is pretty much a perfect Minimoog. Our client did send us a considerable library of pictures covering the restoration, which is impressive to say the least, so these will be made available upon request.

This Minimoog can run either 220V or 110V (switchable).

As with all Brokered Sales, the synth will be fully serviced post-sale before it’s sent to its new owner. We do this to ensure that the instrument leaves us in perfect operational condition, and it is backed up by our full warranty to give the new owner complete peace of mind. The servicing is carried out as a priority once the the sale has been completed, and although it will delay shipping/delivery by a short time, we know from experience that customers are happy to wait.

Early Minimoog #1300

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our client in the USA

We are very pleased to be able to offer one of the very first ‘Moog Music’ branded Minimoogs, These very rare early Minimoog versions differ from the mainstream production versions (post 1973) in that they used a lot of the much fabled ‘RA Moog’ circuitry, metal-etched control panels (with more detailed incremental graphics), clear perspex pitch/mod wheels, no rear-Moog label, no external serial numbers printed and no voltage selection like on the later models. This Minimoog has an RA Moog Filter board fitted.

The generally accepted wisdom on actual serial numbers of these first ‘Moog Music’ manufactured Minimoogs suggest there were only around 100 or so ever made in this configuration. These first Moog Music versions are essentially RA/muSoincs Minimoogs internally, so all have a beautiful sound to them. Although there are no externally printed serial numbers, you can normally use the VCO or Filter PCB serial number as the production number, although even they normally differ, so we assume the serial number of this particular Minimoog is between #1300 to 1325 range.

There is an informative website dedicated to the Minimoog serial number history and registrations here:

Lords of the Mini

This actual instrument has just gone through a complete professional cosmetic & operational restoration in the USA, so is sold with a full warranty, but below is a summary of the work carried out by a professional vintage synth restorer.

Notes on the Cosmetic Restoration:
A brand new Walnut cabinet was commissioned to replace the original as it was beyond restoration, and black bottom has also been replaced. The Minimoog has a new set of knobs, all new keys, a re-anodized back panel and all of the external black anodized screws have been replaced. The original lamp style cord has been retained.

Notes on the Operational Restoration:
The Moog has been completely disassembled and cleaned, replaced all power supply capacitors, replaced all other electrolytic capacitors, replaced both power supply calibration trimmers, replaced all oscillator bend, keyboard, external, and mod CV summing resistors, replaced pitch bender controls and calibrated bender, replaced mod wheel control, replaced all panel controls w/PEC 2watt precision potentiometers, cleaned and tightened all PC board chassis edge connectors, removed and soldered all power supply and oscillator card connector flags, replaced internal hardware as needed, and everything calibrated (power supply rails, both VCA sections, A440 reference, filter emphasis and cutoff, oscillators, tune, scale, tracking, and octave switches).

Keyboard completely restored –
Rebuilt / restored key-bed action, installed all new keys, re-lube’d and adjusted all bushings and guides, leveled, spaced, and adjusted all keys, burnished and cleaned all buss bars, burnished and cleaned all spring contacts, replaced all 16 keyboard PCB stand-off mounts.

The cost of the restoration work has exceeded $3000 (around £2400 GBP) alone!

muSonics Minimoog

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our client in the USA

We are very pleased to be able to offer an early muSonics Minimoog (serial #1192) which are highly prized and rare models. These early Minimoog versions differ from the mainstream production versions (post 1973) in that they exclusively used the much fabled ‘RA Moog’ circuitry, metal-etched control panels (with more detailed incremental graphics), Walnut cabinets, squared back panel, clear perspex pitch/mod wheels and no voltage selection like on the later models.

This one is especially rare in that it was made in Trumansburg, NY, rather than Williamsville like most of these. This is Likely because it’s an earlier muSonics and was made while RA Moog was transitioning to Moog muSonics.

The generally accepted wisdom on actual numbers of the muSonics Minimoogs manufactured suggest there were only around 150 or so ever made. There is an informative website dedicated to the Minimoog serial number history and registrations here:

This actual instrument has just gone through a complete professional cosmetic & operational restoration in the USA, so is sold with a full warranty, but below is a summary of the work carried out by a professional vintage synth restorer.

Notes on the Cosmetic Restoration:
The original walnut cabinet and black bottom have been retained, which is really important on such an historic instrument. As such, the Walnut cabinet is over 42 years old, so shows a wonderful aged character, and the professional restoration work has been carried out sympathetically so the original patina remains intact – it’s in beautiful condition as you can see from the pictures below. This muSonics has a new set of knobs (from the original company that supplied them early on), all new keys, a re-anodized back panel, new Switchcraft washers & nuts and all of the external black anodized screws have been replaced. The original lamp style cord has been retained. Part of the paper where the serial number is located is missing, but you can still see the number if you look carefully. Remember, this was before the serial numbers were stamped on these units.

Notes on the Operational Restoration:
The Moog has been completely disassembled and cleaned, all electrolytic capacitors replaced (all boards/rectifier board, power supply), all switches cleaned, all potentiometers have been replaced (except glide and emphasis) with brand new ones, all trim pots replaced, all edge card connectors re-soldered, has a new set of matched precision octave resistors, had an original ‘Moog buffer board’ installed for better tuning (this was done internally so no holes were drilled on this rare piece), replaced heat-sink compound on all transistor pairs, all wiring replaced (very time consuming) with new harness ties (keyboard connectors, mod section, octave switches, external connectors & jacks), replaced noisy headphone amp driver and output transistors, re-soldered PCB solder connections, everything tightened, the keyboard has been completely rebuilt with new stand-offs, new keys, new key bushings, all pivot points on the keyboard re-lubed, the buss-bars burnished, keyboard leveled, and the synth has been fully calibrated. The cost of the restoration work has exceeded £2600 alone!

Came into stock:  2nd April 2014

Servicing Status: Full service by KSR will commence post-sale

When Moog Music produced the Voyager XL they set out to offer the finest contemporary analogue hybrid synth in the world. They achieved something quite beautiful and it’s hard not to want to own by just looking at it..wow!

The Voyager is a great sounding synth and distinctly ‘modern Moog’ in sonic character, and a worthy evolution of the original vintage Minimoog in many ways, offering truly fantastic value for the money.

This monster synth is brimming FULL of enough features and functionality to satisfy any synth fan, and thoughtfully adorned with excellent performance control options to make this a fantastic centre-stage studio CV/Gate/MIDI controller.

This Voyager XL was purchased second-hand last year by it’s current owner and has sat unused in his studio, so he decided to let it go to someone who will make good use of it – as it deserves. The Moog is in excellent condition throughout, as you would expect from an synth only 2 years old.

Running OS version 3.6. It does not come with its original box or user manual, although the manual can be downloaded direct from Moog here:

RA Minimoog

RA Minimoog – Serial Number: 1064

By the end of 1970, the now incorporated R. A. Moog Inc. introduced the Minimoog, manufactured in Trumansburg NY. The first of all the subsequent Model D Minimoogs ever made were called the ‘RA Minimoog’ named so after after Robert Moog’s initials.

http://www.moogmusic.com/legacy/ra-moog-co-trumansburg-factory

We present you with an April 1971 manufactured RA Minimoog, now available for sale.

This truly historic instrument has the fabled and early desined matched transistor filter. It has it’s original clear perspex mod-wheel housing and is completely original having had no modifications since it’s manufacture in April 1971 (date evidenced by Moog engineer test sticker internally).

It has to be one of many peoples life’s dream to own such an extraordinary instrument, and we are no different. Ordinarily an historic instrument of this rarity and value is kept locked away, but we wanted to make this available for you to own and appreciate (in every sense of the word).

It’s quite possible that Bob Moog himself had a hand in the assembly of this particular Minimoog and the original all metal facia just adds to the experience in knowing this is the genuine article from the early Moog company in 1971.

The person we  finally managed to purchase this RA Minimoog from was the second owner. He couldn’t remember who the very first owner was as he bought it from them around 1976, but it’s been in his possession for 37 years. Like many RA Minis, It was used, a player synth, and not stored away which in many ways is a good thing as the synth is still very happily working to this day. It was regularly serviced but never modified in anyway, so it’s completely 100% factory original – meaning: its has all its original PCBs, casings, cabinet, switches, pots, keys etc.

David Van Koevering, Bob Moog’s friend and historic collaborator, is a friend of the previous owner of this Minimoog.  David was interested in the particular history of this RA and had recently commented that only a handful where ever made in this particular configuration. David also mentioned that they used a locally supplied wood to build the cabinet on this RA, which was (very expensive) Rose Wood.

So, what we will do in terms of restoration?

My trusted Vintage Moog restoration expert, Kent Spong of KSR – London, has undertaken a sympathetic approach to the restoration to ensure it has retained the authentic essence of a 42 year old Moog synthesizer. The key-bed has been fully overhauled and re-bushed, deep cleaning to pots and switches, plus a full test and calibration ect. There has of course been much more detailed work operationally speaking but most of the technical work carried out has been to ensure the instrument is reliable and safe to use.

KSR have very carefully hand-finished the original Rose Wood Cabinet to bring back the character, and waxed finished it to enhance the natural aging and darkening of the wood (its patina). Without doubt this RA Minimoog look beautiful and it plays perfectly, scaling and tracking through all the footages very nicely thanks to the skill of a master restorer.

This extraordinary instrument is being sold with our enhanced 6 month warranty. It operates (perhaps obviously) under the US 110v voltage – we do not intend to convert it to EU 220V as that means replacing the transformer. Best left original we think, and it will work quite happily on an external step-down transformer, which we can supply free of charge if required.

Price: £10990 GBP.

Availability: This RA Minimoog is SOLD as at 4th November 2013.

Minimoog #11601

We are Brokering this instrument for and on behalf of our customer

The original Model D Minimoog is still one of the most sought after vintage synths in the world, and this is in spite of the huge numbers of Voyagers around to choose from…ever wonder why?

We have here a late production model, manufactured around 1980/81, which makes this a very stable in tuning and tracking – utilising the buffer-board (factory fitted) and late Moog VCOs…a players synth!

This particular Minimoog has only ever had one owner – the actual customer we are Brokering if for. He purchased it brand new in 1981 from a music store in London and has kept it with him at his home studio since that time. The Moog was very well looked after and needed little in the way of restorative work operationally speaking. It’s very unusual to find a Minimoog from the original owner like this, so we have the full history for this immaculate instrument.

A note on the restoration:

On this particular example, we had the original Moog cabinet re-finished by KSR and the results are always very impressive. The wood cabinet has been stripped, stained and wax finished and shows beautiful character in the grain, as you can see from the library picture below of another late model we restored recently..

Operationally speaking from the restoration standpoint, we do not change any electronic components that would compromise the integrity of the Moogs character. There might be some components that we will have prudently replaced due to age like but these are off-the-shelf components. The Keyboard will be completely stripped and rebuilt with a full set of new bushings, all pots and switches cleaned, and the final calibration and test finishes of the restoration.

The aluminum real panel enclosure is completely original. We decided not to have the panel re-anodized as it’s in good condition, plus we prefer to keep the instrument completely authentic if possible. Restoration is a about balance, and although the cabinet is not the original brown varnished factory one, you can see the fantastic work KSR can do from the picture.

This Minimoog #11601 is sold with a 3 month warranty. It will operate under either 110V or 220V (switchable).

Price: £4130 GBP.

Minimoog #13032

We have here an extremely late production model Minimoog, manufactured in 1981, which makes this one of the last few hundred ever made! This final production model is super stable in tuning and tracking and utilises the factory fitted buffer-board and last production Moog VCOs for the Minimoog.

We would describe this as in exemplary condition, and the high-res pictures we have taken of this stunning example almost do not do it justice.

One of the nice things about this super late model is that all the original Moog stockers are still present on the aluminium anodised back panel, which is also in super original condition.

This Mini, being one of the last few ever made, represents the last production version of the most iconic synthesiser ever made. This is a collectors item in its own right, but is certainly a perfect every-day useable synth and would fit right into a modern studio environment.
