Remarks: A very rare opportunity to own what has to be one of the most impressive looking synths of its era (1980), the mighty Prophet 10 and this example comes with a MIDI retrofit.

We could never have imagined that we would have to say this, but this Prophet 10 is the vintage original model (there’s a clue in the pictures), so not the 2020 Dave Smith re-issue Prophet 5 with extra voicing.

Who wouldn’t have had their mind completely blown away when this came to the market in 1980, a twin keyboard mega-polysynth…just wow!  And, to add the cherry on top, it was a Prophet 5 (CEM based version) with 10 voices, and stackable.  So yes, it’s huge in every respect; footprint and that fabled Prophet sound.

The current owner, our client, has only owned this for a short time, having purchased it in the UK from a specialist vintage keys dealer in 2019 (not us) – it was sold to our client as a  fully serviced unit. KSR has fully health-checked the Prophet 10 for us and it all checks out fine (it was serviced properly), although the original micro-cassette that would have been used to store and recall the poly-sequences on those tiny magnetic tape cartridges, no longer works (very common). 

Cosmetic Appraisal:

Overall, this Prophet 10 is in very good condition but does show some normal signs of use and its age.  We have taken some septic pictures that highlight the most obvious blemishes, but we think it’s a nice example that would make anyone a very proud owner.

This Prophet 10 operates on 240V or US 110V (switchable). It’s sold with a 3-month warranty. We will include an IEC power cable and a copy of the user manual (PDF only).

It must be true that time travel is possible because we have a vintage Pro-one sat here that looks like i’s just come from the Sequential Circuits production line in 

The Pro-One is a superb mono-synth, utilising the fabled Curtis CEM chip technology, like its bigger brother, the Prophet 5. A really great sounding vintage analogue synth and very flexible modulation routing capability and wonderful built-in arpeggio & 40 note sequencer. 

This Pro-One has come to us from our UK client who has owned it since new, having bought it in the early 1980s, so only one owner!  It comes with its original retail packaging and has a pristine copy of the owners manual.  The condition of the Pro-One can only be described as mint.  It’s immaculate, unmarked.

What can we add to the huge body of praise that you can find online for this super little mono-synths, it’s got heart, full of character, punchy, versatile…perfect.

To answer the obligatory question on these models, yes, this is (J-Wire) version, most were.  KSR has just fully serviced the synth, which included a new set of neoprene keyboard bushes, full calibration, re-cap of PSU, deep-clean of all pots, switches etc.  The synth was clean and in top condition, but age still plays its part in needing to maintain these instruments, so most of the servicing was minimal to ensure furniture continuity.  The wood end-cheeks were pristine, so di not need any treatment.

Remarks: We are Brokering this very rare vintage Prophet 5 Rev 2, for and on behalf of our UK client.

This Prophet 5 Rev 2 has been fitted with Kenton MIDI, a JLC Modification to increase the patch storage memory to 120, and the pitch-bend was replaced with a lever.

Our client has only owned the Prophet 5 since 2018, and all the modifications were carried out to the synth before he purchased them, so we don’t have any documentation or history on when these were done, but all the mods work perfectly.

As always, opinions circulate about the good, bad, and differences between the Rev 2 and Rev 3 Prophets but the fact remains that the SSM based Rev 2 simply sounds (a lot) better.  It’s a significantly more rounded and fuller sound (trying to avoid the word fat you’ll notice) and the fabled SSM oscillators and filters work beautifully within this earlier Dave Smith designed synth.

The system architecture does differ quite significantly from the later versions, in particular with the abundant use of the SSM chipset throughout, but that’s the point of the Rev 2 and why it’s the most coveted model of all the Prophet lineage. Reliability is sometimes muted as a reason to avoid them, but regular use and good care is the key to longevity with any vintage analogue hybrid device and we have seen no less or more reliability with the Rev 3 platforms – and we have seen quite a few of both.

What we do know is that this beautiful instrument has been meticulously maintained, and in regular use. KSR commented that this was in very nice condition ‘on the inside,’ which is as important an indicator as the exterior cosmetic condition is. 

This is a fantastic opportunity to buy (arguably) the ‘best Prophet 5 to have,’ and the price has been agreed with our client to keep it as competitive as possible, for a genuine, vintage Rev 2.

Remarks: We are delighted to offer this super condition Prophet 5 Rev 3.2 with a Kenton MIDI retrofit installed. This synth has been in the ownership of our client for at least 20 years, although they told us it was in storage for at least the last 10 years, so they commissioned Kent at KSR to give the Prophet 5 a full overhaul/service etc.

The Kenton MIDI kit works flawlessly and brings the P5 into the DAW environment nicely which keeps the synth in step with all the modern music tech.

The service included full system overhaul (re-capped/calibration etc) and clean and keyboard assembly deep-clean with new bushings. The wood case has been also been refinished by hand. All the potentiometers and micro-switches were cleaned as well so all are smooth to touch and operate. We decided to leave the patches in the Prophet 5 as they are actually really nice, but we can install the factory resent if the buyer of this prefers.

The rear/back panel does show some marks and wear to the factory painted surfaces, so we wouldn’t rate this is a collector grade example, but certainly 8 out of ten, and it looks beautiful where it counts.

This Pro-One has come to us from a UK customer who has owned it since the 1980s, but in recent years it had become unused, so they decided to let it go to someone else who can enjoy using it again.

The synth is in really good original condition, but this is not a collectors machine as it does show some cosmetic blemishes around the mod-wheels and another under the LFO section. We understand that there was some sticky tape left there some years ago and the residue has left some marks the case. We felt this minor cosmetic flaw needs highlighting to any potential new buyer, but the sales price has been agreed with our client to reflect this.

This is an early model (J-Wire), with the PSU mounted to the PCB. KSR has just fully serviced the synth, which included a new set of neoprene keyboard bushes, full calibration, re-cap of PSU, deep-clean of all pots, switches, a full overhaul of the key-bed and also restored the wood end-cheeks (stained & waxed).

The operational condition is flawless, although we will service the synth again prior to handing over to the new owner. The cosmetic condition is pristine and quite remarkable for a 32+ year old instrument, as you can see in the high-res pictures below, so we categorise this as a ‘collector-grade’ instrument. Very rarely do these highly sought after models come up for sale in this condition, so if you have been looking for ‘the perfect Prophet 5’ then this is certainly the one to have.

This particular example was purchased brand new, by the current owner, in 1979 from Rod Argent’s in Denmark Street, London. It has only ever been kept and used in the owners home, and we rate the condition as museum/collector grade – outstanding! It’s extremely rare to have access to buy a instrument of this age and in this condition, plus the provence of a single owner, so this is a fine opportunity to own a piece of music history, and without doubt, and excellent investment looking ahead.

This beautiful Rev 3.0 is completely factory original, so does not have the factory MIDI fitted like on the later 3.3 revision. However, we are able to supply and fit a Kenton MIDI kit if required, although this upgrade cost option is not reflected in the sales price below, so please email us for a quote for supplying & fitting this.

Remarks: RL Music is delighted to present for you this fantastic condition Pro-One from the classic Sequential Circuits family.

The Pro-One is a superb mono-synth, utilising Curtis CEM chip technology like her bigger brother, the Prophet 5. A really great sounding vintage analogue synth and very flexible modulation routing capability and wonderful built in arpeggio & 40 note sequencer.

This Pro-One has come to us from a UK customer who has owned it since the early 1980s, but in recent years it had become unused, so they decided to let it go to someone else who can enjoy using it again. The synth is in fantastic all original condition, and we’re very pleased to be able to offer this wonderful synthesizer as a Brokered sale, and selling it to its new custodian with a 3 month warranty.

The only item of note, for full disclosure, is that one of the 1/4″ plastic jack-sockets on the rear-panel (GATE/CLK IN) is missing some of its housing. The socket works 100%, but this is a cosmetic flaw that needs highlighting to any potential new owner – you can see this socket in the picture below.

We are Brokering this very rare Prophet 5 Rev 2, for and on behalf of our UK client.

This Prophet 5 Rev 2 has been fitted with Kenton Midi, and it has been previously fully pro-restored by James Walker of Synth Repair Services (within the last 3 years).

As always, opinions circulate about the good, bad and differences between the Rev 2 and Rev 3 Prophets but the fact remains that the SSM based Rev 2 simply sounds (a lot) better. Its a significantly more rounded and fuller sound (trying to avoid the word fat you’ll notice) and the fabled SSM oscillators and filters work beautifully within this earlier Dave Smith designed synth.

The system architecture does differ quite significantly to the later versions, in particular with the abundant use of the SSM chipset throughout, but that’s the point of the Rev 2 and why its the most coveted model of all the Prophet lineage. Reliability is sometimes muted as a reason to avoid them, but regular use and good care is the key to longevity with any vintage analogue hybrid device and we have seen no less or more reliability with the Rev 3 platforms – and we have seen quite a few of both. However, we have a twist to the tail here with this example as it’s had a lot of attention paid to it to make it the best it can possibly be, so read on….

What helps this particular Rev 2 in the (no expense spared) attention by the owner to have the synth improved/upgraded, some details of what has been done as follows:

All capacitors have been replaced.
A brand new Power-Supply has been fitted
New trimmers for all VCOs fitted
New resistors for the Auto-Tune circuit fitted
New DAC installed
Lots of Logic chips replaced
Kenton MIDI installed

The new firmware has lots of excellent features, like unison modes, new 2nd LFO, auto-tune improvements, front panel always live etc. Perhaps the perfect Rev 2..!

So, this beautiful instrument has been meticulously maintained, and in regular (home) use since the current owner purchased it in from the USA in 2011. Prior to this, we have no history on the Prophet 5, but it’s fair to say that this example is probably the best we have ever seen, and we’re very excited to be able to Broker it for our client.

We are delighted to offer this immaculate, pro-restored Prophet 600 for sale.

The Prophet 600 was the first commercially available synth to have MIDI as standard from the factory and this later version has 100 patch-memory. The sound is reminiscent of the Prophet 5, being Curtis Chipset based, but features 2 on-board sequencers and an arpeggiator which is really useful & something the P5 lacked.

In recent times there have been some truly excellent upgrade options coming to the market for the P600 and one that we really like is the GliGli-Teensy++. We have supplied and installed the Teensy++ into this P600 and the transformation has to be heard to be believed….it’s simply incredible. In our opinion, this P600 will now easily (sonically) match the Prophet 5, and the filter/resonance is so powerful that it’s now punching in a different synth league altogether.

The P600 is a really excellent way to dial into that classic Prophet sound but much more affordable than it’s bigger brothers (P5,P10 & T8 etc). It has that wonderful vintage analogue warmth and can can kick out some powerful/edgy leads and effects…a great all-rounder but with character & vintage appeal.

A good demo here by Thomas Faurby of purely the P600, and although this is a stock sounding synth, still very nice indeed:

Our P600 has only just been fully professionally restored by KSR so is in 100% operational condition.

Cosmetically it’s in excellent condition and clearly has never been gigged. The synth was purchased from a UK owner and is a very nice example & plays beautifully. The only item of note is that the original end-cheeks had been replaced with some horrible MDF items in the synths past, so we had ‘Lamond Design’ manufacture some beautiful solid Oak replacements, which KSR hand stained and wax finished and look beautiful.

Remarks: We are delighted to offer this good condition Prophet 5 Rev 3.3 that was fully pro-restored in August 2013 but an respected UK synth tech we know well.

These are unique sounding instruments and don’t be fooled in thinking the Prophet 08 is an alternative – it’s really not. There’s a certain punch and warmth that this Curtis chipset based system delivers, and you just have to listen to a-ha, Soft Cell and Genesis etc. to appreciate how influential this synth was to musicians in the 1980s….and still is today.

Did you know that the Prophet 5 can be set up to operate in different temperaments from equal-temprement. The operating system allows you to program microtonal adjustments across the keyboard, and store this in the synth memory locations. This is not something we have tried, but the user manual goes into some depth about how to achieve it.

This particular example has the upgraded memory to hold 120 programs, but does not have the factory MIDI fitted. We are able to supply and fit a Kenton MIDI kit if required although this upgrade cost option is not reflected in the sales price below – please email us for a quote.

The operational condition is excellent, although we will service the synth again prior to handing over to the new owner. The cosmetic condition is good, but there are a couple of blemishes that we have identified in one of high-res pictures below. These blemishes mean the synth cannot be sold as a pristine example, so this is not a collector-grade instrument, but probably more a everyday musicians synth, thats works flawlessly. The Prophet 5 has been priced to reflect it’s overall condition.
